About this property

Mountain hideaway near Wardensville & Capon Bridge

Lucky Holler is a stylish cabin retreat on 6.5 wooded acres in West Virginia, a bit more than 2 hours from DC. A short drive to both Wardensville and Capon Bridge, and perched on a mountain top with gorgeous rivers, trails, and farms close by—the cabin provides easy access to all that WV has to offer!

We have thoughtfully designed the space to immerse guests in relaxation. Our cabin reflects the creative spirit of WV and we provide expert advice to take full advantage of your time here.
The space
The cabin is surrounded on all sides with enormous trees, making the home feel like a private oasis. We aim to keep the landscape around the cabin natural, and there are many native plants that attract pollinators like butterflies, hummingbirds, and insects.

The decor offers guests respite, a chance to truly relax and recharge. The A-frame cabin was expanded for comfort, has wood flooring throughout, and is truly spacious with tall ceilings. The cabin is dotted with pottery, art, and textiles from artisans, combining local West Virginia heirlooms, vintage furniture, and pieces collected during our own travels. Amenities like our upgraded coffee maker, selection of independent magazines and books, record player and record collection, indoor and outdoor speakers, playlist, and inside and outdoor lounge furniture, encourage a slower pace of life. Large windows and a skylight allow abundant natural light in both the living room and dining room (service for 6). Our fully-equipped kitchen and outdoor gas grill offer the option to cook your own meals on site, or just use the oven to heat up frozen pizzas from the Wardensville Garden Market. We provide coffee, sugar, tea, and cooking basics like oil, salt, and pepper. We have an on-site water filtration system with reverse osmosis and water softening so that bottled water is not necessary.

Sip coffee or a glass of wine on the side or back porch—both feature furniture for lounging or stargazing. Venture deeper into the backyard to enjoy our fire pit (there’s firewood on site). Adirondack chairs circle the pit making it a fun spot to gather with friends and family.

For those who need to stay connected, we have high-speed internet and a work space with a monitor in each bedroom that we often use for Zoom calls and uploads/downloads. Our Samsung Smart TV is set up for most streaming services.

The downstairs bedroom has one king-sized bed, outfitted with an Avocado Organic Luxury mattress and luxury bedding. It has direct access to the deck, and an en suite bathroom with tub. The large upstairs loft bedroom has one queen-sized bed, outfitted with a Leesa Hybrid Sapira mattress and luxury bedding. Open the windows and listen to the birds in the morning. There is also an en suite bathroom with a shower. If you would like to bring an air mattress to accommodate 6 people total, please reach out.

We provide quality amenities including plush towels, Public Goods shampoo, conditioner and body wash, as well as natural hair care products.

We are happy to host families. We do not allow guests’ pets, and please note that if you are highly allergic to cats, this property might not be right for you. We professionally clean before each guest arrives, but we do bring our cat out to the cabin on occasion.
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire property and surrounding woods, with a few exceptions. There is a closet and a few cabinets that are locked and for owner use only. The shed in the backyard is not for guest use. The fireplace has not been inspected and is not authorized for use. There is a washer and dryer in the basement that guests are welcome to use, but please do not touch anything else in the basement.

Access to the cabin is via smart lock, and we send an individual code in advance.
Other things to note
We are committed to improving the sustainability of our property over time. We offer EV charging, filtered water, recycling (cardboard, paper, cans), and choose amenities and cleaning products with both social and environmental impact in mind. We ask that you please help us in our conservation efforts by being mindful of heat/air conditioning use and by turning off lights/fans when not in use.

The cabin is accessed via a dirt road, which is well-suited to all types of vehicles during normal weather conditions. However, when there is snow or ice on the ground, you may require AWD.

Our property is in the woods and as part of our commitment to sustainability, we aim to provide native plant habitat for wildlife. Our cabin is shared with many creatures.

Cell phone service can be limited at the cabin, and Wifi calling is recommended.

Please note that hunting is permitted in the nearby state forest, and you may hear distant gunshots. Hunting is not permitted on our property.
