EDINBURGH'S HISTORIC CENTRE
Edinburgh has been the Scottish capital since the 15th century. It has two distinct areas; the Old Town, dominated by Edinburgh Castle and its medieval street layout and the planned neoclassical New Town with its beautiful Georgian streets and buildings. The harmonious juxtaposition of these two contrasting areas, each with many important buildings, is what gives Edinburgh its unique character. These two areas, the Old Town and the New Town, are separated by the broad, green swath of Princes Street Gardens. The New Town was the solution to the problem of an increasingly crowded city and was constructed from 1767 onwards. The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Thistle Street and Rose Street were named after the national emblems of Scotland and England.
EDINBURGH ATTRACTIONS
The city hosts the annual Edinburgh International Festival which is one of many events that run between the end of July and early September each year. The festival comprises the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Edinburgh International Festival, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the Edinburgh International Book Festival and the Edinburgh Film Festival. Edinburgh has many museums, art galleries and visitor attraction. These include Edinburgh Castle, National Museum of Scotland, Real Mary King’s Close, Palace of Holyroodhouse, Royal Botanic Gardens, Scottish National Gallery, the newly refurbished Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Greyfriar’s Bobby Memorial, Scottish National gallery of Modern Art, National Library of Scotland, Museum of Childhood and many more.
Edinburgh Zoo, covering 82 acres on Corstorphine Hill, is the second most popular paid tourist attraction in Scotland and currently home to two giant pandas, Tian Tian and Yang Guang, on loan from the People's Republic of China.
Edinburgh is also home to The Royal Yacht Britannia, decommissioned in 1997 and now a five-star visitor attraction and evening events venue permanently berthed at Ocean Terminal.

Thanks Bonnie, I’m glad you enjoyed your stay and took time out to write a review, always serves to help others who wish to stay in Edinburgh In the future, good or bad points. Some might not enjoy being so close to the city centre you never know. The stairs can be a bit of a pain at times, specially for those who have heavy luggage, I was more than happy to help however. Wishing you all the best in the future. Kind Regards, Graeme.

Thanks so much for your lovely review, Thistle Street is a perfect place to stay to enjoy Edinburgh and all it has to offer. Would love to welcome you back in the future !
The whole rental process was easy and our host very informative. We were within walking distance to almost everywhere we wanted to go within town. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Would definitely recommend this rental.
This was the perfect spot for our 7 night stay in Edinburgh! The unit was clean and as advertised. It had everything we needed to make our stay most comfortable. The full sized king bed was super comfortable. The large tub was a huge hit especially after walking for several miles in the city! Having a washer/dryer was a big plus. The location was fantastic. The best part of all for me was there were NO funky smells in the unit and or entryway including obnoxious deodorizers. I’m very sensitive to mold, mildew and deodorizers so it was wonderful not to have to deal with that for an entire week. We would highly recommend this place and would stay there again.

The Thistle Street Loft was wonderful. It is the perfect location to explore Edinburgh. Our family had an awesome time and we were able to walk anywhere we choose in Edinburgh. I highly recommend this loft for a couple or small family.

Thanks so much for your review, Thistle Street sometimes goes un-noticed in Edinburgh as it’s such a small street people tend to forget it and walk by without knowing how close it is to the City Centre. No need for buses up Hanover Street as it’s only a short 50m walk uphill until you arrive at George Street and beyond. Thanks so much for you business feel free to drop by anytime in the future.

Good location.
Apartment comfortable, clean, and light. The only downsides were that the kitchen sink setup is awkward and the 2 flights of steps require care in climbing for older or disabled people. The location is terrific. Spacious bathroom Good TV. Close to excellent restaurants. Fluffy white towels. Nice toiletries.

Thanks Dallas, I’m happy you enjoyed your stay, yes the kitchen set-up can be a little awkward, just something people have to work around I guess. During the re-design of the apartment sacrifices had to be made, however it is a much more workable modern home with more privacy. Thistle Street being well over 200 years old, was one of the first streets in the New Town to be built thus the rooms are relatively small In comparison to the grand Georgian homes to the North for example Great King Street which is further down the hill. On the plus side as you said, the location which allows walking to all the fabulous entertainment Edinburgh has to offer worthwhile without the need for a taxi. Best of luck with your travels in the future. Regards Graeme.
Thanks Graeme. We had a lovely time in our first visit to your lovely city. A large component in that was your beautiful apartment. Safe, quiet, neighborhood with great restaurants very close by. We found our go to coffee shop and pub on the very street. We hope to be back again. Tom and Beth.
We loved staying at 47 Thistle Street. You can walk to just about anywhere in the city most tourists want to visit. Old Town, Edinburgh Castle are just a short walk(wear stable shoes for cobblestone) We highly recommend White Horse Oyster restaurant. New Town had tons of great restaurants you can pop into, though reservations are taken in the smallest places even. Thistle Street Bar below was a great place for drinks and music & the bartender was generous with his whisky knowledge. This flat was a perfect place to relax after a day of exploring. We'd definitely stay here again.

THISTLE STREET 1 BED APT, PRINCESS ST
A beautiful apartment for those looking to stay right in the heart of the city center, walk out the front door and a minute’s walk away you’ll find fantastic restaurants and good pubs to enjoy your evening.
The Bedroom located in the back of the apartment is extremely quiet and the gas fire in the lounge makes returning home very welcoming.
Only a 2 Minute taxi from the train station with on street parking made available. Bus and tram links are moments away.
A perfect apartment for couples or for those looking to stay within walking distance of some of Edinburgh’s best Nightlife.

Thanks Matthew for being my first short term tenant !! Very happy that you enjoyed your stay, Thistle Street is a beautiful place to stay and is very well located within the city. Hope you make it back to Scotland sometime and be sure to look us up again.
Great location and lovely flat.
Pros:
It was easy to get to and communication with host was good.
Close to everything including good food!
The main bed is very comfortable
It was very cold out but heating lovely.
The bath/shower was nice and roomy with good pressure and hot water.
We weren’t able to get washer/ dryer to turn on despite instructions and the internet was spotty.
The only real con was the pull out bed was not at all comfortable and
It would have been helpful if the flat was better stocked; there was no tissue or paper towels, one kitchen towel and only one roll of toilet paper for 2 people for 4 days.

Well located apt
The apartment is centrally located in a street with character. On arrival it was very clean, with the amenities described. The bed is very comfortable, the wardrobe is large (some clothes hangers would be good though - there was only 1) and the bedroom is quiet - when the extractor fan is not on. The bathroom can only be accessed via the bedroom something to consider if there are more than 2 of you. The kitchen area is fairly compact, while there is a lot of space for chopping and food prep, the overall kitchen functionality is low - it's a bit of a squeeze into the sink to do the washing up and you have to be mindful to unplug the kettle and toaster otherwise the electric flexes trail close to the hob rings. There is some cupboard space for food. The crockery and cutlery is fine and there are 2 very large stock pots and one smaller sauce pan for using on the hob. The frying pan is small and extremely scratched/worn such that you probably wouldn't want to use it. The apt has good light, the TV is huge and works well. The sofabed which I sat on as a sofa has dips in both cushions and personally I didn't find it overly comfortable to sit on. The admin arrangements are excellent as is the welcome and things to do pack. While I stayed there was a problem with the boiler extractor fan in that this would not switch off meaning that there was a constant vibration and humming in the bedroom 24 hours, which made sleeping a problem. Someone came out to look at this within a couple of hours of me reporting it on the 2nd morning I was staying and they returned the following day (my final day) to repair it. Unfortunately in doing so they seemed to disconnect the oven which I only discovered when I went to cook my dinner. These problems probably happen once in a blue moon and the point I wanted to make is that problems were dealt with quickly and they were sure to check with me when was convenient for fixers to come. If it were not for these problems I would have rated the apt with 4 stars.
On balance, I would stay again for a w/end, mainly because of the location - very central to everything, and if the sofa is ever upgraded I'd consider staying for a longer period.

Response from VrboOwner on 29 Mar 2020
Hi Tracy, Thanks for your review, Apologies for the bathroom extractor fan switch being broken. This has now been fixed along with the other issues you mentioned. I actually live overseas so It has been a bit of a challenge in setting up the apartment for the short term rental market. On occasions it can be difficult at times to monitor when things need replaced. Big ticket Items such as Sofa’s, Beds and Re-painting of the apartment I usually allow a certain time period to expire for normal wear and tear before consideration of a replacement is given. The Sofa was looked at previously at the end of last year and I will be considering a replacement within the next year.
The Apartment is small, as are all 1 Bed apartments along Thistle Street. During the re-design which took place 10 years ago for an open plan Kitchen / Lounge area to work well a smaller Kitchen area was the only solution. For the Kitchen to have the essentials Oven, Fridge, Washing Machine and Dishwasher certain sacrifices had to be made one of which was the Sink. Overall during the 10 years the flat was on the long term rental market I only had 3 tenants which I think proves the livability of the apartment over a longer time period.
I am thankful for your review as it really does help you to try and improve things for the next tenant. Please keep us in mind if you re-visit Edinburgh in the near future.
Regards
Graeme
Our booking and check-in process went very smoothly. Of note this is an upper floor apartment without a lift. We had arrived from the Cotswolds and had a converted barn apartment for the same price as a central Edinburgh flat. For the market it is a good value, just not to the expectations we had. I think the biggest reaso were the pictures in the listing show a bright light feel. Wherein reality the flat felt very used and dim. I would recommend this apartment as you will not finder a better location for the price.
We had a lovely stay in the flat. Clean, comfortable and very close to everything.
