It has several pubs, restaurants, cafes, boutiques and large range of useful shops including an excellent hardware and moorland clothing shop, butcher, greengrocer and delicatessen. Details of the area, the many restaurants, walks, pubs and places of local interest are all in our House Book Guide. Chagford is an easy 4 miles from the main A30 and Gidleigh Park is a further short 5 minute drive from the village. Much of Dartmoor is remote so if you are looking to explore comprehensively and get to the coast then a car is a must. Either bring your own or hire one at Exeter St David's Station if you arrive by train. We can recommend a car hire company. Alternatively, you can simply take a taxi from the station at Exeter and spend your time here exploring on foot. Chagford is a beautiful 20-25 minute walk or 5 minute drive from the house. Prices are based on 2 people sharing - each additional person is £10 per person per night. The house sleeps a maximum of 4 persons. A wonderful 4 days away at 1GP, lovely setting, quiet and lots of great walks from the doorstep.
The property was as described and everything we wanted for a relaxing break.

Thanks for your review Nick. We hope to see you again in the future.
Second stay at One Gidleigh Park and it was as nice as the first time. Very comfortable, well equipped and very quiet and secluded. This truly is a break away from it all. As a cyclist I had the whole of Dartmoor and the surrounding area easily accessible and there are some amazing (although very hilly) routes to ride. Some nice local pubs in Chagford for 'rehydration' and sustenance make for a great day out. This property is absolutely ideal for anyone wanting to take a proper break in the countryside, close to nature and away from it all. Highly recommended.

What a beautiful place to stay. So tranquil and the ultimate place to relax. The property inside and out has such a high level of finish and looked after so well.
Look out for the deer in the forest behind - such a treat. Will definitely be booking again.

Thank you for the review Jonathan. The tranquility of our location we love too. The deer are always fun to see whenever they come close to the house, except they do love to chomp on our garden foliage!
You were an ideal guest and we’d love to host you again.
Our second visit to 1GP, and just as wonderful as the first time. A lovely welcome basket and stunning location allowed us to take a decent break from work and relax. Some great walks from the property and you have to try the Afternoon Tea at Gidleigh Park - just don't plan to eat dinner as well !

One Gidleigh Park was the perfect place for my wife and I (plus our four-legged companion) to have a relaxing week away. Once there, the car hardly moved and we spent our days walking and exploring the wonderful Dartmoor countryside, the local village (a 30 minute walk) of Chagford or just relaxing in the lovely garden (occasionally interrupted by deer wandering through). Afternoon tea at Gidleigh Park Hotel was a well earned treat after all the walking.

The house is down a peaceful lane and is very private. The garden is beautiful with a hill view at the front and it backs on to woods. Deer, owls and beautiful night skies. Inside, the living area and beds are very comfortable, there are luxurious showers and a huge modern kitchen. The owner Adam was very thoughtful and helpful at all times. We highly recommend One Gidleigh Park.

A beautiful retreat in stunning surroundings
We had a wonderful stay at Gidleigh Park for our honeymoon, and were delighted we were able to take our dog along too. It is not often you find such luxurious, dog-friendly accommodation. It is the perfect place to get away from it all. The property is beautifully presented and Adam provided a welcome hamper which was a nice touch. We also loved all the recommended walking routes which Adam provided and used them to explore the immediate area and Dartmouth. The whole place was very comfortable and relaxing. We went in Autumn when the colours in the surrounding area were spectacular..

Wonderful holiday
We enjoyed a wonderful Easter at this lovely property. Set in a beautiful hidden away location, it is still within easy reach of Chagford with its many eateries. All our wants and needs were catered for with modern fixtures and fittings of the highest quality and beautiful decor. The welcome hamper was a particularly nice gesture from the owners, who were very welcoming. Of particular noteworthiness is the beautiful garden, with its wonderful bird life and we were thrilled to be visited by deer in the rear garden most mornings. A truly wonderful property from which to explore the beauty of Dartmoor.

Thanks for your kind words and we are really glad that you had a good time!
Really enjoyed out time at One Gidleigh Park, the property was immaculate throughout and very well equipped with everything being of high quality and exactly as represented by the photos. The gardens surrounding the cottage are very nice and well maintained and at the rear of the property blend into some dense and very steep woodland facilitating the sighting of various forms Devonian wildlife from time to time including a lost army patrol who had got lost in the woods on night-time manoeuvres and made their way through the garden trying to find their way back to a road 😆 The location is exceptionally quiet and private being at the end of a mile long single track road that terminates at the luxury Gidleigh Park Hotel. Many walks start or emanate close to the cottage and access to Dartmoor and the surrounding countryside is good. The nearby village of Chagford is very quaint with several nice pubs and some interesting shops. Be wary though if you are a nervous driver, many of the roads in the area are single track with some steep gradients! Communication with the host was polite and responsive and the only slight negative for us was that you cannot control the heating yourself. If you want to change the temperature you have to ask the host who will change it remotely - not ideal, but not enough of a niggle that we would not come back. On the whole highly recommended if you want a quiet peaceful break in an outstanding location.

Thanks for your lovely review Howard. It's always good to have positive feedback. Regarding the heating situation we take your point seriously and would like to reply to your comments. Unfortunately in the past some guests have abused the settings of the heating and this has had a knock-on effect with regards to how we monitor the situation. The heating is oil fired and extremely expensive to run so now we control it remotely. In addition, some people like the place warmer than others. The cusp seasons of Spring and Autumn can be a little tricky to monitor because of the very changeable temperatures. We take pride in trying to reply to our guests requests ASAP. Hopefully we got back to you swiftly enough after you reached out. We feel we charge a good price for what we offer and that's why we have consistent 5 * reviews and many returning guests. We would love to host you in the future, you were excellent guests. Hope you did not have to give the trainee soldier a hot meal! Best, Adam
This was our second stay and everything was just as good as the first time. Everything spotless and working well. Such a wonderful location and beautiful walks straight from the door. Weather not so kind this time but it's a great house for hunkering down on a rainy afternoon.

We had such a wonderful stay in this very special house. The house absorbs the stunning surroundings which consists of a very private, well kept garden with mature trees and beautiful flowers. You can faintly hear the nearby waterfalls when your in the garden, which is a blissful sound.
It is immaculately clean and every detail is considered carefully. The kitchen is so well equipped with everything you need.
It was exactly what we needed and we came home feeling very relaxed and refreshed after our stay.
Thank you for the hamper on arrival, I was a huge fan of the red wine.
I would highly recommend this property to anyone, especially if you have a dog as there are some wonderful walks on your doorstep and a helpful guide in the information pack gives you clear directions for walks that we would not have found ourselves. I did not want to go home. Thank you Adam for being such a great host xxx

This is a first class accommodation and everything about it oozes style. The interior has a homely feel with everything you could possibly need. The perfectly manicured garden and attached woods are a delightful bonus. The owners were on hand when required. Massive thank you for the break and definitely returning next year.

Thanks for your kind words Dave - we look forward to having you all to stay again.
One Gidleigh Park is heavenly inside and out, sitting within a beautiful wraparound garden and woodland beyond, just a short walk from the hotel but completely private. We loved the very spacious interior of the cabin-like bungalow, it was charming. Squeaky clean, well equipped, warm and very welcoming. The food hamper was a lovely touch, as was the doggy biscuit barrel. Attention to detail was very evident, eg. very nice bed linen, lots of wardrobe hangers, sharp kitchen knives, abundant mugs and glasses. I could go on! Difficult to find a negative but will say Wifi was a bit slow! Not a problem though. Thank you Adam and Stephen for a most enjoyable break.

One Gidleigh Park is everything it’s claims to be! A beautiful property, immaculately kept and in a wonderful peaceful setting. I’m sure we’ll be back!
If like us you need to have peace and quiet, this is the place for you !
Like a lot of people, we just wanted to get away from everyday life with it’s hustle and bustle. 1 Gidleigh Park was our idea of heaven ! It quite remote, yet within easy reach of the local village with all its amenities there. The property is exceptional and I found it a tranquil , peaceful property, one I didn’t want to leave. Would highly recommend this property if like us, you love privacy, high standards of accommodation, and a very attentive owner whose always at the end of his phone willing to help if needed.
One Gidleigh Park was everything we were looking for in a short break in Dartmoor. We travelled as 2 x couples and a Cockapoo. This property was perfect with two spacious, luxury double bedrooms and two bathrooms. There was sufficient space for everyone.
The living area was spacious but still cozy, and very well decorated. The underfloor heating and log burner was a little treat when we came home after walking all day. The kitchen was well equipped and housed everything we could need. The Garden was beautiful and the only disappointment was that we would not get to make the most of it in the height of spring / summer when it would be at its best. The garden also backs onto a wooded area and we were fortunate enough to relax in bed in the morning, drinking a cuppa and watching the deer, squirrels and foxes.
Communication from the owner; Adam, was very good and a 'house book' was provided prior to arrival to give very clear and full instructions upon arrival. There was also good information regarding 'things to do' in the local area.
Personal touch: we received a lovely welcome basket with a bottle of wine and essentials including a bag of ice for a little G&T!
Beautiful House in a lovely location and would thoroughly recommend.

The cottage was stunning, so relaxing and comfortable with lovely walks on your doorstep. So many places to sit and read a book or watch the wildlife after a long walk, we always looked forward to getting back to the cottage.
Kitchen is very well equipped, and the recommendation to get food from Farmer Luxton farmers shop was greatly appreciated, the quality of food is second to none. Definitely worth a trip.
Would highly recommend a stay at One Gidleigh Park and hope to return again soon!

A beautiful property inside and out. The property was perfect. Great for long walks from the door step. Adam was a great host, everything was well organised. I would definitely recommend this property and I think we may be back...

About the host
Hosted by Adam Sawers
Adam Sawers grew up in London and Chagford. He's a big fan of gardening, walking, film, art and good food. He also loves this house and Dartmoor.
Why they chose this property
When my partner and I first spotted this house it took a massive leap of faith to buy it! It started out as a place where we would spend our weekends out of London. Over the years we have lovingly restored it piecemeal as and when we could afford it. Now it's a very comfortable luxurious house with a contemporary interior in a stunning and quiet location. Ideal for relaxation away from it all and yet not too cut off from the cafes, pubs and shops of pretty Chagford.
What makes this property unique
We love the fact that this house is private and secluded yet we are a 5 minute walk away from a 2 Michelin starred hotel when we feel like splashing out. We are close to Chagford, a living village with a wide range of shops. We can walk out on to Dartmoor from our doorstep. We can be at a great Devon beach within an hour. Exeter with it's great shops, cinema's, Roman ruins, museum and restaurants is close by. There is also swift access to the rest of the country via the A30 and the M5 plus a fast 2 hour train to London. Something for everyone!
