About this property
Historic "BREECHES POCKET" Civil W Era Log House /No rentals after DEC. 31 2025
(We are ending with all rentals Dec 31, 2025-just too old!) Nestled in the foothills of Catoctin National Park (home of the Presidential Retreat Camp David), this home is near Gettysburg and other historic locations.
It is not just a cabin in the woods—it is a home that took two years of great carpentry and masonry work.
This historic (circa 1860) log home was relocated and rebuilt, piece by piece, in 2003. A new addition contains a kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and sunroom.
Located on the historic "Saint Elizabeth" (circa 1745) farm property, 1500 feet from our farmhouse, the cabin was remodeled as a luxury, upscale guesthouse, using the finest materials and craftsmanship, including handmade pieces by owner and resident wood-maker, Bill Eyler.
Cheerful and cozy, there is nothing 'rough' about this home. It boasts great views and privacy and is only minutes from food markets, restaurants, and countless activities, from hiking and skiing to ghost tours, wineries, and Civil War monuments.
This is a property for the discriminating traveler who desires the highest quality. Please look for the blue mailboxes and gristmill "wheel" at the entrance to the property.
We attempt to make your stay as comfortable as possible, and you will always find this home in top condition and working order. Please visit with us and give us your thoughts—we know they will be happy ones.
All towels and linens are supplied, and the kitchen is fully stocked.

About the host
Hosted by Bill or Chris

Chris and Bill built this home in 2003 to move into while they renovated their existing farmhouse, a 1794 Moravian brick/stone home in which they have lived for 47 years. This log structure (crib) was to be burned but was rescued by Bill and Chris.
It features 'Perma Chink'--a finish between the logs that is flexible and insulated. The home is airtight and fresh, using original materials whenever possible.
The trim details are period-contemporary and most guests appreciate the effort it took to build such a structure. It also features a new fire Pit.
Please note: We have a three-day minimum stay in the summer season.

Why they chose this property
This home is furnished as an upscale guest house with excellent artwork, comfortable beds and furniture, and a true ambiance of relaxation. The home has things people love-- close to the woods, toys for kids, plenty of parking, different levels of the home to "get away", a firepit, a porch, and a paved parking area. It feels like home. We have a three-day minimum stay in the summer season.
