About this property
Grandpas Oasis w/private heated pool. Sleeps 6 or 7 with couch, mattress & crib.
11332A Summerwinds Ct, Ft Myers FL 33908 Grandma and Grampa's private oasis. Sleeps 4 in beds plus a couch & blow up twin mattress in living room & crib for 3 more. My Uncle Dean Hendryx picked this 1980's duplex 3/4 of the way down Summerwinds Court(11332A) cul de sac because it's close to Ft Myers Beach(4.3 miles) and Sanibel Island(9 miles), but out of beach traffic. San Carlos Boulevard and Summerlin Road intersection are just a few blocks away. The pool is open with a new screen room.-Use at your own risk. See the 2025 walk thru video.
This comes with Smart TVs and great WIFI. But you're not stuck in bumper to bumper beach/bridge traffic. You can head a couple miles to the beach or head to shopping, golf, and inland attractions. Go ride the airboats. Deep sea fish. You can fly in and ride the trolley to the beach for 75 cents. The walk to the trolley behind Walmart is a pretty good hike. Maybe 6 blocks? Walk to the ice cream shop or breakfast restaurants. When we inherited the property Dean had shown my family all the possibilities for Spring training Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins baseball, biking, wildlife watching, shelling, boating, golfing, airboat rides, seafood restaurants and that head bobbing Reggae music. The new Margaritaville is 4 miles down and huge. We boated to islands and shelled where few people go. A deep sea boat called "The Getaway" took us on a relaxing deep sea fishing trip. And if you're a little wild, take the "Key West Express" on a fast ride to Key West for a day or two. Baseball spring training games with the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins. Check out the restaurants on the way to Sanibel. When you're done come back to Grandpas Oasis. Cookout. Hang by the pool with the party lights and big tv. The pool floor has a pea gravel surface currently. We hope to update this in 2026. We are always making improvements. The place is priced accordingly. The new frig has rust speckles from salty Florida air but cools perfectly. Dated decorations being replaced gradually. The neighborhood out front is "typical Florida". It's NOT a gated community. Excellent breakfast a few blocks away. There is a fence, trees and shed that provide some privacy The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. The garage is only a storage area for the crib, beach chairs, bikes, coolers and other stuff. You are free to use anything out there. The garage door doesn't work so no cars. A large living room with 2 couches all new. We have a portable high chair and crib for the little ones. Also the couch and a blowup mattress in the living room sleep 2 more. The master bedroom has it's own bathroom, tub and shower. Currently no doors on the closets. The second bedroom has a new queen bed. The second bathroom by the pool has a nice shower. There's a washer, dryer in the utility room. This place works for a small family or maybe two couples and kids. No pets are allowed. Bring charcoal and lighter fluid for the Weber grill. Wonderful location...older duplex that needs repairs but it was clean, supplies and linens are plentiful..even had beach chairs.....Owner's sister stayed next to us and was pleasant and helpful...good place to stay but if you are looking for modern place, look elsewhere...I was there with 3 other ladies and they were pleased as well......

Thank you Claude. Yes its dated but we make updates as possible. Money makes it happen. Thanks
Property was very clean and family friendly. Pool was clean and perfect for a family vacation. Booking process was extremely simple and instructions to enter and leave property were very easy to follow. A huge thank you from the whole family to the owners on a perfect vacation without hassles!!
The propert was all that we could want. Clean, convenient to beaches and shops. Would definitely stay here again. Host of very accommodating to our needs
It needs remodeling, but it's a quiet and comfortable place. The only thing I find a little more expensive is the cleaning fee, and we have to wash our towels before leaving. I think that's part of the fee; every time I've stayed at different beach rentals, it's included. I would return later when they finish remodeling.
Had a great time staying with family for Spring Training. House was clean. Had a good amount of towels for the pool which was warm and awesome. Cooked breakfast every morning with provided pans. Kitchen was well stocked. Quick communication with the owner, easy check in. Would definitely stay here again. Q
House is a bit outdated and beds not too comfortable, however everything else made up for it. The pool was great, it was clean, the AC worked great. I would go back and stay here.

Thanks Gary - Another great stay !!!
This was our second stay at the hideout and it felt like coming home. We enjoy the quiet neighborhood and the close proximity to the beach and shopping. Thanks again to Gary for another great stay. Sincerely, Todd and Marsha
Stayed here with my wife and kids and it couldn’t have been more perfect! The house has everything you could need, it’s comfortable, and it’s close to everything. The pool was really great and it got a lot of use from all of us. Lots to do in the area which is a bonus. We’d definitely stay here again!
Gary is very accommodating. The pool is great. We love that part of our stay. There could be a few updates that are needed but all the everyday essentials were available and Gary couldn't be nicer.

If the walls could talk, I think they'd share happy memories of a sweet family.
I felt the owners of this property were inviting us into their family's special vacation home for us to make our memories there too.

About the host
Hosted by Gary W Skillestad Sr Owner/Manager
Gary W Skillestad is part owner/manager along with my sister Sue. We inherited this property from my Uncle Dean Hendryx and Aunt Beverly. They taught my family to love the mild weather and attractions of the Gulf Coast. After a commercial illustration career, creating and running a 3 location childcare center for 10 years and raising 4 children I'm looking forward to retirement years. I now have a girlfriend, four granddaughters and am on social security. But it looks like I'll continue to work for awhile. I've started GWSkilly's Insurance for Medicare & other licensed in WI, MN, IL, IA, NC, & FL.. Therefore, come share our duplex. Take care of it and have a blast. Call with any questions.
Why they chose this property
My father Wayne Skillestad started out by retiring in a modest mobile home in nearby Indian Creek Park. It had great amenities but was cramped and scary during storms. Uncle Dean was also there. But Dean got the chance to move up into a more solid home. This gave us our roots in Ft Myers.
What makes this property unique
Central, convenient location to everything yet just out of the bumper to bumper beach life. You can even walk a couple blocks, get on a trolley and ride to the beach if you want. Great home base in Summer when rates are incredibly low. Look for your retirement dream property while staying here. Plenty of nearby seafood restaurants, bars, grocery stores, shops and great miniature golf places. Go see spring training for the Twins and Red Sox.
