Ask a questionAbout Catkin Kilcher Burton
My family homesteaded Alaska in the late 30's and early 40's. I was born in Basel, Switzerland while my originally Swiss family was touring and my father was lecturing about pioneer life in Alaska. I was raised on the homestead adjacent to this property. I went off to college and joined the Marine Corps. After 31 years of commissioned service, I returned to Alaska and am the Trustee for the Kilcher Family Homestead, 620 acres in a conservation easement. I am a volunteer with the Alaska Humanities Forum and the Civilian Advisory Board to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. I manage four active vacation rentals and love showing the homestead to our guests. One of these days, I hope my children and their children will raise their families here near our beloved homestead.
Catkin Kilcher Burton purchased this House in 2004
Why Catkin Kilcher Burton chose Fritz Creek
This property was built on the site of one of the old homesteads (Bartman) which was purchased by my two brothers (Atz and Otto) and myself. It is adjacent to the historic Kilcher homestead with a living museum, room to roam, and one of three access points to the beach. Surrounded by meadows and forests, the sense of splendid isolation is hard to beat. Try to yodel and you'll hear the forest echoing your yodels back.
What makes this House unique
Within walking distance of the Kilcher Homestead, it offers privacy, but with ready access to fine dining, shopping, kayaking, horse back riding, ATV rides, art, theater, fishing and all the other amazing things Homer has to offer. See the Homer Chamber of Commerce website to see how full of life Homer is. There's a homestead-style (read rustic!) sauna which can be used if you're so inclined.
