About this property

GLAMP SUZANNE: CANVAS CABIN ON PRETTY ADIRONDACK FARM OFFERS PRIVACY AND VIEWS

At the edge of a wildflower meadow with mountain views, this beautifully furnished glamping tent has two queen beds, lamps, Oriental rug and private deck. Each tent has a kitchenette in the Lodge.

There is a sweet new Bath House with separate women's and men's sides. Enjoy wood-fired pizza and our new all natural wood hot tub. Get fresh eggs from our henhouse. 40 acres of meadows, woods, pond, streams and trails. Nightly bonfires, star gazing, a nearby lake and rafting in the Hudson River below. Golf cart service to your tent.

We have four glamping tents, Glamp Richard, Glamp Suzanne, Glamp Bernice and Glamp Thomas which are spaciously set apart for privacy yet an easy walk to the Bath House and the Lodge where each glamping tent has its own kitchenette.

The tents have a “fly” over them so they stay remarkably cool during the day and completely waterproof. At night, zip up the canvas windows and doors, and stay cozy under handmade feather quilts.

The new Bath House has a women’s side with two toilets, a shower and double vanity with glass vessel sinks; ditto for the men’s side. In the nearby Lodge, there is also a lovely new bathroom with an old-fashion claw foot tub where you can enjoy a deep bath with lavender salts. We provide nice towels and soap.

In the Lodge, there are individual kitchenettes for each of our four glamping tents. It has a sink, one burner cooktop, coffee maker, compact refrigerator, dishes, cutting board, glasses, utensils, napkins and basics of salt, pepper, sugar. Bring your own coffee and cream. There are open shelves for you to store your groceries.

Outside are several charcoal grills and a gas grill. We provide charcoal and lighter fluid.

We spent the fall and winter of 2019 building an amazing all natural cedar hot tub. Located on one of the most beautiful spots of our land, our new Japanese wood hot tub is a delightful treat for our guests. Built within a small post and beam temple-like structure with gorgeous views of the mountains beyond and wildflowers below, our spa tub is a wonderful way to relax during your stay. $25 for an hour’s retreat of happiness.

Most nights in the summer, we offer wood fired pizza. Here’s how it works. We make and provide the dough, and guests bring their own toppings. We fire up the wood-fired pizza in the late afternoon. By six, the wood fire has died down and the oven is about 800 degrees. Starting around six o’clock and ending about eight, guests come to the pizza pavilion with their toppings and we help them cook their pizzas. Because the oven is so hot, the pizzas cook in about three minutes. Lots of fun! Oh, most toppings should be sautéed in advance since the cooking time in the oven is so short. (Requested donation of $8 / $5 for children to cover costs of firewood, dough, etc).

At dusk, we get the bonfire going so guests can relax in hand-built Adirondack chairs to watch the fire and the stars. There is no “light pollution” so it is an amazing experience to see thousands of stars, night clouds, moonscapes.

Enjoy getting your breakfast eggs from the henhouse. Our flock of chickens and ducks are fun to watch as they free range all over the property. The ducklings enjoy it when there is fresh water run into their little swimming pool --- they are so joyous when they’re in water. The ducks are sweet but shy away from people (oh no! humans!). Unlike the chickens that wander all day and come back together to the coop only to sleep, the ducks are co-dependent and stick together all the time; if one duck is separated, they all quack until they get back together. So yes, country life can be noisy with the chickens cackling and the ducks quacking!

And of course there is Sammy Dog, a lab/shepherd mix, who bounds around the property, visiting all our guests, laying down on the porch and steps waiting for people to come home. Be careful coming down the driveway because he sometimes leaps unexpectedly in front of cars all goofy and happy. He can come in and even sleep over if you want (just send us a text message so we know where he is).

Our cabins are set up for visiting dogs, but unfortunately we cannot host dogs in the tents.

The lake is three miles down the winding road …13th Lake it is called and it is just beautiful. Totally natural and quiet with no sign of civilization on its shores. The Hudson River is at the bottom of our mountain; clear beautiful water; you go tubing or rafting with the various rafting companies located right nearby.

The town of North Creek is five miles away off the main Route 28 road but it’s easy to miss so look for the 3 or 4 signs that mark the entrance to “town”. North Creek is a scenic little town with some great restaurants, a grocery store, liquor store, some shopping places and a scenic train called the Saratoga/North Creek Railroad which takes folks in antique train cars along the Hudson River.

Another great experience is nearby Garnet Hill Lodge, an historic lodge offering lunches and dinners … beautiful property, amazing views, great food. It’s located right up the road in North River. They rent mountain bikes and have all kinds of walking trails.

Lots and lots more to do … check our online Guide Book for more suggestions!

So .... Enjoy amazing mountain day views and glorious stargazing by night ... this might be the most special vacation you’ve ever had! Quiet and tranquil … safely and privately located at the edge of our Hobby Farm where you can enjoy a beautiful tent, ducks and chickens, and sweet lab dog.

If you're looking for additional space, we have other cottages on the property as well ... Authentic Adirondack Bird Camp which has two bedrooms, Farmstand Guest House. Camp Hudsonview and our newest Camp TwoSome (each with one bedroom), all of which are listed on this site.

It was a nice remote location for glamping. Enjoyed the campfire and stone fired pizza, except for my wife and daughter because they were gluten-free and couldn't partake of it. Enjoyed the farm fresh eggs and the separate cooking area in the lodge. Enjoyed the surroundings. Got a taste of fall colors. I think the whole experience would've been much more enjoyable had it not been for the cold and blustery winds. Enjoyed the other people there as well. We weren't prepared for the cold as we were on the tail end of a 10-day vacation coming from Maine where it was much warmer. It is interesting how the VRBO website says "breakfast included" but that only means that if farm fresh eggs are available and we can cook them ourselves...which we did. We would come again if the drive wasn't so far from us in Michigan.

Glamping in the Adirondacks
We had a great week at the Hobby Farm. The beds in the tents are cozy and comfortable, the bath house is modern and very clean. We appreciated our dedicated kitchen which was well stocked and very clean. Make sure you have some wood fired pizza made by the owner. Location has great views. Her new cabins are beautiful with awesome views. Take a trip on the Revolution Rails, lots of fun. We will return.

Just delightful
My daughter and I stayed in Glamp Suzanne while hiking in the area. I can not over-state how charming and fun Leslie's place is. She is so creative with her landscaping and decor, the offerings from wood fired pizza (YUM!) to the herb shop, bonfire, and the pets were just awesome too. Ducks and chickens fun, cat super lovable and Sammy the dog. Well Sammy is a fine companion as well as quiet host. We had so much fun. Bathrooms/showers were clean and up to date. Kitchenettes were all we needed. Bravo Leslie, you've created quite a little niche up there in North River!

Great Place
The place is exactly as advertised and had a campground feel. The temp dropped to 49 degrees at night but the down blankets they provided kept us surprisingly warm. We didn’t even have to turn on the electric heater that’s available in the tent. There are kitchenettes and beautiful bathrooms. We would definitely stay there again.

wonderful property, great host
We are two active seniors who really enjoyed our stay at the hobby farm. Leslie is a host supreme, who responded to any texts within minutes. The setup for the glamping tents is fantastic. Our tent was mounted on a solid deck foundation, with a front and back "porch", both with sitting chairs. The back porch even had window boxes with petunias! We had a night of heavy rain, and the tent did not leak. We stayed very cozy. The kitchen setup for each tent is right=sized with everything you need, but things are kept simple. We enjoyed the firepit at night, and her homemade wood-fired pizza was delicious! The nearby town of North Creek was just delightful, and features the most amazing mural of ADK activities. Truly one of the best pieces of community art I have ever seen. Plenty of eateries and shopping in the town. We also did the Revolution Cycle on train track thing. It was so beautiful, very easy to do, and we had a ball. I recommend the North route that goes over the Hudson on a trestle bridge. We visited the cabins that Leslie built on the other side of her property, and they look fantastic. We can't wait to return and try them out!

Horrible hosts
This place was a joke. The property owner was horrible. The service was the worst I’ve ever had. We were the first ones to order pizza and the owner gave us 2 out of 3 pizzas and said I’m going to make everyone else’s and bring you your 3rd when done with everyone else .... (who does that, very rude) We booked the spa for 10pm, I paid $15 more for the gulf car ride , we had to knock on their house door at 10:05pm just for her daughter to tell us “it was too muddy for the car, we can walk the hike in the dark or drive our own car (meanwhile we were clearly intoxicated, and they still wanted us to drive) gave us a map with x’s and Squares all over and told us to find some random road, that wasn’t even their . They never told us before hand we weren’t going to be able to get a ride. The other campers were rude . Will NEVER go again. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME !

No Masks
When we checked in we were told “masks are optional” and that must have been told to everybody because nobody wore masks in communal spaces except us. Not in the kitchen area, not in the bathroom building. It was questionable whether the public spaces were disinfected/cleaned at all. The owner didn’t even wear a mask while cooking. We loved hanging with the chickens, ducks & Sammy the dog but if you are worried about Covid, this is not the place for you.

Amazing experience
We had such a wonderful stay . The place was exactly as advertised, beautiful, comfortable, clean . Was a cool night but we stayed warm in our beds and comforters . The owner was great . She made us all fresh pizza from her stone oven and was very accommodating. We fell in love with Sammy the dog , he spent the whole evening with us at the lodge as we had our girls night and went for walks with us . Even the chickens were super friendly and running to greet us . The kitchen was well equipped, the bathroom and shower cozy and clean . Overall it was fabulous and definitely coming back , next time to try out the spa as well .

Glamp Suzanne
We LOVE Glamp Suzanne! Cozy feather quilts in wonderfully roomy tents, homemade pizza from Leslie's brick oven, meeting fellow glampers and sharing stories in front of the bonfire on chilly nights under stary skies, with a beer or glass of wine, autumn colors, making coffee and breakfast in the hand- built lodge, and faithful Sammy dog, chickens and ducks. Acres of beautiful property for walking. Leslie and her daughter are the most gracious hosts. Never a shortage of things to do- hiking, swimming, rafting, walking along Thirteeth Lake or The Hudson River, or just plain relaxing. Perfect for families or couples. Don't miss this hidden gem! I've been here twice- once earlier this summer as a base camp for motorcycling through the Adirondacks, and again by myself for a much needed unwinding. Both stays were wonderful; I've always felt right at home. Have stayed in both Richard & Suzanne- both very clean and comfortable.

Host profile image
Through lucky circumstances and financial help from my family, I own a precious 40 acres atop a mountain in the Adirondacks with a small cluster of buildings including my great-grandparents’ century-old Bird Camp, four glamping tents and several cabins I have built in the last few years.

From early spring until the leaves change color in the fall, I have the honor to host vacationing guests who come to the Adirondack Mountains from all over the world, and who leave with generous notes of thanks and lovely reviews for having had the opportunity to live as I do with my children now, and as my grandparents and great-parents once did here. We treasure our farm-like setting reminiscent of an 1800’s farm with pleasant meadows, beautiful mountain views and brilliant star-filled nights, and I am grateful to my family for helping us preserve this special place.
A few years ago, I bought 40 acres of beautiful land abutting the original property. Gorgeous mountain views and open meadows were reclaimed by clearing trees, and the historic Shields Road which accesses this portion of the land has been rebuilt. Originally I intended to build single family homes for sale, but the evolved to retaining all the land the building, as finances permit, sweet rental cabins (Camp HudsonView and Camp TwoSome), walking trails and this year, a fabulous Japanese temple with a cedar hot tub.

I am grateful that I’ve had fascinating professional and personal experience, and that I may live in an insanely beautiful wild place. I have a small business offers interesting challenges and rewards. I spend the winter building rustic furniture for my rentals, plowing snow with my four wheeler and working as weather permits on the properties.
And through the warm months, I have the opportunity to meet lovely people from all over the world who treasure what we have here. Our guests bring life, laughter, children and love to our quiet mountain retreat.

Forward!

Leslie Clement

Why they chose this property

My family’s connection with the Adirondacks goes back to 1905 when my great-aunt Edie Bird --- then a teenager living in Port Washington, Long Island --- became sick with TB. At that time, the Adirondack wilderness had acquired a reputation for its health giving properties, and people were convinced that the fresh air, isolation, and plenty of rest and wholesome food would help people infected with TB. So my great-grandparents sent their daughter Edie here to North River where she “took the cure” by boarding at the nearby Cedarwood Farm where she sat outside all winter with the other boarders, bundled under quilts on the porch, and in summer walking the roads and wildflower meadows. Happily, my great-aunt Edie Bird recovered from the dreaded TB (the owners of the farm were not so lucky -- they contracted and died of TB themselves).

In 1910, my great-grandparents, Tim and Ida Bird, bought eight acres of beautiful property on “Christian Hill” (as it was once known) in North River. (I have since then bought an additional abutting 40 acres). They then built a small “shingle style” camp in the rustic Adirondack style which we call Bird Camp --- siting the small rustic dwelling to capitalize on dramatic southward views across the Gore Mountain range and the Hudson River two miles below. They brought up by train beautiful leaded glass windows and other building materials from a demolished Guggenheim estate on Long Island. Building materials were locally acquired --- cedar shingles, stone, milled lumber nearby North Creek where intensive amounts of logging was being done. Traditionally, the women and children stayed all summer while the men traveled back and forth. Life was leisurely. Visiting, and having visitors, was an important part of life. Cooking was done with a hand pump and wood cook stove. It was a four day long trip from Port Washington, Long Island.

Today we are delighted to share this special property today with visiting guests from all over the world.

What makes this property unique

The Adirondack Mountains are a spectacular range in upstate New York that showcases the breathtaking beauty of nature. There is a beautiful lake three miles down the winding road called 13th Lake which is completely natural and quiet with no sign of civilization on its shores.

Our guests enjoy spectacular views and acres of land that consists of pristine woods, meadows, vistas, and a spring-fed pond. The Hudson River is just down the hill, and the town of North Creek is five miles away. There is a historic cemetery next door, and Gore Mountain Ski Center and Garnet Hill are only a few miles away. Albany is only an hour-and-a-half away, and guests can reach Montreal within two hours. They can even take a short four-hour road trip to New York City. The town of North Creek is five miles away off the main Route 28 road. North Creek is a scenic little town with some great restaurants, a grocery store, a liquor store, some shopping places, and a scenic train called the Saratoga/North Creek Railroad, which takes folks in antique train cars along the Hudson River. Gore Mountain Ski Center is off Route 28 in North Creek.
