Why Nicholas Freedman chose Petaluma
Found this place on my favorite lunch bike ride. Chance favors the prepared and I was ready to jump - this place had not changed hands in 70 years. All my neighbors are 4 generation ranches - I totally lucked out. The place was a mess, and polished up so well - now with working barns from the 1800, a 1920 granny unit that is my office, outbuildings and a fully renovated farmhouse... and the bunkhouse I am renting to you I hope... the place is a dream come true. It has so many things I love, old barns, cool forests, rock walls, owls, big views, wildflowers, all sorts of critters, spring water... and so much more..
What makes this Cottage unique
Out in the country and so close to town - great meals near and yet here tucked away it is so quiet and beautiful - seeing the landscape change as the hay is cut on the next hill, the grapes going down the road, friendly neighbors always waving - many nights I hear the owls hooting. I pick and eat from the orchard and my garden... eating my own chickens eggs. Work out - just walk up the dead end and from the top see San Fran and the bay. Washer and Dryer (and a pinch a kitchen) may be made available to you for your stay - just ask.

Great, cozy, and quiet. Had a great time here and the location was perfect for us.
Ranch Bunk House
The property was exactly as described..perfect relaxed out of the way location yet accessable to visit both Senoma and Napa or go to the coast by Bodega Bay/Dillon Beach. Petaluma restaurants are only minutes away. So glad we chose Nick's place and not the typical wine country touristy lodging.
Great rural location yet close to town and wine country. Loved the chickens and twin fawns that came to visit! Very special place!!
It was such fun to show you the nesting Great Horned Owls - not many people ever have the chance to see it... amazing to share it with you both.
Petaluma Ranch Living
We enjoyed the quiet and comfort of the ranch cottage and it's proximity to wineries, brew pubs, and town. Our dog was able to figure out the cattle guards for the walk up the road for the expansive views of the valley and beyond. The cows in the road added to our country experience. Nick was a gracious and responsive host. We recommend the cottage for your visit to the Sonoma area.
Note: the refrigerator is small (think dorm room size), and there are no facilities or utensils for eating on site (except the gas grill). We solved this by getting take out from the Petaluma Market and there were no concerns.
This property is a little gem.
This property is such a great little find. Fantastic location and close to many amenities. Our host provided excellent hospitality and made sure we had all we needed. Highly recommended!
Lovely little spot for the price
I didn’t really know the layout of the area prior to visiting, and had I actually looked at a map, I might have aimed for something closer to town. But I am so glad I did not. You feel like you’re in a remote, serene location out in the middle of nowhere, but you’re really just a mile up a paved country road. The land on the way in is stunning, and makes for a really lovely sunsets.
The accommodation of the small unit that we stayed in was good. It’s very minimal, the fridge could be a little bigger, I always prefer a queen bed (it's a full), but that’s nitpicking, it’s an excellent space, And actually a really nice shower head. We were definitely jealous of the much bigger (and more expensive) unit's deck view, but we were able to obtain the same view with a 30 yard walk. Lyft came to get us within 15 minutes on two occasions, which was crucial, as the wine was flowing... :) Outstanding deal for the price.
So glad you loved the place. Funny about the fridge - I bought this one because of input from another guest who hated hearing it go on at night (something I hate as well). So I got this little and silent fridge.
Thanks again and I hope you come back.
This is the bulls-eye for all of wine country - tons of great wineries all over, and the area is packed with entertainment. Check out Jack London State parks shows - Transcendence - Wow... I grew up in NYC and this show under the stars... Or the Green Music Center... just up the road. Lagunitas Brewery is just down the road and downtown Petaluma is 10 mins with amazing restaurants, antique and other small town shops. Sonoma is less than 20 mins away. Head from here on some of the best bike riding in the country or drive out to Point Reyes National Seashore- if you like Ousters and Crab... we have tons of it. Great hikes and parks - close enough to San Fran... every night is nice and cool for great sleeping and most days warm... it is a magical spot. On 50 acres - all of it looking out over the valley - the mornings light up with sun rise and each evening another sunset show.
