Comfortable, quiet, north end of Westport Island near Wiscasset - "The Prettiest Village in Maine". Enjoy the day's first cup of coffee from the raised deck while watching the sun rise over the Sheepscott River. Listen to the whispering pines, lobster boats tending traps and the call of seabirds. Relax on the deck just outside your front door or down by the river on the spacious 10' x 20' float. Enjoy a walk to the nearby lobster coop and carry back dinner. The island has three preserves for hiking and picnicking. You're just a few minutes from coastal Route 1 which makes this home a great spot to launch a day trip from Portland to Camden. Experience the Sheepscot River from the dock (FYI - float sits on the riverbed at each of two daily dead low tides for about 1.5 hours per low tide). The hillside leading to the dock is steep, but steps are broad with a bench on a platform half way up/down. 12 large stone steps lead to the house from the driveway parking area with space for 3 - 4 cars. Settle in and enjoy the amenities: wifi, smart tv, large-capacity washer and dryer, fully-stocked newly remodeled kitchen, linens, hair dryer, iron and board, alarm clock, showers in both bathrooms - one is newly remodeled, dishwasher, microwave and toaster oven, gas grill and coffee maker. The master bedroom has its own patio door that leads out to a secluded, seashore garden with private deck. A spacious loft sleeps two with reading area. Another first-floor bedroom also sleeps two. Enjoy river views while you dine - rain or shine - from the deck or dining room. Keep an eye out for deer, wild turkey, fox, bald and golden eagles, osprey and seals. A juvenile humpback whale was sighted in 2023! Watch the dramatic nine foot tides come and go. Westport Isle of View has much to offer. Come see for yourself. Please note: security cameras are positioned to provide surveillance views of driveway approach and waterside main deck/living room door. These are only activated before guests arrive and after check out.

This home was perfect for our one month stay. It is located close to so many wonderful areas - Boothbay Harbor being our favorite spot. The location made traveling up and down the coast of Maine very easy. On the other hand, we loved relaxing on the deck overlooking the beautiful scenery of the Sheepscot River, watching the lobster boats, ospreys, comorants and a very inquisitive owl staring at us from the tree tops - almost eye level! We also appreciated the well-stocked kitchen, including the lobster pot of which we made good use. The home is very comfortable and inviting. We can't wait to go back!
This wonderful home is half cabin/half summer home, possessing both charm and modern amenities. It is located on a very quiet river, perfect for relaxation, yet an hour away from Portland and Rockland/Camden. The best part of the stay are the owners Faith and Tim who are always available only when you need them.
Everything was great! Not a place for little children due to the steep staircase down to the dock! I used it for daily exercise😂! Otherwise great for a central place to go on day trips from.
We stayed for month in August/September and had a fantastic time, as we did in 2024. The home has a beautiful view overlooking the Sheepscot River. We often bought lobster at Simmons in Damriscotta, cooked them at home, and had lobster rolls out on the deck for dinner. The home and is centrally located to Wiscassett, Boothbay, Newcastle, Damriscotta, Bath, and Brunswick. Freeport, Portland, Rockland, and Cambden are an hour or less away. There are tons of great walking trails around, lighthouses (Owls Head, Booth Bay, Portland Head and many others), activities (Maine Maritime Museum, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, visiting the state capitol) and restaurants (Five Islands Lobster, Wild Oats Cafe and Bakery, Taste of Maine, and many others). Great place to stay for a week or a month. Thanks for everything Tim and Faith. Hope to be back!
What a wonderful vacation location! Peaceful setting with water views from a gorgeous deck and many rooms throughout the house. Immaculate with a brand new kitchen, and all of the comforts of home! Great to relax on the deck or on the dock but also fantastic location for visiting many of Maine’s attractions and towns, such as Wiscasset, Portland, Damariscotta, Boothbay Harbor, and Freeport. Added bonus was the lobster co-op just a five minute walk away, where we were able to purchase lobsters from the boat to be prepared for our table! Thank you, Tim and Faith. Looking forward to returning in the future!
My husband and I had an amazing stay at Tim and Faiths lovely cottage on the Sheepscot river. We had the best weather and enjoyed coffee on the deck and lazy days on the dock, just sitting and watching boats go by. We were even lucky enough to see a Whale on our last day! Which is definitely not a normal occurrence. Note that the stairs are steep too get down to the dock, it’s a mini little workout :). The house has everything you need to cook dinner, which we did most nights.
The area is perfect for day trips to Camden, boothbay, Monehegan Island (highly recommend if you like to hike), and quick trips for groceries in Wiscasset. Note in the off season lots of places are closed Mon-Wed. and places close early. Maine tasting room was a lovely find, Odd Alewives in Waldoboro, and Pemiquid seafood in New Harbor has a great lobster roll (it’s about 20 -30 mins). Thank you for letting us stay at your perfectly situated cottage!
My wife and I stayed in Tim and Faith's home for the month of July, 2024, as a present to each other for our 25th anniversary. The home was very clean, comfortable, well-provisioned for cooking. We felt right at home. It was also conveniently located to several nearby towns (Wiscassett, Bath, Brunswick, Newcastle, Damariscotta, and Boothbay). We enjoyed many nearby activities and attractions, including Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Maine Maritime Museum, Capitol Park in Augusta, walking up and down the road from the house to the tip of Westport Island, walking on many other nearby trails on conserved properties, bargain hunting at Renys, perusing used books at Skidompha Secondhand Bookshop. We also enjoyed eating out at Taste of Maine (seafood and bread pudding), Montsweag (baked haddock), Moody's Diner (the best blueberry pancakes anywhere). Cooks Landing (Pizza and live music), and Ginger Mousse Bakery (anything they make). However, the activities and food we enjoyed most were sitting on the deck overlooking the river in the afternoons and eating dinner on the deck out night. You cannot beat the view this home has, as it is situated in the tree canopy overlooking the Sheepscot River with abundant wildlife and boats of all kinds passing by. Skip the high prices for lobster at restaurants. Instead, buy them at Simmons Seafood Market, Shaws, or Hannafords, cook them at home, and have lobster rolls on the deck with the best view anywhere!

Maine cottage on rock overlooking sheepscott river
This property was very commodious on one floor with two bedrooms and two baths, a big living room with a TV overlooking the river and a large kitchen with dining area dining table. There was a deck with a grill the appliances, although new were difficult to manage as was the TV and the heating system, but with the owners help, we were able to get them operating For our comfort The house is difficult to access for older people with stone steps and a staircase with 12 stairs, which we didn’t anticipate. There’s a nice nice dock, but the staircase down the hillside was very precipitous and unacceptable for us. House is on Westport Island, and remote to other areas for sightseeing. It’s nestled in the woods and if you like seclusion, it’s for you. The host was very helpful with problems that arose in the house like a leaking toilet and a TV we couldn’t get to
Work
The best lobster Was that Georgetown on the dock at five Islands lobster. The most scenic places we saw were the scenic drive on East Boothbay and Reid State Park. This week has arts festival that’s fun to go to and the Farnsworth Museum and many art galleries in Bath Brunswick, Camden and Edgecombe. The Thomaston prison shop and the town of Rockport are also very special places. Captain fishes Boat ride on Boothbay Harbor is very educational and a lot of fun. Nothing beats the fresh air in of maine

I’m flabbergasted by your 3-star rating! It greatly conflicts with your entry in our guest book and the sense that I got from our extensive phone conversations and text messages to walk you through how to make coffee, turn on the TV, operate the dishwasher and thermostat. The stone steps and stairs to the dock that were unanticipated and unacceptable are clearly visible in the listing description. I will edit that to make it more obvious for future visitors. In 7+ years of hosting, we’ve never had guests tell us they had such a great time and then leave a review like yours.
This is a well-appointed home with newly updated kitchen and plenty of room for meals with family living nearby. There’s an osprey nest on the river buoy and a visiting bald eagle, along with the pleasant chug of lobster boats. Lobster co-op on the island is a great place to get the freshest lobster. Peaceful, private, and yet close enough to fun little towns like Wiscasset, Damariscotta, and Boothbay Harbor - and Pemaquid Point Light.
We loved the home. Perfect mornings on the deck and looking at the water. Super fun to kayak with the seals. Very private. Super close to nature preserves. Highly recommend. Thanks!
Nice, comfortable house. We all enjoyed our stay very much. We took day trips to Boothbay Harbour, Rockland, Camden, and Augusta. Several nice restaurants even allowed dogs so we could bring our pup with us. The house was well appointed, we really lacked nothing. The house was also very tidy. Very quiet and peaceful. Beautiful views from the deck. Would definitely recommend.
This is a comfortable and well-appointed home, with plenty of room for nearby family to come for a meal. The location is wooded, quiet and scenic, with lobster boats on the river and occasionally a deer in the yard. The towns of Wiscasset, Damariscotta, Boothbay Harbor, and Bath are within easy reach, and grocery stores, restaurants and attractions are conveniently close. Contact with the owner was easy through Vrbo.
We loved staying in this beautiful home - and the view was breathtaking. They provided us a very comfortable visit with all of the things we needed and more! It was also easy to get to so many of our favorite Maine spots - and we got to explore the beautiful island as well. We saw deer, lots of birds and harbor seals. Thank you so much - we loved our time in your beautiful home.
What a great place—so many windows overlooking the water! My husband enjoyed fishing off the dock and caught a striper! The owners were very accommodating. Everything you could need in a rental and in such a beautiful setting.
The house was perfect for a peaceful getaway that gave us the feeling of being in nature while also having all the welcomed amenities of this amazing house.
The location is perfect. A walk away from a Lobster Co-Op and a short drive to Wiscasset which is a great little town. It's the perfect mix of feeling remote/removed but close enough to grab anything you may need and or want.
The hosts were communicative and really nice. In short, it was great.
Beautiful location, house is clean and welcoming. So nice to sit on the deck and enjoy the views of the river and watch the boats pass by. We brought our own kayak and saw seals and lots of birds. Peaceful vacation away from the hassle of city life. Owner was very accommodating and thoughtful. Hope to return next summer.
The owners are very nice, the location is great, and the scenery is even better. The traffic on Route 1 can be a hassle, but Monstsweag Bay and the Sheepscot River are wonderful places to kayak – and a source of delicious lobsters -- so why leave?
The house was bigger than it looks in the pictures. Everything we needed was there, including sheets and towels. We stayed for a week and spent countless hours watching the river from the dock. The tides change dramatically with a 10 foot height difference between low and high. We saw seals, ospreys, cormorants, ducks, wrymouths (an eel-like fish we saw in the mud at low tide), deer, and fox. There is a nature preserve just a short walk down the road where you can see both rivers, and rocks exposed at low tide were covered with seals. The only downside was that there lots of mosquitoes and no-see-ums so bring long sleeves (with a hood is helpful) and pants if you're going to sit outside. The house has tons of windows so we were always comfortable with a nice breeze. We stayed in July and the days were hot but the nights cooled off quite a bit. Tim was available by phone if we needed anything (which we didn't) and was very generous, offering to let us stay a day later and allowed us to bring our dog. We had a very peaceful and relaxing week. Some nearby places we visited and loved were Popham beach, Reid State Park, Boothbay harbor, Bath, Sewell pond, and a ropes course called Monkey C Monkey Do. The Montsweag Farm restaurant was excellent and Treats bakery in Wiscasset. We would definitely stay here again!

It’s so gratifying to hear you enjoyed your visit. Watching wildlife from the dock is one of our favorite pastimes, too! We hope you know you are welcome to come back. You were very considerate about leaving the place spotless. Thank you for your kind review.

What A Find!
Very comfortable and well-equipped home in a beautiful location. Owners Tim and Faith have clearly responded to suggestions from previous reviewers and were great to work with from start to finish. Don't miss the opportunity for fresh-off-the-boat bargain-price lobsters at the nearby lobsterman's co-op!

Riverfront nice
Beautiful location, roomy and quiet. Multiple decks with partial River views. Love the Lobster co-op nearby. Master is described as King but it's 2 twins that must be pushed together. 2nd BR is a twin and 3rd is 2 twins. Nice for multiple guests but not for a couples-Easy fix and the owner Tim is so nice I'm betting he will address this soon. Baths are very small and need updating but work fine. Had dock with nice steps down but is only usable at high tide. No outdoor grill-again owner has likely added this. Nice mudroom entry and parking for 2 vehicles. Nearby shopping, activities and good eats with numerous towns to explore. Will return.

About the host
Hosted by Tim Murney and Faith Leitner
Faith is a harpist and Tim is retired from career coaching. We enjoy family and friends, being in and on the water, traveling, DIY projects, good movies, music, books and food. Our two grown daughters have left the nest. We are building some sweat equity into our Sheepscot River getaway with a newly remodeled kitchen, bathroom, deck, etc.
Why they chose this property
We are natives of the Midwest. But, Faith has roots in the Brunswick area and we both have an affinity for the mid-coast region. We had returned to this part of Maine every fall for the past 40+ years. After looking for nearly two years, we found this home on the Sheepscot River. It checked a lot of boxes and improving it has become a labor of love.
What makes this property unique
The house sits on a ridge affording great views of the river and is set back from the road far enough for privacy and peace and quiet. It’s tranquil and off the beaten path yet a stone ’s throw from so much of mid coast Maine’s best.
