Great location and home is very family friendly for skiers!
We had a great stay here. Kitchen is great as we cook most of our food. Location to the Indianhead resort is so close. We did 3 days of skiing and having laundry in the home was a big help so we did not have to pack so much. This is the second year we have stayed here and it is one of the best locations we have found. Already looking forward to next year!!!
We had a very nice stay. I will say, the place is very cold, I had to turn the heat on and was SO glad I brought warm pajamas! The bed was hard as a rock and they don’t have good pillows so bring your own!! The place is really nicely decorated and has a full kitchen stocked with everything you would need. We were really only here to sleep so the bed and pillows are what is important to me. Otherwise everything was great!
It was wonderful having the full downstairs with bedrooms upstairs. Even with downstairs renters and next door neighbors we slept soundly. We did bring our fans from home because that's what we always sleep listening to. Wakefield is a cute town. I especially recommend Northwoods General Store for ice cream, Nanette's Knits and Gifts for EVERYTHING, and Randall Bakery, also for everything!! This is a great launching spot for the west end of Porcupine Mountains, Black River Harbor Beach, NCT, Copper Peak and endless waterfalls!!

Thanks Carol. I grew up in PA, and took to the U.P. like a duck to water as a result. I am glad
you enjoyed your stay. The area is still up-and-
coming for many vacationers and first time
visitors. They will all be pleasantly surprised!

Very disappointing
-Beds were very old like sleeping on boxspring . Wind came blowing in over headboard had to hang a heavy wool blanket over window . One accessible outlet in kitchen/living room with an extention cord with multiple items plugged in , TV , cable ,VCR , toaster etc . no where to even charge a cell phone.Hot water heater shared with other unit so after sking it took hours to get hot water if other unit was showering at the same time .I talked to owner after 1st night (we were going to move) and they offered 1/2 refund so we stayed . Have not and was told we will not see a refund . Very Very disappointing . I wish someone else had wrote a review for us to read .

Owner's Response: I have owned this property for 10 years. This is the only poor review. This woman and the other renter (i.e. her friend) complained about issues that were untrue from the moment they arrived. They were expecting and demanding refunds immediately. When her husband said he'd be all over VRBO" if they didn't receive a refund, you can imagine my reaction - no refund as their
complaints were both unfounded and contrived. Does anybody think there's no electrical outlets? Why would I have cold air blowing through the units to take my power bills into the stratosphere? These complaints are absurd!
Sincerely,
Joe & Ellie
A little bit rustic, but a great value for money and great proximity to the ski resort for Winter visits. Nice layout and great television setup, but could use some upgrades to the furniture in the TV room. Kitchen was well equipped. Contact with the owner was superb.
Joe was very accommodating and easy to work with. The location was perfect for all the hikes we wanted to take. Randall's bakery in town has the best pasties-highly recommended!
A great place to stay-everything was top notch-great location-desirable amenities-highly recommend to stay here on your next visit to this area. Joe is a great host!! Thank you for this wonderful stay on my visit to Michigan.
My family and I enjoyed a great stay at a location that allowed easy travel to various waterfalls and the Lake Superior! This was our first visit to the UP. The rental, check-in and check out processes were very simple and provided ease for our last minute request. An outdoor firepit would have made this perfect for our summer visit! The inside was very warm, cozy and welcoming after our long days of exploration! We very much enjoyed listening to records and playing board games and cards in the evenings!
Our family party of three (husband, wife and adult daughter) went here for R & R.
The property appears average on the outside, but beautiful on the inside! The natural wood tones, the spaciousness, and the cleanliness lend to a peaceful time. Neighborhood is quiet and the family across the street was quiet, too!
For summer visits, I strongly recommend renters bring fans just in case it is hot and humid. The space is primarly designed for winter visits, meaning there are individual thermostats in each room; marvelous for skiiers and snowmobilers - but for warm weather visitors, there are no ceiling fans and central air conditioning is not an amenity. The temperatures were unseasonably high and the humidity was high, too. We went to Ironwood to purchase fans at Walmart but everyone else did, too, so we could only buy small personal fans.
The kitchen was well stocked and the property owner had been there the day or two ahead of us and provided us with some milk, wine and coffee, just to name a few of the grocery items.
All in all, a good experience. The property owner didn't know we'd be in the high nineties with high humidity. He didn't have control over the weather, but he could add some ceiling fans and/or air conditioning to make it a four season vacation home.
The City of Wakefield was welcoming and Sunday Lake was a treat! We swam in it in the evening. We drove 15 minutes from the property and hiked a bit in the forest to view a collection of waterfalls. About 30 minutes west of the property, our daughter turned off the main highway onto a dirt road and was pleasantly surprised by a brown or black bear running across the road in front of her. That is not something we get to experience in the Chicago metro area - a true treat.
We were there over the Fourth of July and the neighboring town of Bessamer had a (small) parade in the evening followed by a fireworks display. Lots of locals had their own fireworks, too.
Strongly recommend!
We had a great stay. Place was very comfortable, quiet and just right for what we needed. Lots of beautiful waterfalls and places to see within a short distance.

We had a wonderful time in this rental. Plenty of room for 10 people.
It's listed as being able to accommodate 18 people. No way!? We all loved the house! The rooms were spacious, but really only room for 10.
We all love the "hidden treasures" up the road, take a walk and find the Indian & toboggan run, we loved it! (play at your own risk) I could only imagine staying here in the winter would be awesome. But for us, kayaking in lake Sunday and down the river , was real nice.Day trips in every direction made for an exceptional vacation! I would definitely stay here again!.

About the host
Hosted by JOE F. KRACKENFELS
My wife and I reside in Florida. Her parents lived in Ironwood for many years. Thus, we purchased Wakaigan in 2000. The property was updated in 2018. It was remodeled in 2018, and is one of the best rental properties in the area. This year (2018), a new sofa, chair, and TV, sink, dishwasher, walls, and new floor were added with renovations and improvements being made to enhance the property. Most past guests love this unit.
Why they chose this property
I grew up as a child camping in the UP and as I became older my 'boys' learned to ski and snowboard. Especially enjoying Indianhead Resort. The boys also loved the advantage of the other nearby ski places, ie; Blackjack, Powderhorn, Whitecap and small but cute Gogebic College's hill. My husband fell in love with it after visiting one time and bought this place as soon as it was available. We also have a large extended family and having the ability to sleep large groups is a great advantage.
There is so much to do in the area. Many other nearby ski slopes, great snowmobile trails, X-country sking, shopping in little antique and gift stores and great restaurants. The area depends on tourism so the residents are friendly and helpful. It is an awesome place to 'get away from it all' The small town 'feel' is so nice. One of the best things is it's very safe and private. We also love 'snowmobilers' and being on a trail is a huge bonus. We make sure the driveway is plowed extra wide to park the trailers.
What makes this property unique
All we can say is FUN !!!!!!!!
