Cabin By The River~ 10 minutes from the north entrance to Yellowstone Park



Cabin By the River was built in 1995 and rests on the banks of the Yellowstone River, 10.5 miles north of Gardiner, Montana, the only year around entrance to Yellowstone Park. We have fully recovered from the historic 2022 flood and enjoy full access to Yellowstone Park. The cabin is situated on about 5 acres in the upper Paradise Valley, south of Yankee Jim Canyon and north of Corwin Springs, Montana. We enjoy a country setting with neighbors across grassy fields.

The cabin is decorated in country cabin decor and will sleep five. There is a queen bed in the main floor bedroom and a queen and a single bed in the sleeping loft. The front porch overlooks the river and offers a porch swing, table and chairs and a gas bbq. For rainy days, there are reading materials, games, Dish TV and DVD player with a selection of movies. The small kitchen offers a full size range and refrigerator. Dishes, utensils, coffee maker, crock pot & a brief pantry are provided.

The bathroom is a tub/shower combination. Linens, towels and paper products are provided.

Wifi service is available but caution that we are in a mountainous area and it is sometimes undependable. Your Verizon cell phone works well but is the predominant cell Service in our area.

We have a fire ring down along side the river for marsh mellow roasting or just enjoying.
In the grassy area above the cabin there is a swing set, yard games and tether ball, lots of area to run and play. Fishing in the Yellowstone River from our property can be successful and a great experience in a blue ribbon trout stream.

We are only 10 minutes to Gardiner, the north entrance to Yellowstone. Our guests enjoy coming out of the Park in the evening to the quiet setting of the Cabin By the River. We do have a 4 night minimum.

Cozy and clean cabin with a spectacular view of the Yellowstone River. Convenient access to Yellowstone’s North Gate. Warren greeted us promptly and answered any questions we had about property. We cooked in a few times and the cabin had everything we needed. Definitely plan on returning.

The location made getting in and out of Yellowstone easy — only a 10 or so minute drive. The location by the river and the sound of the river was relaxing. Despite the evening rain each night we played cards on the deck.

This property was a great find and a great experience. It’s located a very reasonable distance from Yellowstone park which was the primary reason for our stay. Even though it’s on property with other homes nearby it felt very secluded. The view of the lake and mountains from the front porch was amazing and peaceful. There were numerous amenities from the grill to oven and fridge, toiletries, and more. I would certainly recommend this to anyone interested and would love to stay again.

The perfect place to stay to visit Yellowstone and avoid the overpriced and limited park lodging. The cabin is so well stocked, comfortable, clean, and right on the river. The porch swing overlooking the river was the best way to finish a long day in the park. Close enough to Gardiner but remote enough to enjoy peace and quiet. The hosts are lovely people. I would definitely stay here again.

The cabin by the river was exactly as shown in the listing. Such a beautiful place right by the river. Everything we needed was in the cabin including bear spray and a cooler which allowed us to take lunch items to Yellowstone daily. The cabin is approximately 10 miles outside of Gardiner. If you enjoy a little seclusion after a long day sightseeing, this is the perfect place. This was one of the most relaxing vacations we have done. I would definitely recommend this cabin to future guests.

The cabin was directly above the river with a very nice view. It was extremely clean and well decorated giving it a cozy feel. Everything needed was in the cabin such as utensils, maps, instructions, ect. the list could go on and on. The hosts were both helpful and extremely friendly. We enjoyed are stay!

Lovely spot!

This was a lovely spot to use as our home base for our Yellowstone visit. The kids loved the bedroom loft and we all loved the front porch overlooking the river! Our hosts were attentive and we found a great restaurant in Gardiner (Wonderland Cafe) that we ate at twice. We will stay here again if we’re ever back in the area!

The cabin was lovely. Right on the river, as advertised, and full of thoughtful touches. A couple things to note: there is no a/c, there is no door on the bedroom, it is not disabled-person or mobility challenged person friendly. We did not need a/c, even on 90 degree days, the cabin is shaded and remains cool. I understand why there is no door since the access to the bathroom is through the bedroom, but some privacy would be nice. There is a slope with loose gravel from the designated parking area to the porch and from the cabin to the river. An improvement would be some landscaped stairs or a rope railing along the path.Overall, if you keep these things in mind, it is a wonderful location, I could have just stayed all day reading a book on the porch swing, watching the river, very very peaceful. We got excellent sleep in the comfortable beds, there were pots/pans/utensils of all kinds, a really nice grill, swings and activities for small kids, etc. Very kind owners on-site as well, available when needed but not intrusive.

I am a Montana native, 2nd generation (my grandparents homesteaded in northern Montana), and Warren has lived in Montana most of his life having grown up in Northern California. We moved to the Gardiner area in 1971. We have 3 grown children and 8 grandchildren, some living in the area. Warren is retired from the National Park Service and I manage the cabin and our larger Chalet. We love living in the mountains but also love to travel. We have been providing lodging for visitors for almost 25 years and have loved meeting wonderful people and sharing our corner of the world. We have a dog (Jack) and 2 house cats who also enjoy our guests.

Why they chose this property

We built our 'Cabin By The River' in 1995. For 10 years we operated it as a bed and breakfast. We are located in a small valley of the upper Yellowstone River. We have about 5 acres on the Yellowstone River. Our Chalet and cabin as well as our home are on this acreage.

What makes this property unique

We love being close to the river and hearing it flow by at night. We are in a country setting with neighbors yet private. Guests enjoy fishing right here and having a fire in the fire ring by the river. The mountain views all around are spectacular. Sitting on the porch in the evening or early morning are beyond description!
