About this property
Cozy Cabin: Trails & Family Memories
Welcome to our family cabin, built in 1942 and located in eThe Hickory Nut Gorge Community. On Bearwallow Mountain, this cabin is centrally located to many popular and well developed hiking trails, and is only a 16 mile drive to the Biltmore Estate, and 18 miles to Downtown Ashville. In the other direction you`ll find Chimney Rock in 7 miles and Lake Lure in 11. Relax and enjoy the closeness to nature on our private upper level deck and the lower terrace`s rustic and romantic gazebo with firepit
Nestled in the heart of the stunning Hickory Nut Gorge, Shiner’s Hideaway offers a perfect blend of modern comforts and outdoor adventures. Step inside to discover a thoughtfully designed retreat featuring two traditional bedrooms, a cozy sitting room with a warm fireplace, and a great room complete with a farm table, TV, and comfortable seating that includes a queen-sized pullout couch and two recliners. The master bedroom offers a plush queen foam mattress and is conveniently located near the central bathroom, while the second bedroom, with its two twin mattresses, provides direct access to the back deck. A newly remodeled kitchen awaits your culinary adventures, boasting all-new appliances—including a striking farm sink, retro fridge/freezer combo, and a matching gas range/oven—and a spacious butcher block countertop that leads to a full-sized washer/dryer (detergent provided). Clean linens for the pullout couches and extra blankets are thoughtfully provided throughout the house.
Embrace the best of both worlds as your day unfolds with invigorating hikes along the scenic trails that surround the cabin. Located in the heart of western North Carolina, Shiner’s Hideaway offers unparalleled access to breathtaking outdoor adventures. One of the area’s most spectacular hikes, the Wildcat Rock Trail, is even accessible by foot from the cabin, guiding you through lush forests and up to a dramatic rock outcrop that rewards you with panoramic mountain views. Other nearby trails, such as the gentle yet scenic Bearwallow Mountain Trail and the immersive paths of the Florence Nature Preserve, promise memorable encounters with nature. After a day of exploration, unwind in our wooded backyard where you can gather around a crackling fire pit at the lighted gazebo. Here, the peaceful trails seamlessly connect to the comfort of the cabin, inviting you to roast marshmallows, share stories, and create lasting memories in an atmosphere that feels both intimate and inspiring.
Adding to the allure of this mountain retreat, a deck with a propane grill is perfect for alfresco dining under the stars, while the historic charm of the cabin—built in 1942 and lovingly maintained by our family since 1979—imbues the space with unique touches. In the master bedroom, you’ll notice a painting of Bearwallow Baptist Church, a treasured gift from my grandfather’s best friend, reminding you of the deep ties and enduring legacy of this special place. At Shiner’s Hideaway, every detail is designed to ensure your stay is as memorable as the adventures that await outside your door.
Keyless entry. Parking for 4 vehicles in a row, as the terrain will not allow for side by side parking. From the parking pad, there is a set of stairs that leads to the back deck where you will use the code provided to you just before arrival to enter the house. The front door can be unlocked from inside. It also has a set of stairs to use to enter, but this set is not as steep.
We absolutely love our neighborhood! It`s a quiet neighborhood situated on Little Bearwallow Mountain, in the Hickory Nut Gorge. At the entrance to our neighborhood is a beautiful grassy (or snowy) field with a babbling stream leading down from the pond to the coffee shop. In the winter, our children love building snowmen in the field. Summer dusk is spent watching fireflies hover over the grass. The trees lining the field are Chestnut Trees and drop Chestnuts in abundance during the fall. And honestly, spring is unimaginable without personal witness to the nature in full bloom across the entire town of Gerton. It`s hard to understand the beauty of the area without a visit in each season. To top it all off, kayaking and fishing is allowed in our HOA pond, and the neighbors are friendly and willing to give pointers if you`re not already a bass fisher.
There are stairs to both entrances to the house, as well as to the gazebo. This is a no smoking property. We are pet friendly with a $75 pet fee added upon booking. Before I can approve the reservation, I will need to have you verify your ID in the app if you haven`t already. Thank you!
