The Lodge is just a short walk to Lake Superior's rocky shore where you can swim, paddle in our included kayaks & canoes, or collect rocks. We are also across from another inland lake that is great for swimming. Just 5 minutes from the nearest restaurant and 30 minutes from Pictured Rocks or Marquette's infamous black rocks, this is a great central location in a quiet, rural setting. You can see the Northern lights, eagles, sun and moonrises and shooting stars!
You do not have a direct view of the lake from the cabin, but the property contains 300' of Lake Superior shoreline.
Our resort amenities include a public pavilion, firepit, and shared deck overlooking the lake for Superior views.
I am located at the same property and am available anytime you need me. I like to allow guests to initiate how much interaction they would prefer with me as the host.
We have a resort with 7 rentals and a charter fishing service in a small inlet of Lake Superior known as Shelter Bay.
This property is part of a resort; there are 7 rentals total onsite. We also have a charter fishing service onsite and many boats on the property.

We had such a wonderful stay. The bay is beautiful and you can kayak around the shore and watch bald eagles. A really magical place, I would highly recommend and will probably return.
Super cute, very clean, and very friendly area. They met all of our needs, and responded right away when we had questions which was very appreciated. Highly recommended staying here.
We had a great stay at the Lodge at Kimar’s. The cabin was exactly as pictured. Very clean and had everything that we needed. Sarah was very helpful and answered all our needs. She gave us helpful tips on where to buy groceries and anything else we needed. This made our stay in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan a great experience!
This property was just right for our family. Plenty of space. Quiet. Great location. Easy check-in. Everything about it was relaxing. Highly recommend.
Our host stepped in and saved the day! This place has a friendly community feel. My family came with me on a short weekend visit and I wish we could’ve stayed longer. Thanks again for making our getaway memorable!!

Liked: Cleanliness, communication
The property was well kept and on Lake Superior. Lake Superior could not be seen from the cabin though.
From the booking this resort provided superior communication through multiple avenues - VRBO, Kimar’s Email and through phone And text messaging. Sarah exceeds expectations as a professional Service Concierge.
The facility was sparkling clean upon entry, and double-checked for comfort by Carrie, in just the right timeframe after we settled in.
I encourage you to walk the entire property to explore the cabins, and including the bayshore, the fish-house and Pop’s Shop.
Myself and three friends loved our stay at Kimar's Resort! We rented the 4 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath lodge. The lodge had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The property was fabulous and everyone we encountered was great! We loved watching the sunrise near the pavilion on Lake Superior and we walked across the road to Deer Lake to watch the sunset. Sarah is the best host ever and has a gem of a resort! She was even nice enough to take time to help us look for Yooperlites. I recommend Kimar's Resort and plan to visit again!
The Lodge was very neat and clean but very basic. Sarah was good to deal with. Check in was easy. Having 4 bedrooms was a plus for us. My only negative would be that the listing seemed to me anyway that the Lodge was directly on the water. It is a short walk to the water's edge. It is also a good distance from Munising, almost 20 miles.
Great halfway point between Munising and Marquette.
Cottage (house) is located with in a short distance (125 yards) of Lake Superior. Cottage was clean and had plenty of space for hanging out. Open living room, dinning and kitchen area.
I would recommend eating at Foggy's Bar and Steak house, Chathum Pub (Club sandwich and Fries are awesome) Miner Pasties (Skip the chicken Pasties however at Miner's) Muldoon's Pasties.
Kimar's Resort is located within a short drive to several falls. They have a folder within the room that describes the area and attractions.
The rental was clean, check-in with ease, shower was hot, heat was good, spacious interior, modern, and location was ideal. (Love that it was halfway between Munising and Marquette.) All amenities described were true to the listing.
If you are looking for seclusion and that UP-remote-cabin feel, this is not your spot (I knew this coming in), nor fancy amenities such as fireplaces or hot tubs, but am grateful for its availability on short notice, and the prompt responses/accommodation from the host.
Would rent the cottage again, especially on short notice.
I have really been struggling with what to say for this review. First, the property owners were super friendly and very attentive. The cabin is a big space. Great for several couples or a family. You are right on Lake Superior with several other cabins and there is a great area to view the lake and have a campfire with your neighbors. Across the street is a nice inland lake which is also very beautiful. The downfall of the cabin was that it was very musty smelling which was most likely just due to the many trees and location to the water. I don’t want that to be a negative reflection on the property owners but do want to make others aware. Also, I would recommend providing a broom for renters.
We stayed at the lodge for 2 nights (my husband, father-in-law and myself) while visiting our daughter at NMU. It was a good halfway point between Munising and Marquette, we spent one day at Pictured Rocks and the rest of the trip in Marquette. The lodge was reasonably clean and spacious for what we needed and the price was much less than anything right in Marquette during the peak color season. The only drawback was the lack of consistent Wi-Fi- if this is important to you be advised that it is not good- my daughter did not end up staying with us because she needed to have reliable internet to get homework done over the weekend. This is definitely a “no-frills” type of place which is what we expected.
The description and pictures do not do justice to how nice the home is. The space was very clean and more than we expected. Perfect amount of space for 4-6 people. Best thing is the amenities , beach kayak they offered is awesome . I recommend this place to all my friends . Best Cabin/Lodge I had ever rented . Host Sarah is fantastic.

About the host
Hosted by Sarah Kimar
Our family has owned and operated Kimar's Resort for four generations. It was built by brothers Al and Sonny in the 1940s, then was taken over by Al's son Dave and his wife Chris in the 1960s. Dave and Chris still run the resort today with the assistance of their children, Catherine and Sarah, as well as their grandson, David.
Why they chose this property
We have a unique location in a beautiful bay on Lake Superior. Because the bay faces due east, we can easily see the sunrise each morning and when the moon is full, we see it rise, too. We are directly across from an inland lake, Deer Lake, which is great for swimming, fishing, and watching the sunset.
What makes this property unique
We have an ideal location on Lake Superior. You can even take a charter fishing trip or a sunset boat cruise right from the dock at the resort! Included in your rental is access to our kayaks and canoes that you can take out here in the bay. This is a great community atmosphere and friends and family gather around the campfire nightly to share stories and laughter!
