About this property
Historic Old Oak Cottage-Great water views!
The Old Oak Cottage on Harkers Island: Historic Charm Meets Coastal Comfort.
Escape to the tranquility of Harkers Island, NC, and stay in our beautifully preserved historic cottage. Nestled under the sweeping canopy of a magnificent, century-old live oak tree, this is more than just a rental—it's an experience.
About the Space
We are excited to share that the cottage has been freshly painted inside and out and lovingly decorated! Step into a light, airy space featuring a charming fish and beach-themed decor that perfectly captures the spirit of the Crystal Coast.
Bedrooms: 3 spacious, comfortable bedrooms. with QUEEN beds in each room.
Bathrooms: 2 clean, well-appointed bathrooms.
History/Construction: The home was originally built in 1910 using heavy timbers in the attic from a shipwreck! How cool is that! In fact it was later noted by a historian to be the wreck of a "Rum Runner" that had run aground and the locals made good use of the wreckage. The house has beadboard wall and ceiling coverings and pine tongue & groove floors. Although, she's in fantastic shape for her age, she has battle scars and imperfections and we wouldn't want it any other way! You can expect cleanliness and character like no other house on the island!
Views: Enjoy fantastic water views of the sound from 3 different decks, perfect for watching the sunset or the local fishermen go by.
Unique Feature: The incredible, ancient live oak certified over 120 years old, provides a stunning backdrop and a cool, shaded spot for afternoon or evening relaxing. There are 4 other live oaks and 2 mature cedar trees as well.
Guest Access & Amenities
Guests have private access to the entire cottage and the expansive yard and deck, including a perfect little spot beneath the oak tree. The kitchen is fully equipped for preparing fresh seafood dinners, and comfortable outdoor seating is provided to take advantage of the views. Two central air units will keep you comfortable no matter the season.
