Nestled in the rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Still Pond Farm is located close to the Swift Run Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park, Charlottesville, UVA and Virginia’s wine country. Our peaceful countryside farm offers ever-changing mountain vistas, wooded trails, and a calming rural escape.

Still Pond was designed by renowned landscape architects Wolfgang Oehme and James van Sweden to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings. Whether it’s sunrise, sunset, or a misty morning, the landscape offers breathtaking views in every season. Wildlife can be seen and heard all around the farm, and the sky—whether filled with stars or a glowing moon—is always spectacular. It’s an ideal setting for birdwatching, wildlife observation, stargazing, or simply soaking in the serenity of peace and quiet.

Our cozy two-story cottage with a loft and wraparound porch is comfortably furnished for a relaxing getaway. Located near the horse stables, the cottage offers easy parking and views of the barn, paddocks, 60-foot round pen, and natural pond. A wooded border behind the cottage adds privacy and a sense of peaceful seclusion—perfect for nature lovers and stargazers alike. In the evenings, guests can gather around the outdoor firepit to enjoy the fresh mountain air and quiet country skies.

The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Load and start the dishwasher
Strip any used beds and gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights, lock the doors and return the keys
Kindly remove all food from the fridge, freezer, floors in dining room, kitchen, and living room. Mops are available in closet if needed.
Strip all bed sheets and place them on the floor. Leave blankets, comforters, and shams on the beds. Place all used towels in the blue laundry basket in the wash closet.
In winter, set heat to 55°F. In summer, set AC to 85°F. Lock the doors, close all windows, and return the keys to the lockbox on the front porch.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.

The perfect rustic cabin feel but with all the amenities you want. Very clean and well-maintained. The host quickly fixed a light in one of the closets when we asked about it. Beds were comfortable. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the porch while listening to the birds. Close to several wineries!

We attended a wedding close by & our family stayed here for a weekend. So much nicer than a hotel! Beautiful grounds, lots of privacy & very kind owner. Charlottesville is short 15-20 drive. Highly recommend!

Great stay at Still Pond Farm

We had a lovely stay at the Cottage at Still Pond Farm. The rooms are brighter than they appear in photos. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was fully stocked, and the setting was beautiful. We were in town for UVA graduation and it was a pretty 30 minute drive to the festivities. The owner was always very responsive to messages prior to our stay. We had no issues during our stay. I highly recommend this wonderful cottage!

Beautiful stay

This was a beautiful property with a cozy cabin. We enjoyed the friendly horses and Smokey the cat. It was quiet and relaxing and just what we needed for a few days away from the hustle and bustle of life. We’d definitely recommend this for anyone who enjoys country living and beautiful, quiet spaces.

My family of four had a wonderful time at the Still Pond Farm Cottage in Stanardsville, VA. We especially enjoyed the cozy fireplace, the comfortable beds, and the friendly cats that greeted us every time we returned to the cabin from going out and about.

Fabulous Girls’ Trip!

We had so much fun visiting the wineries near Charlottesville. This property was a picturesque farm setting nearby and the log cabin was clean, roomy and filled with all the things we needed for our weekend. Our host responded to all of our questions timely and helped us when planning our stay. We would definitely visit again!

Our stay was wonderful and more then we had hoped for! The house is surrounded by beautiful horse pastures. The house was roomy enough for our family of 7. The wrap around porch was great to sit and relax.

Tranquil Retreat

If your looking for a peaceful lovely place to stay in a rural setting but just a short drive to Charlottesville and Skyline Drive and all they have to offer, this is it. Have stayed in many VRBOs in the past and this was one of the very best. We will be back. Also should mention this is centrally located in Virginia wine country.

Wonderful stay at Still Pond Farm

Great place for a family getaway … beautiful farm setting, mountain views, and plenty of wildlife in the area - we saw wild turkeys walking 20 feet from the dining room windows, and many deer on the morning walks. Charming cottage, plenty of room for our party of six. Clean and well equipped with modern appliances and air conditioning. The best part was the friendly cat that will greet you every morning on the front deck! Great location to visit the area wineries, tour Skyline Drive, or hike the mountain trails that are nearby.

We chose this location for its incredible natural beauty, peaceful atmosphere, and proximity to so much that Virginia has to offer. Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Still Pond Farm is just minutes from Shenandoah National Park where we hike often, as well as Madison, nearby counties, and Charlottesville—but it feels a world away. The views are spectacular year-round, and the quiet countryside gives you room to breathe. We love the mix of mountain scenery, small-town charm, and local wineries—but most of all, we love sharing this peaceful setting with our animals. Caring for our horses, chickens, and barn cats is part of our daily rhythm, and it’s a joy to welcome guests into that way of life.

The Cottage at Still Pond Farm has a rustic yet contemporary feel, with open, airy spaces designed to bring the outside in. Cozy textiles and warm wood are blended with accents of glass and mirrors, reflecting natural light and creating a sense of calm. A lofted ceiling adds height and openness, while bay windows in the living and dining rooms frame views of the surrounding paddocks, 60ft round pen, barn and stables.

Throughout the cottage, windows provide ever-changing glimpses of the farm—horses grazing, boarders riding, or staff tending to animals—offering a quiet rhythm of daily farm life. Behind the cottage, a wooded border adds a sense of privacy and seclusion, making it feel tucked away while still near everything.

Though we’re a working farm, guest and resident quarters are well-separated, and the cottage is thoughtfully placed for both comfort and privacy. In the evening, soft interior lighting adds a warm glow, gently lighting the bay windows. The farm is quiet at night, and the cottage feels serene and tucked away—aside from the occasional call of a coyote or fox, or the gentle sounds of our horses nearby.
