Two-bedroom house in a charming canal village, Burgundy, France with free wifi

Our 2-bedroom house is in a charming village which sits on the River Yonne and Canal du Nivernais in rural Burgundy. The interior has been kept faithful to the style and decor of the prior owner, an old Frenchwoman. Fast wifi internet is available in the house. It features two good-sized double bedrooms (plus a fold-out bed), a large dining room, a sitting room and a small kitchen. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and illuminated vanity/sink. Towels and washers are provided, and the cleaning costs are included in the price. Please note that the garden is detached from the house - only 10 metres away on the other side of number 22. It has a table and 4 chairs and clothes lines to dry your washing, but is not private from the street.

The village is very well appointed for its size with amenities including a tiny but comprehensive grocery store, a superb boulangerie (bakery), cafe/bar, restaurant, pharmacy, hairdresser, service (gas) station, marina on the canal, wine cellar and more. The village is overlooked by a lovely old church which has a 9th century crypt.

The neighbours are friendly, and the rural nature of the area makes driving easy. Don't miss the Thursday morning markets in the main square, or for larger shopping needs, Avallon and Auxerre are just 26km (16 miles) and 37km (23 miles) respectively. Or catch a train to Clamecy (17km). The village has a railway station (Corbigny line) which is 1km (0.62 miles) from the house - a 10-12 minute walk.

We recommend drives in the country; walks or bike rides along the canal tow paths; fishing in the river and canal; visiting vineyards; chateaux and abbeys, sampling the delicious local cuisine and wines, and browsing in antique stores. Buy fresh bread, croissants and delicacies every day from the bakery, and on Wednesday (when it's closed), have a croque monsieur and a coffee at the cafe/bar in the main square while watching the world go by. Vezelay is a UNESCO heritage-listed village just 15km (9 miles) away, and the Caves of Arcy-sur-Cure are just 18km (11 miles) away. The wine growing area of Chablis is about 40km away - the whites are superb.

Sejour au calme

Joli village et très calme avec boulangerie, superette et bar tabac a quelques minutes à pied du logement. Le logement est bien et il y a tout ce qu il faut a l'interieur. Il y a également un très bon restaurant " L'étape des gourmets " avec des menus fait maison à prix abordables. Nous avons aussi visité les grottes d'Arcy sur cure qui se trouvent à quelques kilométres en voiture. Nous avons passé un agréable séjour.

Ruhiger Urlaub an der Yonne

Wir hatten eine gute Zeit in dem schönen Häuschen in Chatel Censoir. Wir hatten zu dritt viel Platz, es ist gemütlich eingerichtet und alles Nötige vorhanden. Ich freute mich besonders über Bademöglichkeiten an der Yonne und leckere Croissants aus der Bäckerei.

calme et détente

Nous rentrons tout juste de Chatel Censoir ou nous avons séjourné 3 nuits. Quand on visite la Bourgogne toute une journée (Avallon, Vezelay, Arcy sur Cure, Guédelon etc..) il est indispensable de pouvoir rentrer le soir dans une maison agréable et confortable. C'est le cas avec le logement de Graeme. Malgré la cuisine pas tres bien nettoyée et donc un bon nettoyage de ma part a l'arrivée nous avons pu nous reposer, cuisiner et dormir a notre convenance. Il y a assez de place pour 5. Les 2 chambres sont très spacieuses. La literie tres propre et confortable. La déco est ancienne mais très agréable. Ça change des décos sans âme ni charme issues des magazines de décos. Revenir aux bases, a l'authentique est important de nos jours. Petit plus: Les draps et serviettes sont inclus dans la location. Quand on voyage a 5 dans un monospace, on ne peut pas se permettre un énorme sac de draps et serviettes! Mieux vaut laisser la place aux trotinettes et casques pour une ballade de quelques kilomètres le long du canal du Nivernais qui se situe à 2 pas de la maison. Je rentre de mon séjour chez Graeme reposée et ravie et les enfants aussi. Merci!

Une charmante maison de village

Séjour en août avec de fortes chaleurs mais heureusement la maison est restée fraîche grâce à ces vieux murs épais et ses volets. A notre arrivée tout était propre et il ne manque rien pour un séjour agréable. L’épicerie et la boulangerie sont à 2 mn à pied. Le village et le chemin des remparts sont magnifiques. Seul petit bémol, le jardin qui n’est pas accolé à la maison donc pas pratique du tout. Un agréable séjour dans une maison atypique.

Haus mit wunderbarer Atmosphäre

Wir haben uns in dem Häuschen sehr wohl gefühlt, denn es war wirklich alles vorhanden, was man zum Kochen und Wohlfühlen braucht. Es war ausgesprochen sauber mit einer wunderbaren, altmodischen Einrichtung. Das Haus steht in einem netten Örtchen mit kleinem Supermarkt und einer Bar um die Ecke. Schade ist nur, dass in der Beschreibung nicht erwähnt wird, dass der Garten abseits liegt.
