Lockes Mountain Lodge is a true mountain vacation rental nestled in the stunning San Juan Mountains, overlooking the gorgeous pastures of the James Ranch and Animas River Valley. The lodge sits at an Altitude of 6,800ft Making this the perfect place for those that are not use to higher altitudes. Enjoy the magnificent mountain views in our 6 Person Hot Tub.

No pets, we do have security cameras at the exterior entrances of the home. If we see anyone trying to sneak in a pet you will be immediately asked to leave with no refund.

Great home with AMAZING VIEW and perfect location between the ski resort and Durango!!! The host was great to deal with and very responsive. The home was very clean and completely stocked with anything you may need for the stay. Furnishings were top notch and great beds. We felt very much at home and we will definitely be back when we vacation to Durango.

Gorgeous house, great location

We loved staying here and would come back in a heartbeat. The house is gorgeous, well stocked with everything you need, and very comfortable. The location 15 minutes to downtown Durango is far enough to feel in the woods but close enough for convenience. We liked that the train tracks are within a few hundred feet too, so we could watch the train go by. One hiccup with checkin was rectified promptly, and communication with property management was also prompt and very kind.

Christmas in Durango

A truly magical stay over the Christmas holiday in the Durango Lodge! The lodge is located conveniently close to groceries, restaurants and Downtown Durango all while maintaining picture perfect mountain views. The lodge itself boasts top tier amenities throughout; multiple bedroom/bathroom suites, comfortable beds, cozy yet modern ambiance, clean hot tub, fully stocked kitchen, and more! Shanyn was available for any questions we had, she is the best! We absolutely will stay at the lodge again!

Friends over 30

The property was great for a group friends looking to sleep well (everyone got a bed), relax, and be close to town. It was clean and they left us a little local gift on arrival. The kitchen and outside spaces were modern and allowed us to enjoy both inside and outside living. We really enjoyed seeing the train go by in the mornings. Our only minor feedback would be the coffee pot is beautiful, but difficult to program, and we couldn’t get the hot tub to heat above 98°. We appreciated having three full bathrooms, plus a 1/2 bath, towels for the hot tub, outdoor blankets, 7 beds with comfortable mattresses and pillows. Would definitely love to stay here again.

Perfect Romantic Mountain Getaway for two

My husband and I recently had the pleasure of staying at this remarkable lodge, and we were thoroughly impressed by our experience. From the moment we arrived, we knew we had found a hidden gem that offered the perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and relaxation. First and foremost, the highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the awesome hot tub. The cabin's private hot tub provided the ideal spot for unwinding after a long day of exploring and hiking Hermosa Creek trails with the picturesque surroundings. With its breathtaking views of the mountains and a serene atmosphere, we found ourselves completely immersed in tranquility. Location-wise, the cabin's proximity to town was a major advantage. Located just 15 mins from town it was perfect. We were able to easily venture into town whenever we wanted, whether it was to explore local shops, indulge in delightful dining experiences, or simply take in the vibrant atmosphere. Speaking of dining, the recommendations we received for James Ranch (just across the Highway) and El Moros were spot-on! The home itself exceeded our expectations in every way. The beds were incredibly comfortable, providing us with a restful night's sleep that recharged our energy for the next day's adventures. Furthermore, the cleanliness of the cabin was impeccable. It was evident that the owners took great care in ensuring a pristine home. Even though the home is larger it was perfect for the two of us. We will definitely be back.

Quiet and comfortable

We went to enjoy Durango and ski at Purgatory. The stay was good and Shanyn responded quickly when I had questions or issues. The house was quiet and well equipped with what one would need to enjoy their stay. The hot tub was also nice to have after a day on the slopes. I appreciate the no pet’s policy for allergy reasons and the overall cleanliness of the house was good. Thanks for the enjoyable stay.

Great house to enjoy with family

This was a very clean and nice home with comfortable beds. I really liked the room with 4 twin beds and tv so all the kids could sleep together but have their own bed. The covered patio was nice to have so we could enjoy the outdoors even when it was raining. The owners were very responsive to any concerns that came up.

We loved staying at the Lodge. We came with another couple and our kids. It was great that each bedroom had a king bed and then there was the kids room with their own tv as well which worked great when we wanted some space away from them at the end of the day. They could entertain themselves and all was great. A couple of the showers were a little wonky but they got the job done. They look nice but the shower heads are a little short for me personally. It was nice that there is an option for three different showers when we are all trying to get ready in the morning. The location was awesome and far enough out of the city to feel truly enfolded in nature. We will definitely be back. Beds were comfortable and everything was very clean.

Our New Favorite

This lodge is our new favorite. The decor is stunning and the pictures don’t do it justice for the view. Just WOW. Loved that three of the bedrooms each have king beds. Made it nice for us adults not to have to pull straws for the bigger beds. Then the kids had their own space in the last bedroom with the 4 twin beds. The hot tub was clean and an awesome way to end the day. My husband and I even did morning coffee in the spa and loved it. Each room has its own smart tv which was convenient as well. WiFi kept up and was great. We loved the location of this home. It was in a quiet neighborhood but close to the main highway to hop on and go down to Durango which was about 15 minutes away. The ski hill is about the same distance from the house the opposite direction. Restaurants and groceries are about 5 mins away which was super convenient. We grilled out on the gas grill most nights. Can’t say enough good things. Shanyn was incredibly helpful when we had questions and everything was labeled for easy use. We will be back.

Shan being raised off of an Organic Dairy Farm in the driftless area of Wisconsin and JL as a smalltown boy with big dreams from Minnesota, our love for the outdoors has shaped our lives and livelihood. We purchased our own Ranch in Iowa in 2015 which homed five vacation cabins. We were two kids with no money to our name and only a dream and each other to give us the drive we needed to make owning land work, we made the cabins into a spectacular midwest escape called Decorah High Point Cabins. From there we expanded in and out of other vacation rental markets including Florida, Texas and Colorado. We love the vacation rental space because we know first hand how stressful life can be at times and we strive to give our guests an amazing and tranquil escape.

Why they chose this property

We chose this property because of the low altitude vantage point of 6,800 ft (any higher than 7,500 ft and it starts to mess with our sleep as we are not from the high country, we feel guests will appreciate this as well).

The Lodge has the convenience of being close to everything. Run to PJ's Market for some quick groceries or to James Ranch Market for some specialty items. Close to the Ski Hills as well as close enough to run into Durango for a night out on the town. We are incredibly in love with this Home and hope you are as well.
