Well equipped, great location, property has opportunities for improvement. Host lacking responsiveness to inquiries leading up to stay. Wrong wifi information provided.
This was a great location in Fanny Bay. We loved the open living area with a large table for meals and games and also the woodturning fire place, complete with firewood, This made our January stay extra special! It was nice to walk along the ocean right from the property along the point. Our Host, Matt was easy to communicate with for our arrival and exiting instructions. Would recommend this charming place for a family get together! We enjoyed our winter weekend stay!
We had a wonderful mini getaway. The home was perfect for our family (two adults, two children and a dog). Being able to walk out into the backyard and be right on the beach was incredible. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything you need to cook. The BBQ on the deck was super handy, and the wood burning fireplace added a lovely touch of warmth. The amenities for the kids to play with down on the beach was an added bonus as we did not think we were going to have nice weather so didn't not pack and spades, buckets, etc. We also had a fire down on the beach and it was delightful! The neighborhood was lovely and quiet. We liked how it was actually lived in, as sometimes you go places and all the homes around you are empty due to them all being holiday homes. Great walks along the beach for the dog and Courtenay is super close with all the shops you would need for groceries, etc. Overall, we had such an amazing time and can't wait to come back!
We stayed for 3 days and the views from the deck and yard we awesome. The property is like a diamond in the rough and with a few improvements would be outstanding. We enjoyed our stay and visited with many friends in the area.
Lots of bird watching and wildlife sightings! Thanks,
Carol R.

Great location, with privacy and quiet, shady deck to sit on (the best feature of the house). Property shows some neglect - dead plants around front door and on deck, recycling and garbage outside secondary door (also at the front of the property) on our arrival (did not smell good), musty smell in house, some upgrades (eg bath and floors) but kitchen cabinets old, china and cutlery mismatched, bedding old and poor quality, found hairs in the bath when we arrived. Would have appreciated binder of instructions on accessing wifi, recycling, local information. Expensive for what it was - at the price we paid I expected better.
Amazing place for a family vacation!
The house is big, bright (these huge windows!), and well stocked with everything necessary for the stay. The backyard has some mature trees, so lots of nice shade that we loved during the latest heat wave, and direct access to water - the slope is gentle, so water is shallow for a while and then gets deeper for comfortable swimming or paddle boarding. Our kids loved that. There is even a swing in the yard!
The house is close to an awesome seafood restaurant, a ferry to Denman Island, and only 20 minutes drive from Courtenay.
We had a wonderful time and would love to come back!

Relaxed, comfortable home in great location
This is a spacious home in a great location - right on the waterfront with a lovely garden leading to the shore - and in a very quiet and peaceful neighbourhood. Herons, seals, birds - peace, water and mountain views. Lovely. This is a 1970's ? home - or thereabouts - so if you are looking for new granite countertops etc, don't come here. It's dated, and has some tatty elements, BUT it is spacious, it's well equipped, the beds are comfy, there's plenty of hot water, and the outside deck is just perfect for eating outside. We were disappointed to only have 1 towel provided per couple, and the pillows were old, but if you bring your own towels and pillows, this is a lovely house to stay in for a relaxed family vacation where the dog is welcome too. We hope to go back again :)
It was musty, moldy smelling. Oatio, garden area's were not cleaned up. The firepit was nothing like the pictures, it was overgrown so legally you could not have a fire if you wanted. VERY OVER PRICED.
We used the house as a hub for a couple of days of cycling. The cycling was great. The location of the house was excellent except the water in front of the house disappears into mud flats at low tide.
The issues were related to the filthiness of the house and the associated bad smells. The worst that I have ever encountered.
One of two showers was unusable due to a broken shower door.
On arrival, the dishwasher was full. The sheets were not put on the beds. There were no towels put out. In short no preparation for paying guests.
In summary this facility is NOT RECOMMENDED.
Our family stayed at Fanny Bay for about a week and didn't want to leave! Wished we had booked a couple of days longer! Large house with everything you need in a quiet location with great water access and a fantastic backyard with lots of trees.
Check-in was super easy and the communication with Matt was great too. I spoke to Matt prior to our arrival and he was so kind to provide some tips for things to do in the area. We had one little hiccup there was a part of the BBQ that needed to be replaced but after reaching out to Matt he sent somebody to take care of it within a couple of hours.
The house is a bit older but in a comfortable way and it was definitely the best-equipped cottage we have ever been to with e.g., extra beach towels, laundry/dryer, some kitchen staples, boogie boards, and even some outdoor kids’ toys and more. There were only small things that could use minor repairs or a quick check before new arrivals get in; the screen door for the patio was missing, the door in the downstairs bathroom kept coming out of its rail and in one of the drawers in the downstairs bedroom, somebody had forgotten some personal items. However, the location and property with direct water access and the beautiful view across the bay far outweighed any of these minor flaws.
We definitely will be back!

Total Waste of My hard Earned Money
The house was not clean at all. There was a rancid smell coming from the lower floor. List of issues, old laundry left in washing machine, dead bird in laundry room, no A/C,broken screen for deck door, Food waste on deck floor, debris all over main floor including toys, playing cards markers etc, broken glass on deck by the barbecue, the carpet on the stairs to the lower level is filthy and disgusting, lower level sliding door hard to open, dishwasher was full of dishes, downstairs show door off of the track, grill was extremely dirty, outdoor furniture was broken and melted by fire, there was an active bird nest on the deck, there was an old broken mop on the deck, the lower area where storage area was a disaster area, nothing stored correctly or safely, the toilet paper holder in the lower bathroom was rusted, there was a broken fire starter left laying on the deck table, an old cigarette butt on the deck,a light with an exposed electrical element on the deck, an empty wine bottle on the lower deck, broken wood frames on the path beside the house. I have photos to prove all of the issues. This property should not be rented!! Our friends traveled from the UK and southern USA and had to stay in this dump. We were embarrased!
Our family spent a few nights here and truly did not want to leave! I wish I could give it 4.5 stars, but I had to round up. :) The house is older, but in that comfy, homey way that is relaxing because you don't have to worry about everything being too precious and your kids breaking something.
There is a zipline and swing in the big, grassy backyard that rolls right down to the sea. Bring your water shoes for swimming in these lovely, clear, warm waters, because the sea floor is littered with rocks and barnacles and oysters and other wonderful things to discover. At low tide the bay can turn temporarily into mud flats for easy crab hunting--and not to worry, the tide will be back in a couple of hours! There was a SUP, kayak and few boogie boards available for use as well--pretty awesome.
The dryer was broken (it happened the day of our arrival, and we were fine using solar power to dry our things) and the oven ended up refusing to turn on, but Matt dropped off a giant toaster oven for us to use instead.
Ultimately, this place was so happy and relaxing that we wouldn't hesitate to return.
