Spacious Family House. Three Minutes Walk to the Beach. Big, Sunny Garden
We are relaunching our house after works and refurbishment in 2025. I am able to offer a discount on some mid-week stays of 3 nights or more; just use the CONTACT HOST button to let me know your desired dates.
A spacious, light-filled family house with views to Ballard Down to the rear and less than 5 minutes gently sloping walk to the beach. Very quietly situated in a residential road. Generous parking for 2 cars to the side of the house. Unrestricted parking in the road outside the house.
Wide, lawned garden, good for football/outdoor games. Barbeque and large picnic table for outside dining. Very comfortably furnished, two large sitting rooms, (one for you, one for the kids!) one with French doors and verandah, both with TV and DVD. Extensive children's DVD library. Internet access. Lots of children's games - Lego, Brio railway (bring your own trains), building blocks, wooden castle and pirate ship, marble run as well as board games and others. Teepee for those who like a den. Boules, badminton, cricket, hoopla, Jacques croquet set and target game for the garden.
Large, comfortable eat-in farmhouse type kitchen, window seat and views of hills. Generously equipped kitchen meant for cooking - Le Creuset casseroles, decent cook's knives etc. The table in the kitchen seats 6 adults comfortably, 8 is cosy and 10 is a squeeze. The house is very suitable for families and intergenerational stays and we often have children eat first then adults later. Having said that, we had New Year with adults, teenagers and younger children totalling 11 squeezed in - myself perched on a stool at the counter. So it depends how you like it. Big front porch and generous utility room for all the beach stuff. Five bedrooms, (Superking, King and twin on the 1st floor. Two twins on the 2nd floor.) All lovely, comfy beds, no bunk beds. One very large bathroom with separate shower cubicle and original oak cased twenties bath, which has two entrance doors so may be ensuite if wished. One family bathroom with walk in shower. The twin bedroom on the 1st floor has a sink which helps with teeth cleaning pressures. There is an extra separate loo upstairs and a cloakroom downstairs sporting the original Edwardian thunderbox. (4 loos in total)
It is the perfect house if you want a classic Enid Blyton holiday. Once here you don't need the car except to do a big shop at the Co-Op (or not even that if you internet shop). The house is very suitable for two families sharing who don't want to be on top of each other and also multi-generation stays, particularly as the gentle walk to the beach is suitable for all ages. If you love walking you can join the coast path almost immediately outside the house. You can set off directly to Corfe Castle, which is a magnificent walk along the top of the ridge with a view over to Poole as well as towards Corfe. A fantastic day's walk is to do the full loop back to Swanage via Chapman's Pool and Worth Matravers. Great pubs in Corfe, Kingston and Worth for lunch on your way. Or you can head to Studland village and beaches over Ballard Down. The open top bus stop is at the end of our road, so you can have a one-way walk and a ride home! Maps, local books and guides are in the bookshelf in the house as there is so much fantastic walking to be done without getting in your car. As well as fab days on the beach in summer, (when you can run back to the house to fetch cold drinks or food), evening swims are lovely. A peaceful swim, then straight back for a hot shower. Or another option is an early morning run ending on the beach, slip off the trainers and into the sea in the running gear. Drip your way home in a few minutes and hop in the hot shower!
Everything in Swanage is within easy level walking distance - shops, cafes restaurants, pubs, mini golf, tennis courts, (children's racquets at the house; bring your own balls) mackerel fishing, boat trips, boat hire, pitch and putt, children's playgrounds, crabbing, steam train, open-top buses, pier strolling, arcade, fishing, kite flying...and more! Wonderful day trips with the family to Corfe Castle (idyllic), Kimmeridge (fossils everywhere), Lulworth (castle and cove), Wareham (swimming pool, kayaking on the river, old-fashioned cinema), Tyneham (the lost village), Durdle Door, (iconic arch) Brownsea Island (Treasure Island with red squirrels and peacocks) and many more.
Please get in touch with me via the CONTACT HOST button to check on availability and exact pricing. This was the perfect house for our family to stay in whilst attending a wedding at studland bay house. So much space and the garden was wonderful. We loved the proximity to the beach for morning swims and the location was great
We were 10 women of a certain age, away for a girlie/swimming weekend.
The house was absolutely lovely and accommodated us all perfectly.
Beautiful location.
Would thoroughly recommend.
The property is ideal for an extended family. Loads of bedrooms, plenty of bathrooms - to save embarrassing morning queues - and a lovely, big mature garden. All this within a few minutes walk from a great sandy beach, and a few minutes further to a great traditional seaside town centre.
Beautiful house with an amazing location only minutes from the beach, swanage town centre & the costal path. The house had plenty of space and all the facilies we needed.
I recommend this house for a family holiday. The location is perfect for a walk to the beach, shops and the South West Coastal Path. The facilities in the house are wonderful for all ages. We had plenty of room for all of us and enjoyed fun games in the garden. The owner was most helpful and easy to contact. Having never been to Swanage before we all loved it and will definitely return.
3 generation holiday in Swanage. The property was ideal (and has lovely Edwardian features) as it was located within easy walking distance of great beaches and the town. The accommodation worked really well with the two reception rooms permitting Frozen II to play in one whilst adults could relax in the other ! The Aga was a source of many conversations...it proved a bit of a challenge but was fun.
Lovely house and garden with many original features, we could all spread out. Everything was supplied from waste bags to a warm Aga!
Close to beach and bay. Host supplied all the information required and what shops supplied all necessities and suggested places to visit.
Ideal for a family or friends get together. Plus we had lovely weather.
We had a very comfortable stay in this beautifully presented large family home. It was very well equipped and had plenty of space for everyone. The location is great with a short walk to the beach and town.

Lovely spacious and very comfortable house
Six of us stayed for a 5 day cycling get-together. The house could easily accommodate more and with 2 sitting rooms there's plenty of space to chill out. The house was very clean, nicely decorated and furnished, warm, and despite it's size, cosy. We loved it and are already planning to return.

Wonderful family holiday home away from home
We absolutely loved our stay at the White House. It is the perfect location for a family holiday. Our stay felt as if very kind, generous friends had lent us their house for our holiday. So many lovely touches of things available for our use: for example an extremely well stocked kitchen, wonderful stores of toys and games, lots of beach toys, lovely furnishings and all wonderfully bright, clean, tidy and comfortable. We were 6 adults and 5 young children, and there was plenty of room for us all.
For me, a good night's sleep is so important, and the beds are all very comfortable and even though the rooms have beautiful big windows, they are kept dark at night with blackout curtains. For those sleeping in the lighter room there are eye masks provided - such a lovely touch.
The table in the kitchen is large enough for all the adults to sit around comfortably in the evening and the outdoors table is great for kids dinners or evening drinks, looking out to the views of the hills. The garden was bigger than we realised it would be, with lovely flower boarders.
The beach is a very easy walk away and we loved the size of the entrance porch - perfect for dumping our sandy buggy and toys and towels and keeping the house (relatively!) sand free. We were two families, both with double buggies, and they both fitted in the porch out of the way.
Swanage itself is a fantastic holiday location. Lots of beaches, both within walking distance and others a drive away. Great walks, fun attractions in the town and further afield.
We will most definitely return.

Magical break in wondrous location and surrounding
We are a family of three generations who stayed in the property for three nights over a long weekend. We were given the warmest welcome by both Vicki and the house - I truly cannot recommend both enough!
The facilities and location were outstanding in every way. We loved the light, bright airy rooms and excellent facilities as well as the vast garden space and barbecue. The beach is a stones throw away allowing all to access it at day or night. We even managed an early morning swim!
The Steam train to Corfe Castle is a must activity and loved by all. Our short break was old fashioned memory making. We cannot thank Vicki enough for our stay. We truly cannot wait to return again very soon!

Outstanding property
Large party of adults (9) stayed at this Stunning house I can honestly say you will not regret staying here it marvellous.
The owner Vicki was very helpful prior to our stay.
We arrived at the house and from the moment you stepped inside you could not help but be impressed. Everyone was excited to explore. The house was gorgeous, spacious and we had the usual fight over the rooms, every room was such a good size. The main bedroom had a massive ensuite - this included a bath and separate shower enclosure with power shower, although there was another bath with a mixer tap and shower attachment in the main bathroom .
The kitchen was a lovely gathering place for meal times whilst cooking/eating meals - was slightly nervous of cooking at first, but absolutely loved the aga! Also amazing for when you want to warm up after your days activities.
The choice of two livings rooms meant we were spoilt for where to relax in the evenings some liked sport and others didn't.
The house is a short walk from the beach, and about Ten minutes from the main town/high street. The main supermarket is a Co-op which was short drive away in the town centre, or there was a corner shop within walking distance. There are loads of activities to enjoy and the local area is beautiful, Some great walks, bike routes, fishing trips, pitch and put the list goes on.
Our group absolutely loved our stay and would thoroughly recommend this property A holiday or even a long weekend, you won't be disappointed.
Now it's just a matter of time before we will return to enjoy once again.

Wonderful stay in a great location
The house was very spacious, well equipped, spotlessly clean and in a super location with no parking restrictions. The garden was a bonus for our family reunion. Easy walk to the seafront and town. Vicki provided excellent comprehensive information about the property and Swanage area. Very efficient communication by email. I would highly recommend this property for a family holiday.

Fantastic holiday house & great location
We are a family with four kids aged 7 - 3 and spent a wonderful week in Swanage.
The house is everything you could ask for and more - lots of space and light, great layout and exceptionally clean; comfortable beds, great kitchen with AGA and well stocked with beach spades, nets, etc and board games, kids toys & dvds for rainy days. Fantastic garden too for sitting out and eating as well as playing and mucking about in. A lot of thought and consideration has gone into the house and it shows. Superb and straight forward communication with owner made it very easy to make arrangements too.
Location is unrivalled - perfect to walk to beach and everything you could need in Swanage. Hours spent digging in sand, jumping waves, crabbing. We had a great time getting the steam train from Swanage to Corfe and visiting the castle - a kids dream day out. A very short 5 minute drive to the stunning beaches of at Studland Bay too. And lots and lots to do - more than a weeks worth.....
A truly restorative week enjoyed by all - we very much hope to return. Thank you

Gorgeous house in a great location
We loved our stay, you won't regret staying in this house.
The owner Vicki was very helpful prior to our stay and after too; we arrived at the house and had to explore as soon as we put our bags down. The house was gorgeous, spacious and we had to fight for our rooms, all were a very good size. The main bedroom surprised us with a massive ensuite - this was where the main shower was, although there was in in bath shower elsewhere.
The kitchen was a lovely communal area for cooking and meals - loved the aga! Also amazing for when back after a swim or walk to warm up.
The choice of two livings rooms meant we were spoilt for where to relax in the evenings.
The house is a short walk from the beach, which was ideal for us. The main supermarket was a short drive away, or there was a corner shop within walking distance. There are loads of activities to enjoy and the local area is beautiful, great to explore.
We absolutely loved our stay and would recommend for families or friends for a long weekend, I bet a whole week would be even better.
We are now wondering when we can go back next!

About the host
Hosted by Vicki Newman
We have been connected with Swanage for nearly 50 years as we have family there. I ran wild around the fields and beaches of Swanage when I was a child and my children have loved growing up partly in Swanage. Our house is equipped to a high level of solid, enduring comfort. People say they feel at home in it rather than being in a rental. We always hope other people fall in love with the house and area as much as we love it.
Why they chose this property
Our house is clutter free, calm, light, spacious, elegant, yet family friendly. It is very quiet with lovely views of Ballard Down - you can see silhouettes of cows on the top from the kitchen window. It has a big grassy garden for happy games or taking out the sun loungers with a cup of tea just to put your feet up in the fresh air. We have a magnificent 12 foot long outdoor table to eat out in the warmer months. It is a soothing and comfortable place where you can enjoy wonderful times with family and friends in a lovely, traditional, low-key way.
What makes this property unique
You can have a classic English seaside holiday in Swanage. Gentle and traditional, it is a marvellous place for families, for walkers, for more energetic watersports and coastal pursuits, for nature and for the pleasure of being in a spectacularly beautiful landscape.
