About this property

Honeysuckle Cottage - An idyllic spot to discover the North York Moors and Coast

One hundred and fifty years old, Honeysuckle Cottage lies in the sleepy and charming hamlet of Moorsholm, which has won many gold awards for its beautiful and well kept gardens - including 2016 Britain in Bloom Competition for the best Small Villlage - an accolade well deserved in such a pretty and well kept place.
The stonebuilt cottage has been lovingly restored to bring it back to life, after it was left empty and unloved for over 35 years - now it provides a cosy and charming atmosphere in which to relax and enjoy the fascination of the North York Moors and Coast, right on your doorstep - tread the tiny cobbled streets and alleys in the atmospheric villages which seem to cling to the coastal cliffs, or spend the day on the moors gazing for miles across the beautiful landscape. From grand country mansions to historic castles and ruins, from champagne and oysters to quirky tea rooms and the best fish and chips 'ever' - the selection is endless and there is something for every guest and member of the family.
Step into the cosy lounge with old wooden beams overhead and your eye will be drawn at once to the huge stone fireplace (found during renovation work) which surrounds the log burner, a must for those cold nights in winter (plenty of logs at the back door) while cosying up to toast marshmallows! Adjacent to the beautifully appointed lounge with muted Farrow and Ball tones, is the dining kitchen with ample room for 4 people to dine under the twinkling lights of the chandelier. The kitchen is well equipped with every modern convenience - washer dryer, dishwasher, microwave, electric hob and oven - literally a home from home.
Both bedrooms are found upstairs, the master kingsize room with its iron bedstead dressed in quality crisp white bed linen overlooking the pretty front garden where you can sit peacefully and enjoy the morning sun whilst sipping your first comforting coffee of the day and hear the clip clop of horses passing by. Whilst the pretty twin bedroom overlooks the decking area which catches the afternoon and evening sun - ideal for that glass of chilled white wine following a tiring day of exploring!
The bathroom, again on the first floor has a bath and electric shower with glass screen
The outdoor areas provide a pretty front garden and patio area for the early morning sun, whilst the decking area provides a suntrap to catch the afternoon and evening sun. A truly relaxing experience awaits all who visit Honeysuckle Cottage!

I moved into the area near the North York Moors about 24 years ago, and I only wish I had been here all my life - the Cleveland HIlls and the Moors and Coast provide a wealth of escapism from the demands of a busy life.

Why they chose this property

I found Honeysuckle Cottage in 2004, having been empty and neglected for 35 years the building was in a sorry state. The whole project took a year with many set backs and worries along the way - but the building blossomed into what it is today - thank goodness I saw passed that sad and neglected countenance - the building work revealed that it had originally been a one up one down property - and I am told by locals that there was a family of 10 lived in this space!!! I wish they could see it now! I am passionate about this building - I love its relaxing atmosphere and it never fails to delight me whenever I walk through the door to wait the arrival of guests, the majority of whom fall under its spell immediately, just like I did many years ago!

What makes this property unique

The North York Moors and Coast are famous throughout the world, as is the capital - Whitby - what is not so well known are the little nooks and crannies which are not tourist driven and offer a haven of peace and tranquillity - this is what delights me about the village of Moorsholm - its people must be amongst the most friendly you would ever meet, the community has a invisible glue which holds it altogether - the community spirit is amazing and as soon as you drive into Moorsholm, you will feel it is something special. There is a team of residents who work endlessly tidying, gardening and generally keeping all areas in such a pretty state - it is quite admirable. The Cottage allows you to step back in time to imagine what it was like to live in such a community, a time when people were only kind to one another - an ideal little world.
