the property was kind of take on the LOTR movies. i think if you had a child who was really into that, it might be a fun experience. the layout was well done and the kitchen worked well. however on arrival we noticed that some of the blankets appeared to not been laundered and had what appeared to be bodily fluids on them. we sent a message to the property manager who assured us they would take care of it and asked if they could get in right away change the blanket out. However after 36 hours and over 20 (!) messages back and forth, they still had not changed it. Only the night before we left (of a 3 day stay) did they deliver Walmart bags with unlaundered blankets in them and did not take the soiled blankets with them.On a lesser note, be aware that though the cabin includes a "Beorn the Bear" themed salt and pepper shaker (both were dirty), AND they do not actually supply salt and pepper. To be clear, accidents happen and things get overlooked. What made the situation bad was that the managers did not seem to care about solving the problems. They could easily have taken the blankets during the day and laundered them in a hour or two but they kept prevaricating and telling us they would "take care of it", but obviously did not care to.

The ancient bears den was absolutely perfect!! Our family (2 adults , 3 teens) had the best time. The decor was absolutely stunning. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook. We enjoyed all of the attention to details and had a Hobbit marathon. We the property has some beautiful public spaces but there is some construction going on . The construction didn’t bother us at all. We were in town for the Smoky mountains. The Smokies are about an hour away but it’s an easy drive. There are plenty of shops in the area for anything you might need. The cabin was better than we expected and really made our trip magical. We will absolutely be returning.
