Essay by Susan F. - an 85 year old guest of the Studio:
…an aerie hanging in the treetops above a lake…
From the Lakeside dock:
Truly. Toad Lake has polliwogs.
A brown duck (which?) dashes for brush-cover. Two tiny ducklings follow her. (Are they really running across the surface?) They leave spidery wakes.
A woman suns on an inner-tube. A woman swims laps. A man, standing in the lake, plays fetch-a-stick with two paddling dogs.
A kayaker. Another kayaker with a fishing rod.
On the far shore, any time of day, people are fishing. Slanting light makes colors fluorescent: blue (beach chair), orange (vest), red (SUV), all repeated upside-down in the lake surface.
Bald eagles glide high above. Another raptor (which?) soars.
Swallows (which?) are skimming.
Robins and song sparrows are singing everywhere. More birdsong. (Whose?)
Timeless northwest forest trees that taper, are mirrored on the lake’s surface as wavering blocks of modern art.
Eight Canada geese form a flotilla and head to the far shore, reconnoiter on land, then slowly make their way to the small decaying raft beside us on the pier. They nibble at the covering of green growth and then depart. The geese have left the raft unstable. Untethered, it floats slowly into the middle of the lake. And then, where?
An alligator (?) with brilliant gold eyes drifts to the middle of the lake, then hides on the far side. He is retrieved by kayak, - that thrilling, life-size, plastic alligator head that was meant to keep the geese away.
From the Dwelling:
Look down on the top-feathers of swallows (which?), turned golden in the sun.
Catch sight of two young bucks with furred stubs of antlers strolling down the driveway.
Later, read by lamplight in chairs before the fireplace. One book can be passed between the two of you to share, reading aloud.
Sleep on a queen-size perfect mattress.
Brew morning coffee and take the morning easy in
an aerie hanging in the treetops above a lake

We enjoyed our stay. It was very quiet and peaceful. I forgot the code to check in and the host responded promptly to help us out. We had one issue during our stay and the host was very gracious and resolved it quickly.
Beautiful lake views, very quiet and peaceful surroundings. The studio was very clean and comfortable. I enjoyed the fireplace. Worth noting that the steps to reach the studio are somewhat steep and that parking is indeed tight if you have a larger SUV.
We stayed in February so didn’t get out on the lake, but thoroughly enjoyed our view of the lake, and the convenient location to exploring Bellingham. The studio is clean and comfortable, with the bathroom being a very nice feature. I will say that the kitchenette needs organizing and a true set of pots and pans. I would also buy another small couch and remove the chairs that block the fireplace. Otherwise, it’s a great winter get away!
The host was welcoming and communicative. The property is lovely. Big windows that overlook a quiet lake. Groups of waterfowl were fine with frequent raindrops of late January. The studio was squeaky clean, my personal preference. And warm inside when I unlocked the door.
This is an amazing place to stay! We loved the property, the lake, and all the wildlife. The studio was perfect, it was very clean and had everything we needed and more. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!

We enjoyed staying at Rosetta’s place. It was spacious and had wonderful views. There was close access to the lake and kayaks, which was a win! Will definitely be back.

The cabin was perfect for a little Bellingham getaway! Clean and incredibly quiet, lovely view and good location for getting to trails and to town. The host even had a gift basket out for my husbands 40th. It was really dreamy and oh so welcoming. Very soft comfy sheets, pillows, and a great bed.

So peaceful! This was my 2nd stay at this wonderful property. It is so quiet and serene by this little lake, and it's a joy to watch it change throughout the day with various lighting, weather, wildlife, etc. Everything is incredibly comfortable; this time I stayed in more to fully enjoy my time here. I can't wait to return again!

We were so happy to have you return so quickly. We appreciate your reviews. Thank you!
Absolutely amazing place to relax after 5 days on Mt. Baker. The studio was clean and packed with all that was needed for a comforting stay (to include a guitar!) Unfortunately our bodies were not cooperating after 5 days on the mountain so we did not get to kayak out on the water, but everything was available to do so. Very much recommend this spot if you’re looking for a peaceful getaway on the lake.

Why they chose this property
This property is one of a kind. Swimming and fishing at the door.
What makes this property unique
My family has owned property on Emerald Lake since the 1960's. It's been a great retreat for my six children and grandchildren as well as our friends. Bellingham is minutes away where many activities, shopping and gourmet restaurants add to the wonderful lake setting apart from city life.
