Thank you for the nice review of our cabin. We're so happy you enjoyed it. And, yes, it is a very kid friendly property. Our children grew up going there, playing board games, building campfires and enjoying running around on the land. We love it and are glad you did too!
Please think of us again if your travels bring you to the Grand Lake area again!

Hi Matthew-
I’m glad you enjoyed the views, however, I’m so sorry you felt the house was dirty. Can you give me specific examples of what was dirty? I was at the house just 2 days before and it was spotless! So, unless someone broke in and used the kitchen or whatever it was that was “dirty”then I have a really hard time with your statement. I would really appreciate a chance to discuss this further and make it right. We value our renters feedback and are very concerned about your experience. Thank you.
The house had everything we needed to be cozy! Beautiful lake views and wildlife everywhere! Our favorite part is how close it was to Rocky Mountain National Park. We knew where to see the female moose each evening and we crossed the Continental divide and found the male moose. Also stopped in at the Stanley motel in Estes Park. Beautiful location!

Thank you for renting our cozy cabin and leaving us a 5 Star Review! We’re so glad you enjoyed it, the views of the lakes, and got to experience the wildlife! We agree, we love being so close to RMNP and being able to drive in so easily to seek out the moose & elk. Although, we often get a moose or two walking right through our 2 acres! Please keep us in mind if your travels bring you to Grand Lake again.
Visited RMNP for a few days and enjoyed our stay. The property is beautiful, peaceful, & close to Grand Lake and the park.
We’d be happy to stay here again should we come back to the area.

This is a wonderful cabin. Very roomy, very clean and well stocked with everything one would need for a home away from home. Just minutes away from shadow mountain and grand lake. Our family enjoyed our stay and would recommended to anyone going to grand lake or Rocky mountain
Lovely property with a large fire pit. Plenty of woods to explore and see some wildlife.
The house itself is older, but charming and clean.
Our family enjoyed the stay. It was wonderful to have our dogs with us. Minutes from Grand Lake and many family friendly hikes.
This property is is such a beautiful location! 5 minutes to downtown Grand Lake and views from the property! The property manager/owner was very easy to get a hold of and extremely friendly/helpful! Definitely will not disappoint!

Love this place! There's a huge deck with a fantastic water view and plenty of room to BBQ and eat and relax, lots of seating. And another little hidden deck for 2 that's very special. There's a large fire pit with seating all around. Beds are comfortable and kitchen has everything you need.
Beautiful lake view from the deck. Awesome fire pit for evening relaxing. Inside is roomy and very comfortable for the entire family. Saw moose, deer, porcupine and fox on and near the property. We hope to come back again.

A little slice of heaven!
We stayed at this beautiful home Labor day weekend of 2013 - we couldn't have asked for a better stay! The home and surrounding yard are perfect for relaxation - the fire pit was a favorite of ours, and the deck offers great views of the lake. Extremely clean, pet friendly, rustic feel with all the comforts of home. We will be back!

We are so glad you guys enjoyed yourself. We agree, Grand Lake and our cabin are a little slice of heaven. And, yes, the fire pit is one of our favorite things about the property as well. We pride ourselves in the up keep and cleanliness of our property, so I'm glad it was to your satisfaction.
Thank you for the last minute rental, I'm happy it worked out and we look forward to your return.
We had a lovely stay at this cabin. It is very private and super peaceful. The view of the lake is spectacular and the kids had a blast playing by the fire pit. Dave and Jennifer were really nice and easy to communicate with. Looking forward to staying here again on our next family vacation! :)

My family and I had a wonderful stay in this cabin over Labor Day weekend!
Jennifer, the owner, was very pleasant and responsive.
The views of the lake and mountains from the windows and balcony are breathtaking and we loved the fire pit! We had a fire every night and watched the gorgeous sunsets from around the fire.
The location of this house is ideal - so close to Rocky Mountain Nat'l. Park, Estes, and Grand Lake with so much so see and do!
Stairs a bit steep, a funky basement shower, but otherwise a great vacation cabin. Fantastic view, two acres of space, roomy and well stocked. Decorations inside way above average, supplied doggie bags and all the light bulbs worked! Renting vacation cabins is expensive these days but this is one where you won't leave feeling you were ripped off.

Thank you, Donna, for taking the time to review our property. We are so happy you had a good time and found our cabin comfortable and enjoyed the two acres and beautiful views. Yes, our stairs are steep and the downstairs shower is funky and small. We hope to re-do that bathroom this next year but it’s difficult to find contractors in the Grand Lake area..
About the host
Hosted by Jennifer Banks
David and Jennifer Banks have owned Hilltop since 2004. Prior to 2019, they co-owned the property with Jennifer’s sister, Susan Fenske and her husband, Lance. Jennifer and Susan wanted a place where they could share lifetime memories together with their families. In the past 22 years, they and their families have made those lasting memories and enjoyed lots of good times.
They love just hanging out and relaxing at the house, hiking, canoeing, and picnicking on the shores of Shadow Mountain Lake. It wouldn't be a family gathering without a well-thought-out weekend of yummy food and meals to prepare. Nothing says family like sitting around the dining room table enjoying good times together! Lance and David relax by minding the property, including thinning the many Lodgepole Pine trees found on the two-acre secluded lot. Chainsaws, Yes! They have built a large fire pit and two new decks (including the most recent “Blue Bird Deck” in 2020, with its breathtaking views of the lakes, the town of Grand Lake and Rocky Mountain National Park).
Lance loves nodding off on warm summer afternoons during the fifth inning of Colorado Rockies baseball games. The kids (grown now and including one grandson) love the laid-back feel of Grand Lake, and love coming up to 'get-away' from the stresses of life.
Family is number one with us, and our mountain home helps us keep that a priority!
Why they chose this property
We've been coming up to Grand Lake for nearly 40 years. David & his family have owned their family cabin since the early 1980s. We love that the area is so close to Rocky Mountain National Park, and also love that Grand Lake doesn't have a chain restaurant or street light. We love the beauty of the lakes immediately adjacent to the mountains. Add that to the charm of the boardwalk village of Grand Lake, and we find our slice of heaven.
What makes this property unique
Fabulous Firepit with lots of log seating & beautiful views!
