Nestled within the embrace of a property steeped in the legacy of the American Civil War, your guesthouse transports you to a bygone era while providing all the comforts of modern living.

As you step through the threshold, prepare to be transported back in time to 1794, the year this colonial home was built, a testament to the enduring spirit of American craftsmanship. What was once the kitchen and servant's quarters has been tastefully updated to modern amenities.

Your retreat boasts two bedrooms, offering a sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation after a day of exploration. Grab a beverage and head to the covered deck overlooking the courtyard before turning in for the evening. Sink into plush linens and let the whispers of history lull you into a peaceful slumber, as you dream of the tales that echo through the halls of this storied estate.

But the allure of your guesthouse extends far beyond its walls. History enthusiasts will revel in the opportunity to explore this iconic battlefield, where the course of American history was forever altered. Stand in awe as you trace the footsteps of soldiers and generals and gain a newfound appreciation for the sacrifices that shaped our nation. Confederate General John B. Well known abolitionist Thaddeus Stevens visited the home on multiple occasions visiting his friends the Hersh family.

And yet, the charm of New Oxford extends far beyond its historic battlefields. Known as the antique capital of Pennsylvania, this quaint town beckons with its charming streets lined with treasures waiting to be discovered. Take a leisurely stroll and peruse the offerings of the numerous antique shops that dot the landscape, each one offering a glimpse into the past and a chance to uncover hidden gems.

Michelle and Shawn live on the property with their very friendly black lab Roxy. We enjoy traveling, hiking and supporting local small businesses.

Why they chose this property

We love the friendly small town of New Oxford that's close to all of big town amenities.

What makes this property unique

The Barker House as it's known locally has a very long history and especially as it relates to the American Civil War. The home was visited several times by Thaddeus Stevens a well know abolitionist who was very deeply invovled in the passing of the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments. The Confederate General John B. Gordon visited just days before the infamous Battle of Gettysburg.
