The cottage has everything, it felt like our hike away from home. The house is very clean, it smells amazing, coffee/tea bar is more than 5 star quality. Our family and friends will continue to rent here every stay during our Edenton visits. Thank you for everything.
What a peaceful area, Lovely garden and walking distance to fishing area. The house had and old home charm! My grandson loved watching the birds and squirrels.
The house is quite comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. Hosted a small family get-together on the first night outdoors on the patio. Loved the large table and the many seating options on the patio. Melody, the host is very responsive. We would definitely stay here again!
House was very unique and well stocked. It has a lot of charm! Perfect for our stay! There was a market at the end of the street that serves AMAZING sandwiches as well - Westover Market!

I’m so glad you enjoyed Westover! Best sandwiches in Edenton. I’m so glad the house worked for you and you enjoyed your weekend. You all looked beautiful!
I could not have found a better location to easily see the sites. The home was perfect! The interior was warm and welcoming. The host cared enough to personally follow up with me to make sure all was well.
While there were some upgrades in the process we were very comfortable and had everything we needed. We were close to the activities and yet were in a very quite neighborhood.
This house was perfect for the family members with small children. The kiddos loved all the toys and enjoyed using them. I wish the house was walkable to downtown where the reunion action was but it was more important to accommodate the little ones. We will use this location again!
Older house (being renovated) w/ a ton of character. Prob the most comfortable bed I've slept on outside of my own house. We enjoyed sitting on the screened porch at night and for morning coffee. A short drive from downtown Edenton (~ 5 min) and an even shorter drive from Old Colony Smokehouse (a must-do) if you time your trip right.
The host hung out in the shed on the property and monitored the coming and going of guests during the stay. My friends felt like they were being watched; she even texting me when food was delivered. We also had a misunderstanding about the fact that I was renting it on behalf of family friends who are missionaries and were coming to my wedding from out of town. The host freaked out that I wasn’t staying there and made me come to the house so she could check my ID 30min before my rehearsal dinner, even threatening my friends with small children that she was going to kick them out if I didn’t arrive by 5pm. I understand her concern, but she took it way too far causing a scene on my wedding weekend. When I booked it I asked if it was ok for me to rent it for them and she said yes. It was just a bizarre experience. If you’re too freaked about who might be staying on your property, you should not have your property listed on VRBO. I’ve never had an issue like this with a host before.

This review is not accurate at all. The renter was not even at the house and is grossly exaggerating the details. The host did not hang out in a shed and monitor anything. The host was in the office on property working and for checkin assistance. A couple arrived at 2:45pm, very confused and with no knowledge of the home or access code asking if this was the correct house his friend had rented for them. Another couple showed up shortly after them again without information on the home. This is highly unusual and the host was concerned since there was no mention on the reservation of who would be staying and that the renter would not be on property. Stating I am renting for my friends for my wedding when the property was reserved did not explain that the renter would not be staying on property. VRBO rules state the the renter needs to be on property. All of the communication before the rental was good and there was mention of needing to share the information with other guests and they would bring a dog. Never did the guest mention she would not be staying at the house or the names of the people coming.
The host called the person renting to get the story straight. The renter did say that she was renting for her friends and she would not be on property. She was staying somewhere else for her wedding. The renter was told she would need to come to the property to check in. The host also explained to the friends that she would let them in the house but the guest would need to come to the home. The friends did offer to leave and come back later but the host felt bad for the kids in the car and let them in them in the home with the promise that the renter would be at the house at 4pm. Later the host received a text from the renter that she would be there at 5:15pm. the host had somewhere to be at could not wait until 5:15 as the host does not stay at the property. The host explained the situation but was becoming more concerned since there were people in the home that were not on the rental agreement. For the safety of everyone involved, the host requested that they leave the house if the person renting the home was not there by 5pm since they were not on the rental reservation. These people could have been anyone and not even with the renters party. The host had no way of knowing and no prior relationship with the renter.
The guest was to be at a rehearsal dinner 5 minutes from the home at 5:30pm so 5pm was very doable for her without making an impact on her wedding plans. The host made every attempt to work it out as quick as possible. Checking ID is an acceptable practice especially when there are red flags. The host also made every attempt to work it out with the friends and they all understood and agreed that the host was not asking anything out of line. The host did apologize for the friends being put in the middle but they said they understood and they would feel the same way.
The host was kind enough to notify that food was being delivered because someone kept ringing the ring doorbell and the host was alerted and thought something was off. The host spoke to the person through the ring doorbell since they were not at the property. The delivery person explained there was cold food that needed refrigeration and they did not want to leave it at the door. The host thought someone should know the food was there and sent a very nice text that the food was there and to notify the people at the house.
The host never caused a scene and didn't cancel the reservation and leave these people with no where to stay. The host left the property at 5pm and did not return to the property until after the check out. Wedding or not, rules must be followed for the safety of both the host and the guests. Guest with Missionaries or children do not get to break rules just because they are getting married. The host did leave the guest a good review and left it as a misunderstanding and not knowing the VRBO rules.
We enjoyed our stay here and for upto 4 occupants (we were two) the spaces worked well once you had worked out the interconnected rooms.
We arrived after dark. It proved impossible to find the entrance until a neighbour came to our help. There is little street lighting and the door used for entry was in a parallel street - not even in the adjacent street. The front door is not used as the main entrance.
The living rooms felt and looked very clean, as did the kitchen and bathrooms. There were piles of lovely clean towels and the bedding/beds were very comfortable.
There was a note left that said that the property renovations were a work-in-progress which might explain some of the niggles, but wasn't in the listing.
The outside of the property felt rather neglected. The chair cushions had been left out in the rain and were dirty and stained. The screened porch was packed full of dirty furniture so was unusable. This was a pity as we had some spare time and the weather was warm, so it would have been ideal.
It would have been useful to have more plates of each size to reduce the use of the dishwasher (or if there were more occupants). The table near the kitchen will only seat four and the main dining room appears to be set for display only. It is not clear where a full house would all sit to eat.
Finally, some of the decorating left paint on the windows and wall paint on tiles and ceiling. This spoiled the otherwise tasteful new decor.
TV & Netflix worked well!

Thanks for staying with us Gil. If you had read the instructions I sent you, you would have know to park behind the home. I send the same instructions to everyone. I’m sorry that finding the door was problematic for you but you would have found it easier if you had followed the checkin instructions.
The house is in a current stage of renovation due to its age. A house built in 1949 always needs something updated or repaired. While things are not prefect, they do impact your stay or your comfort.
Your dates of stay were before our outdoor season so the yard was not at its best. Winter can be hard on a yard. The screen porch furniture was a lot due to storing furniture out of the weather for the winter. I’m glad you had some nice days during your visit but the outside patio was open for use. The cushions do stay out because we never know what the weather will be and the cushions dry fast. We had tried to store them but people wouldn’t read to know where to find them, causing another issue.
Most of our guest love our home as is. I am sorry a few misplaced paint issues spoiled the decor for you. It’s been a work in progress. I wish you could have seen it before we started. You would appreciate it more now.
Please come back to Edenton again and try another home. There are many homes in the area for you to explore. I hope you will find one that is up to your standards.
