Why they chose this property
Because it's a unique place in middle of a Kiwi reserve on the Tutukaka Coast
What makes this property unique
The cabin encapsulates many unique features that serve as a point of reflection of the heritage of this place, and as a representation of the surroundings.
The first of those features is the yellow exterior represents the fine sands of the beaches of the coast. Beneath the yellow walls, is a generous deck, which spans towards the bush, allowing you to view the canopy and the surrounding hills.
Behind the yellow walls, the cabin comprises of many wooden features which represent the nature around the Tutukaka Coast but also instills a feeling of minimalism.
The wooden features are made of Macrocarpa, a tree that is prominent on the coast, especially in grasslands. But also Ancient Kauri, which has spent history in the swamps of Northland. We have a beautifully, tailored table made from ancient Kauri, which is 40,000 years old, bolted together by bolts that were once used by seagoing vessels, which travelled the waters around the world.
The cabin also contains a mezzanine, which is accessed by stairs. The mezzanine contains a comfortable bed, and ancient Kauri side tables. Underneath the mezzanine is a cosy, seating area, constituted of comfortable bean bags, which has a view to surrounding bush, through a large window, making it a perfect place to read and reflect.
