About this property

House w/ woodstove, fire pit & dog-friendly

Summary:

Step back in time at the historic Kump House (c.1802), a restored Civil War blacksmith shop offering charm, comfort, and nature, and tranquility on three private acres.

- Sleeps 6 | 3 bedrooms | 2 baths

- Woodstove & gas kitchen fireplace for cozy evenings

- Cowboy Cauldron fire pit & grill with outdoor dining

- Dog‑friendly + Wi‑Fi (spotty in remote setting)

- Walk to Ice Mountain Preserve & North River, 2‑hr from DC

The Space:

The woodstove crackles as twilight settles over three private acres, and the scent of pine mingles with the faint echo of a bygone blacksmith’s hammer. You step onto the front porch, hear the distant rush of the North River, and feel history wrap around you like a warm blanket. A clear night invites you to the Cowboy Cauldron fire pit, where marshmallows toast and the stars feel close enough to touch.

Sleeping arrangements

- Upper level: one queen bed and one full bed

- Lower level: one queen bed

The three bedrooms offer ample storage for longer stays, and the layout keeps the sleeping spaces comfortably separate.

Bathrooms

Two full bathrooms serve the house; one features a tub for a relaxing soak, the other a shower for a quick refresh.

Kitchen & dining

A fully equipped kitchen includes an oven, fridge, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, and a gas kitchen fireplace that adds both heat and charm. The dining area provides plenty of seating for your group, and a propane and charcoal grill sit just outside for effortless meals under the sky.

Living space

The spacious living room centers on a cozy woodstove, perfect for gathering after a day of hiking or exploring. A SmartTV offers streaming options, while newly installed gas wall heaters with thermostat control keep the interior comfortable year‑round. Light‑filled rooms showcase wood floors, narrow staircases, and inviting nooks.

Outdoor living

Beyond the fire pit, a front porch invites rocking and dining, and the yard offers space for games. Walk a short distance to Ice Mountain Nature Preserve, where ice vents release cool air year‑round, or wander to the North River for fishing and boating. Dogs are welcome, so your four‑legged companion can share the adventure.

Neighborhood

Just two hours from Washington, DC, the property sits near a variety of attractions: Chaos Off‑Road Park (10 min), The Farmer’s Daughter market (15 min), The River House arts venue (15 min), Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad (30 min), and Cacapon River tubing (30 min). Local shops and eateries provide a taste of West Virginia hospitality.

Comfortable, sheets were outstanding! Host was very accommodating and answered questions right away. Could use a little more lighting, stairs were dark.

I live in DC with my wife and three young kids. I love camping/hiking, drinking (and sometimes brewing) great beer and wine, exploring new restaurants and shops, and traveling all over.

Why they chose this property

We spent years searching for the perfect getaway, and wanted to be close enough to DC that we could do a day trip. We fell in love with the area – and this cabin in particular. We love how cute and cozy our cabin is, and all the fun outdoor activities we can enjoy year-round. :)
