We visited my son who is at stationed in Monterey, and fell in love with the house and area! It’s close to everything we wanted to do, including 17-mile drive, Point Lobos, and Carmel beach. Gorgeous location with plenty of sunlight and beautiful, blooming plants on the patio. They truly provided everything we needed. I’m already looking into booking later this year to visit again.
Host was responsive and easy to work with. Great location on quiet dead end street not far from down town and the beaches. Cute as a button cottage, neat as pin and nice set up.
We enjoyed a comfortable stay in this well equipped cottage type home. It makes for a nice easy and relaxing place just a short drive to downtown Carmel.
We really enjoyed the house. Very comfortable with everything we needed and more. The location was great, being near to most major attractions. I'd recommend it.
We have only wonderful things to say. The house was so cozy and comfortable. The neighborhood was quiet and close to everything. It had all the amenities needed and more ( condiments plus). The fireplace was so nice in the evenings. Perfect in many ways.
This house is adorable and has everything we needed on our trip. It’s a long walk from downtown and a pill, which we did several times, and other times we Ubered. Ubers were plentiful and not an issue. We love this town as there is so much to do in town, at the beach, and epic hiking, so close by. So many shops and restaurants that go on and on in great neighborhoods to explore The beach right there is fantastic. Quiet neighborhood with nice places to sit outside.
We loved everything about our stay. The home was so precious and clean with such a fun history. Very close to town and the beach. We wish we had more time there. The owner was so kind and responsive.
Great place to spend a few days in Carmel. Bob's "cottage" was well equipped - it had pretty much everything we needed. It was very quiet and a short drive to Carmel city center. We enjoyed our time there very much.
This is the second time we’ve stayed here and thoroughly loved our stay. Place is in a great location and very well-appointed. We love Carmel especially around the holidays.
Enjoyed a week long adventure on the peninsula. Very well equipped and comfortable cottage. Quiet location, close to downtown Carmel, 17 Mile, and Monterrey. Will visit again.
We spent a wonderful week at this cottage. It was clean and very cozy. Every room has comfortable seating and the beds were perfect. We mostly stayed indoors due to the rain, the gas fireplace made the living room a warm and cozy place to relax.
The Gingerbread Cottage was originally built in 1937 as a two bedroom, one bath cottage which was perfect for Barrie Hart Froese's first home in her hometown of Carmel while serving as a vice principal at Carmel Middle School. She moved to San Francisco, met her husband Bob and has also lived in Barrington, IL and now in Montgomery, AL but has always kept this home as a rental.

What makes this property unique
In 2014, the decision was made to totally renovate the house and expand it to its current configuration. All that was kept were three of the outside walls and the original roofline - and of course the gingerbread woodwork on the outside of the house. While still maintaining the cottage atmosphere, the house has all new stainless steel appliances, a full size washer/dryer and WiFi throughout.
