Host cancelled on day of arrival.

There was absolutely zero communication from the host except a note they were cancelling due to maintenance issues on the day we were arriving after three days on the road with teens. Stay was refunded and VRBO was amazing at finding us a place to stay last minute, putting us in a nice hotel that night at their expense and finding us a replacement rental, but the entire experience prior to VRBO stepping in was a nightmare. I can’t say anything about the house. I know the location and my daughter has friends in that neighborhood. The house should be fairly new, and the neighborhood is safe. About 15-20 minutes from beaches in Ventura. 25 minutes from Oxnard beaches, and 40+ minutes from Carpinteria/Santa Barbara beaches, keeping in mind highway 101 between Ventura and Santa Barbara is in a constant state of construction. Lesson learned: Do not book a property unless the host is responsive to inquiries and readily accessible for timely communication.
