About this property

Simply charming cottage

The Knoll Cottage is surrounded by acres of tranquil farmland, with woods and streams. East and west-facing porches overlook uninterrupted pastoral views=. Downstairs includes living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with queen size bed. Upstairs there are two delightful bedrooms under the eaves. One room has twin beds, the other a double.

The cottage is situated on 170 acres of farmland which includes pastures, woodlands, and two ponds. With this additional land, we have added a glamping tent and a replica of a gypsy caravan. All three are secluded from each other.

Growing up, I was privileged to spend time at my families gypsy caravan back in the UK. It was situated in the countryside outside of London, where we lived. The experience of leaving the city to the freedom of the countryside and the enjoyment of nature inspired me to make our land a place of retreat.

We welcome guests and encourage them to explore and walk the trails. To sit at spots along the way and absorb the surroundings. There will be no sounds of traffic, just those of nature. (Water in the brooks, birdsongs, cattle, and sheep). Nighttime brings pitch-black darkness, no ambient light to distract from the wonder of stargazing.

Our wish is that people in need of a break discover our place (the Lee Farm). Many have found us and returned time after time. The cottage, glamping tent, gypsy caravan are listed individually. Booked together, they provide a desirable destination for family gatherings. This is an ideal situation where parents can relax and children are safe to explore.

The three of us stayed here to celebrate a friend's birthday weekend. We all had a wonderful time. The pond you can swim in is amazing. The hostess is super friendly and sweet. Their dogs and pet duck are lovely. The property beautiful and the views are stunning. It was very relaxing and enjoyable. I hope we get to come back again.

Perfect!!

This was my second day here at the cottage. First time was in the fall, and I fell in love with the place had to come back in the summer to see all the garden in bloom. I was a little worried that there was no AC but the nights are cool and there’s always a breeze. I was comfortable the whole time and I was there over the July 4 weekend. Enjoyed exploring the property, we got plenty of walking in finding the whimsical gates and bridges and even a tunnel. It is just so beautiful and peaceful. Perfect place to relax and reset.

Comfortable cottage in tranquil countryside

Our stay in this cottage was perfect. The picturesque setting was amazing and we enjoyed interacting with our bird and cow neighbors. There are lots of trails that we enjoyed exploring on our host’s property. A memorable stay made new friends. The cottage was like Home. I did not want leave everything. Everyone was most accommodating. We had a memorable week here, just relaxing and enjoying the weather and the scenic views. The cottage was incredibly comfortable and homey. The host decorated the dining room and bedroom with fresh flowers from the garden, and she made us homemade zucchini bread, with zucchini from the farm's vegetable garden. The kitchen was well appointed, and when I cooked, I found all the tools I needed. It was quiet and peaceful in the house at night, and the bed was super comfortable for a good night's sleep, The weather was perfect when we were there and we were outside all day, every day. The farm has a lovely hiking trail that takes you through a wooded areas, by ponds and over charming bridges with handrails woven together from tree branches like out of a fairytale. Our dogs loved the fenced yard and fresh air. In the mornings, they would go to the fence to see the cows, and the cows usually wanted to see them too! This is a great place to unplug and just let your mind and body rest. I recommend leaving the porch light off at night and doing some stargazing - it’s magical. The host was very gracious and kind, and responded quickly when we had questions. You won’t go wrong choosing this place for a peaceful getaway.

My only true issues with this place was 1. I think they could dust a little better. There was dog hair all over the side table in the room I was staying in. 2. No wifi. I didn’t realize this until a few days before the trip. Luckily I had enough service to do what I needed to do. BUT the good far outweighed the bad at this property. We came up here for my son’s 5th birthday. It was a very beautiful property and house. It had the most beautiful flowers around the house and property, and a very nice vegetable garden. The trails were kept up with and easy to manage. Beautiful views. Host was very nice and quick to respond, & even brought us cake. And there was a lot to do in surrounding areas as well. This is by far the most peaceful vacation we’ve taken, and we will definitely be back!

It was fabulous. So nice and relaxing to have coffee on the porch and enjoy the cool mornings. To see the many deer walking around the property and coming up the road. Hearing the cows in the fields. The owner has a wonderful personality and is so talented, from cooking, to the fresh cut flowers in the home upon arrival. Seeing her garden and all the beautiful flowers she had planted. It was just a great weekend and we enjoyed it so much. We really wanted to stay. I’ll definitely be going back and spending more time.. the property alone is worth walking through. It’s definitely a paradise.

Owners Brian & Theresa Palmer designers from the UK. We moved to the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains 10 years ago. Knoll cottage is situated across the field from our home and studio. We enjoy walking the hundred acres of pasture and woodland, and our guests are welcome to do the same. We often bike the New River Trail and are happy to let the guests have the use of four bicycles as well as canoe and kayak. We are keen gardeners and raise our own organic vegetables. Weekends are spent mainly outside enjoying the peace and beauty of the surrounding area.
