It's an easy and scenic drive to Summit Haven. While it is tucked away on a wooded hilltop, it is less than 10 minutes off of Route 33. On the way there be sure to take in the beauty of Wildcat Hollow Road, one of the most scenic drives in the region.
Winter Notes: -During the winter months the cabin may be difficult to access due to weather on Summit Lane. It will be plowed and maintained after each winter storm, but during those months an all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended.
The hot tubs are drained and refilled regularly to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all of our guests. During the winter months especially, it can take some time for the water to heat up if the hot tub has been refilled, or if the temperature has been turned down significantly.

The Roost was absolutely perfect for our family weekend getaway. Everything was very clean, well-stocked, and so comfortable. We loved the quiet setting and the beautiful surroundings. Loved the on property trail with our pups!!! Communication with the host was easy and prompt. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay—5 stars!!
House layout was nice allowing for different experiences. Well appointed kitchen and family room, bedrooms as well as expanded loft for additional beds. Game room with many options. Outdoor area ideal. Private property with ability to accommodate dogs with great scenery.
We had a lovely time at the cabin. Everything was very neat and clean. The cabin was easy to get to but felt remote. Just what we were looking for. We hope to stay again.
Great cabin with everything you want for a quiet adult get away while being close to the area attractions. Cute, quaint with a nice deck, hot tub and relaxation!
Great spot and accomodations. There were many thoughtful touches such as a well equipped kitchen, excellent outside spots to relax and a wonderful game room that included foosball, board games and puzzles for all ages. Would definitely go back.
We really loved this space. It was prefect for a group of friends to get together to celebrate, relax and spend some quality time together. Would definitely return!
Great stay. Cabin was clean and roomy enough for our family of 4 adults and dogs. Max was a great host and very responsive to our questions.
The on-premise trail was nice to start out the trip. The beds were very comfortable. It was close to a lot of different trails that we were able to take our dogs on.
Roosting among the trees n hills couldn’t be better! Close to the park activities, but very secluded and quiet. Front porch, back porch, grill, fire ring, indoor games , hot tub make this a most excellent stay with family. We will be back!
The Roost Cabin was wonderful, spacious for 4 adults, 3 kids+ dog. Comfy beds, nice fireplace, great hot tub and play area. Loved exploring the area. Our host was easy to communicate with and provided everything we needed for a very nice stay. We all wished we were staying longer and look forward to coming back!! Thank you!!
The place was super clean. No dishwasher, so we brought paper plates but there were plenty of supplies and towels. Kitchen was well stocked. Kids loved their loft room and everyone thought the beds were comfy. It’s great having a nice little trail nearby, we took it several times. We really enjoyed our staying would love to go back.
This cabin was a dream for our young family! From the quiet wooded setting, the thoughtful details in each beautiful room, to the stocked game room with books and activities for everyone, this house was the perfect place to relax and make special memories with the kids. We can’t wait to come back soon.
Very relaxing and peaceful. Cabin was extremely clean, stocked with everything we needed, and the hot tub was absolutely perfect. Our host reached out to see if there was anything we needed during our stay and had very good communication w me throughout. Highly recommend!
This was an awesome cabin! Beautiful area and cabin! It had everything we needed and bonus points for the wants we didn't know we wanted or needed...LOL! Quiet, serene, and peaceful. No charcoal grill though so we learned how to use a gas grill. Enjoyed by all!
This is definitely a great option in hocking hills. I’ve stayed at many cabins in the area and the Roost ranks right up there in the top 10. Check-in was easy, the place was well stocked, very clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The location was great and it’s definitely off the beaten path. There are several nut trees around the cabin and you will definitely jump out of your skin the first time you hear one hit the roof in the middle of the night, it was actually quite comical after we figured out what it was though. The host was friendly and sent a message to see if we needed anything and checking to see if everything was going ok. The gas grill could use some tlc as the igniter didn’t work but that was nothing a lighter or a match can’t take care of. I’d definitely stay again if the opportunity arises.
The house was just what we wanted for our fall get-away. We all slept well. The decks provided opportunities for us to talk and eat and just enjoy the quiet we were seeking. The only real negative we experienced was having the second bathroom in the basement, two stair flights away from the loft bedrooms. It made it a bit of a challenge when we had to get up in the night. But we made it work and enjoyed our stay. The falling nuts on the metal roof added entertainment.
Our family enjoyed a short get-away for Spring Break here. The cabin was clean. Lots of games, movies and books to keep all entertained. Hot tub was clean. Coffee, cleaning supplies, trash bags, etc all provided. Seasoned firewood also provided for a fee (just like others in town, so not expensive at all).
The only thing that needed a bit of 'help' in the property were some of the lower cabinet shelves were missing supports - any easy fix, not sure if anyone mentioned that to the owners. But all pots/pans, oven, etc were all clean and in usable and working order upon arrival.
Driving to all parks was easy too - most within 15 min drive. Would definitely stay again!
Clean, Comfortable, Quiet & Cozy Cabin in the Woods!
We really enjoyed staying at The Roost! It was absolutely what we needed! The cabin was comfortable, we didn’t want for anything. It was a private oasis with only 3 other rentals on the 65 acre property. We were able to make use of the 1 mile hiking trail to exercise our dogs….yes….our dogs were welcome to stay too!! We made meals, hot tubbed, shot darts, watched dvd’s (we brought our personal favorite trilogy-Lord of the Rings) and slowed down for long morning swings on the front porch while we drank our coffee. It was truly a gift. The hosts were very communicative and helpful, checking in on us to ask if there were things we needed. Their kiddos neatly stacked bundles of wood/fire starters for the fire if we wanted to purchase during our stay, what great young entrepreneurs!! We would definitely LOVE to go back! We might pick the property that had WiFi next time though, so that we can watch the Buckeyes Game! It wasn’t a problem to just go into town though! Very comfy for our party (4 adults & 2 well behaved pups), but would have been great with littles too! Thanks Max and Company!
Charming, peaceful getaway in this nicely cared for little cabin.

About the host
Hosted by Max Rouse
We are Abby and Emma, sisters who grew up in Athens, Ohio, and our husbands, Max and Matt, who are both also Ohio born and raised. We all began dreaming and planning for Summit Haven years ago. All of us have spent lots of time taking in the beauty and peace of the region, and wanted to find a place where not only could we come for a refuge from the daily grind of life, but where we could invite others to do the same.
We are so thrilled to have found this wooded property tucked up in the hills that truly does feel like a haven from all the busyness of life. It’s the perfect place to find peace and solitude in the woods, and we are so happy to be the stewards of this magical place.
We operate and maintain Summit Haven as a family. Of course, that goes beyond just the four of us (and the six boys we have between us). We are so fortunate to have family and friends who have helped, supported, and encouraged us on this journey.
It is our sincere hope that you make special memories with your own friends and family at Summit Haven. We are so excited to share it with you!
