Railroad Retreat in Moose Pass – The Gandy Dancer
Step back in time at this lovingly restored 1930s home near Trail Lake in downtown Moose Pass. Once home to the publisher of the Moose Pass Miner, the original Reed’s Jewelry Store, and later an unofficial section house for Alaska Railroad employees, this modern farmhouse blends vintage charm with family-friendly comfort. With 2 king bedrooms, a cozy loft, and mountain views, it’s the perfect base for your Alaska adventure.

Why they chose this property
I chose this neighborhood because Moose Pass is more than just a scenic stop along the Seward Highway—it’s home. I grew up here, surrounded by friends who are still like family and nature that still takes my breath away. The house sits right in the heart of town, just steps from Trail Lake and the Alaska Railroad tracks, with floatplanes coming and going on sunny days. It’s a place where history, community, and adventure all come together. What I enjoy most is the quiet beauty of the mountains, the sounds of trains and planes marking the rhythm of the day, and the sense of connection to a truly unique slice of Alaska.
What makes this property unique
What makes this property unique is its rich connection to Alaska’s railroad history and its one-of-a-kind setting. The home, originally built in the 1930s, has been lovingly restored with a modern farmhouse style while honoring its past as a former jewelry store and residence of a longtime Alaska Railroad employee. Just two lots from the tracks and right on the lake, it offers front-row views of floatplanes and trains—real-time Alaska in action. Soon, guests will also be able to stay in a historic railcar on-site, making this a truly immersive and unforgettable experience in Moose Pass.
