About this property
The Green Lake Cottage
BRAND NEW KITCHEN REMODEL. This fully furnished 2 Bed/ 1 bath cottage with 90' of private frontage on 2,063 acre all sports Green Lake has gone through a major renovation in 2012. The remodeling included all new roof, siding, windows, knotty pine walls, ceilings, flooring, landscaping and more... The new kitchen remodel in spring 2018 includes granite countertops, new cupboards, appliances and dishes. The cottage sits on the South end of Green Lake near the mouth of the Betsie River and 5 minutes to the Interlochen Arts Academy and 15-20 to Traverse City. The cottage offers a 14' starcraft fishing/row boat and a paddle boat and 2 nice kayaks for your private use. Or if you like you can bring your own boat and tie up to the dock. You can also enjoy yourself by lounging on the new brick paver patio with built in fire pit or by spreading the sand beneath your toes on the small beach area. If working is your thing the Wi-Fi reaches the end of the dock. The Decor has the full "up north" feel to it. Log beds, end tables, leather furniture, knotty pine throughout ect. The area has so much to offer with top ten ratings for travelers, food enthusiasts, winery lovers and beach goers. Enjoy a book in the hammock with the morning sun and a round of golf at one of the many highly recognized golf courses in the afternoon. The cottage is privately owned and is not set-up for more than 5 people total (including children of any age), there is a $100 per person/per week fee for any people over the 5/person limit and must be approved by the owner. This is taken very seriously as we base the price of the rental on a total of 5 people (including children). Thanks for your respect on this issue.

Stayed for a long weekend, everything was just as described. Joel was very responsive and called me direct to be sure we had all the details as we booked immediately. Location was perfect and the lake was amazing!!
We had a great stay here. The house is centrally located to many areas and has everything you need. My son and I had a memorable stay here for a long weekend.
Green Lake cottage was very clean and comfortable. Well stocked with all your needs. We enjoyed the row boat. It was a nice relaxing long weekend. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
This cabin was perfect for our family. We enjoyed staying here. The check in process was very smooth. The cabin was very clean too. It was very peaceful and relaxing!
The cottage was clean and having the garage available in case of rain is a good touch.

Disliked: Check-in, communication
This should be a 5 star review, but the owner was money hungry, with unrealistic expectations and aggressively texted me until my husband stepped in and forfeited our damage deposit so he would leave me alone. Before leaving, we carefully completed the checkout to do list- gather all trash, washed/dried/put away dishes, returned the boats/kayaks to their places, and gathered the used linens, placing what fit into the provided laundry bag (what wouldn’t fit, we placed beside the bag in the bathtub.) We attempted to sweep the floors, but there was no dustpan in the house or garage. We vacuumed as best we could (with a small stick vacuum) and left the cottage in what we felt was clean, lived-in condition after a family of five had stayed there for a week. It wasn’t “showroom ready,” but it was certainly not excessively dirty, and we understand that rentals receive a deep cleaning between guests. Around 5 pm, we arrived back home in Ohio. I began receiving text messages from the owner stating that the cottage was “extremely dirty.” He mentioned debris under the couch, grease splatter on cooking surface of the gas range, ashes on the lawn, divots in the yard. We have stayed many places over the years and have never had this response. What he called dirty, was our family splitting firewood for s’mores (small divots in the yard,) grilling out dinner at the charcoal grill (ashes), and cooking bacon for breakfast (grease). This is the exact reason we came- family time. Guest beware!

Hi Kelly
Like you said, a 5 STAR.
Once I questioned the condition YOU left our home, your stay somehow became a 1 star? Inquiring about the condition you left our home is not aggressively texting you. Please, share the messages. And yes, quite disappointed at your treatment of our home. Yes, food scattered EVERYWHERE. Yes, over a half dozen big chunks of grass missing on the lakeside yard. Charcoal grill ashes just dumped in the yard and left (never mind placing them in the fire pit or just cleaning them up). The oven and cook top, absolutely trashed and left for someone else to care for.
Nothing was returned to its position as required. We even found a half eaten sandwich under the sink and food all over the yard, presumably to feed to geese you mentioned we ask you not to.
Never once did I ask for money as you insinuated. However, I do have the burden of showing you the neglect, in case there are extra cleaning fees, so you understand why. Again, please share the messages. In fact, after sharing 6 pictures clearly showing neglect, your husband offered up the deposit as a way to make it right. What does that tell you? We plan to assess 2 extra hours of cleaning (not the whole deposit) and had to ask the guest coming behind you to check in late as a result. So disrespectful!!
Wonderful stay at Green Lake Cottage while we dropped off our daughter at the Interlochen Camp for the Arts. Everything as expected, lovely environment, nice to get away from leaf blowers and gnarly co-workers, and enjoy "pure Michigan". Emily and Joel were terrific!
Wonderful lakefront cottage; beautiful lake with kayaks to use anytime. Central location to lots of great points of interest; the dock made a serene place for morning coffee and the spot under the willow trees were an amazing, shady oasis. The cottage was well equipped, thought
fully decorated and very clean.
The property was well maintained, perfectly stocked with all the necessities and the views couldn't be found anywhere else! This stay was just my husband and I, but would also be perfect for a smaller family. Communication with the property owner was easy as well. If you're looking for the perfect spot for a lakeside getaway with easy access to Traverse City this is the best you'll find!
Fantastic place and weekend. Watching the sunrise off the dock was wonderful! There were so many outdoor things to do we couldn't get them all in. Owner also responded quickly to all questions. We plan on renting again.
We all had an amazing stay at this beautiful cottage. It was nice to refuel from the everyday life. It was a beautiful lake wonderful for swimming and fishing. Also lovely fire pit(the owner even left a s’more kit 😊). The kayaks and pedal boat were awesome too. It was great!!!!!!
It is our second time staying at this cottage and once again we had a fantastic time!
It was so peaceful and serene to look at the lake and enjoy the beautiful trees and wildlife. The willow trees around the campfire are magical!
We caught some nice fish and enjoyed kayaking too.
Great place to recharge and reconnect with friends !
Thanks again!

Place was just as beautiful as advertised (more). So many neat little decorative touches throughout the cottage made it really unique. Joel and owners left us supplies for s’mores which we definitely took advantage of. So close to so many great things to do but a day spent at the cottage is just as nice.

Property was spotless, beautiful knotty pine paneling. Decor was fantastic. Kitchen was well equipped, kayaks and dock for water sports. Might help to have grab bar in shower for older guests. Super location on Green Lake, 25 minutes or so from Traverse City. I highly recommend it
Our family wanted a final summer getaway before school started. This house was the perfect size for 3-5 people. The house has been redone and is very clean and organized. There is a great little yard and the house is not too far from the lake. Communication with Joel was great through text. I would definitely stay there again.
Spent some great family time at Green Lake. The fishing was excellent and the house was clean with nice extras. We enjoyed the S'mores by the firepit. We used the kayaks daily. Close to everything we wanted- grocery store, restaurants, Sleeping Bear Dunes and the cute little town of Lake Ann. Wouldn't have changed a thing except wish we could have stayed longer. We'll be back.
We enjoyed the open living room and kitchen with the big windows looking out onto a spacious backyard and lake. The chairs on the wooden dock were a really comfortable fun place to watch the water. The Betsie river is beautiful and it’s a quick kayak along the lake shore to get to it—I highly recommend that you take advantage of the kayaks. Great BBQ facilities also! Our family loved sitting outside. 2nd bedroom is smaller so best for kids.
This was our first time vacationing in Northern Michigan and we are sold on the natural beauty of this hidden gem. The Green Lake Cottage was a great spot to access all of the great spots in the area (sleeping bear dunes, Traverse City, Torch Lake) and it was also the perfect setting to take in Green Lake. We had everything we could've needed for our stay, including lots of great outdoor toys including kayaks, bikes, croquet, and plenty of firewood. The cabin was perfect for our family of four. We enjoyed spending lots of time on the dock and playing in the water, which was nice and shallow...perfect for our kids.
We highly recommend the Green Lake Cottage and would gladly stay again!
I can not say enough amazing things about this rental. It was absolutely perfect for the four of us on a week vacation. The cottage was impeccably clean, well stocked with everything you needed and things you didn’t know you needed. Joel had a wonderful s’more making basket for us and so many other thoughtful gestures like leaving a picnic basket out to use with a nice note inside. We hired a photographer to take pictures of us at the property because it was so beautiful. The lake is beautiful and serene. I spent my mornings sitting on the dock drinking coffee. We had such a relaxing time using the corn hole toss and hanging out by the fire. We enjoyed the kayaks everyday exploring the lake. I really didn’t want to leave. Joel, you have an amazing gem on the lake. Thank you!

Great Place to Get Away From It All
We had an absolutely wonderful, relaxing week at this cottage. The owners were wonderful and extremely accommodating. The cottage is actually in Interlochen and the location is great. It's only a 15-20 minute drive into Traverse City. There is a State Park and The Interlochen Arts Academy right down the road. The Arts Academy has some great performances during the summer. If you rent a boat with a motor you can even boat over, drop anchor and listen to the music for free! The lake is beautiful but has lots of plant life. There is a small beach area by the dock that is free of plants which was fine for us. If you'd like to venture out further, make sure to bring your water shoes. There were beautiful lily pads with flowers floating on the lake and the water was so clear that you could see the bottom when you were in the middle! It's so very serene - not very busy. We used both the row boat and paddle boat during our stay. We took a day trip to Mackinac (about a 2 1/2 hour drive) and it was a beautiful day! Our group consisted of 3 adults and 1 four year old child and the accommodations were fine. It's clean, comfortable and cozy. It was nice to have the kitchen because we cooked a couple of nights and were able to have breakfast each morning. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, pots, pans, utensils, spices, coffee filters, etc. We can't stress enough how relaxing this place is. We will definitely return.

Glad you had a good time Sharon, looking forward to having you next year.
The cottage was just perfect for my husband and I and the view and lake are AMAZING! So nice that there was a fishing boat, paddle boat and kayaks to use and plenty of wood for the fire pit. The cottage was very clean and very tastefully decorated. Joel was readily available when we needed him and very helpful and pleasant to deal with. We will definitely be back!!
