Peaceful luxurious retreat with stunning mountain views & nearby skiing/hikes!
Perched at the top of the world with a sweeping 180° view of Vermont's tallest mountains, the stand-alone Above the Clouds Guesthouse — featured in Condé Nast Traveler — is a peaceful, impeccably crafted retreat for up to six. You'll come for Vermont's skiing, hiking, and outdoor adventures, all just minutes away, but you may never want to leave.
A quarter-mile driveway winds through birch and hemlock woods to complete privacy at the top. (Our home sits across the driveway, placed so both houses keep their own space.)
Sleeping for six. The open-concept upstairs sleeps four and the cozy lower level sleeps two more. A one-of-a-kind headboard hand-carved from local maple frames the queen primary bed, positioned for both sunrise and sunset over the mountains. A sheepskin daybed reading nook splits into two twins or a king bed, and the downstairs sofa converts to a full bed. All linens, towels, and pillows are hotel-quality.
A bath that's a work of art. A carved boulder sink, hand-carved and set on a maple live-edge counter, a live-edge sliding door, and a skylight open to the treetops. The walk-in shower fits two, with rainfall and handheld heads over a pebble floor. In summer, step into the private outdoor shower with its own spectacular valley view.
Built for real cooking. The full kitchen has induction cooktops, a countertop oven big enough for a chicken, a dishwasher, and fridge/freezers on both levels and a granite bar lined with leather stools.
Living high in the trees. The living room opens onto a glass-walled deck set among the treetops. Grill out, gather around the firepit (marshmallows provided), or sleep under the stars. Both houses run on solar power with high-speed internet, and we offer a complimentary Level 2 EV charger.
The entire guest house is yours — deck, outdoor shower, and private garden patio included, with parking for two cars.
Getting here: We're at the end of a dirt mountain road, 10 minutes off I-89, 30 from Sugarbush, and 20 from Waterbury's restaurants. You'll want a car — snow tires in winter, and AWD with good clearance during mud season (mid-March to early April).

About the host
Hosted by Indigo Miller
Raised adventuring in the Colorado mountains, I spent a decade in Boston as a mom-baby nurse before earning my MPH and meeting my husband, Connor.
Now we live in Vermont's Green Mountains, where we ski, hike, bike, kayak, garden, and savor great food across Waitsfield, Waterbury, Montpelier, and beyond.
We're thrilled to host the Above the Clouds Guest House - a cozy, luxurious space with dreamy views, plus books & games for adventure in any weather. We love sharing our home and our Vermont!
