About the host
Hosted by Gary and Dawn Socola
My grandparents came to the US in 1903 and 1908. After living in Illinois, and Alabama, they moved to New York and purchased our original family farm in November of 1934. My father grew up there and over the years, his family struggled to pay the high property taxes that NY is known for. In order to continue to pay taxes, they would split off a small portion of the farm, build a cabin on it and sell it in order to keep the remainder of the farm going.
I grew up down the road on a farm my parents purchased after being married on February 18th, 1950. Six children were raised on this farm and my brother still lives there to day.
I didn't want the life of a farmer. I love farming and farmers but I saw the long days, 7 days a week my parents worked to support a family of 8. I wanted to travel and see different parts of the US and the world. I headed off to college in Rochester NY and went to school full time and worked a full time night job to pay my tuition. On weekends, I had a 2nd job and working both allowed me to graduate debt free and with a background/work ethic to be an engineer who worked on CAT Scans/MRI's until a work accident left me permanently partially disabled. I was out of work 18 months & told I'd never work again but coming from tough Polish stock, that wasn't an option. So I joined a start up company in Rochester and was employee number 5. We took this company to being in the Rochester Top 100 private companies and also grew it to over 100 employees before it was sold to a public company in 2012.
That's the year (2012) that my lovely wife & I started our own company in Rochester. We began with 12 employees and have 30 now. Getting closer to retirement & not always trusting the stock market, we decided to diversify and invest in the area I grew up. The first thing we did was purchase the cabins which were part of the original family farm and we are now renovating these so you too can enjoy the history and beauty of this area.

Why they chose this property
We are Vrbo Premier Host and our cabins are located on Italy Hill, in the heart of the Finger Lakes, in Yates County NY. Italy Hill is the 33rd highest peak in NYS.
Dawn and I set up our cabins as if we were going to stay there ourselves. We've traveled all over the US, Canada, Europe and South Africa and in those travels we've noted both the good and bad of staying outside your own home. We've taken this experience and tried to make your stay as uneventful as possible (concerning the cabin) so you could remember all of the fun things you did on your vacation.

What makes this property unique
We are 20 minutes from two of the most gorgeous lakes in the whole United States. There are so many outdoor related things to do, that I can't even begin to mention them. Throw in the wineries, distilleries, restaurants, shopping and natural beauty of the area and the Finger Lakes can't be beat.
Why stay in a hotel when you can have a complete house for a few dollars more. Dawn and I grew up in families that had very little. In fact, we didn't take family vacations other than going to FL to see my grand parents, so we wanted to keep the pricing of our cabins low enough that a working man or woman could bring their family and enjoy the area without breaking the bank.
