About this property

Many perfect sunsets at the magical house on the lake

The house has a very open layout living room, kitchen and dinning flow into each other. There are 2 bedrooms, queen size bed in the lake-facing one and one queen and one twin bed in the other. From the bedroom and living room there are big sliding doors onto a large deck with amazing views of the lake with a large table, chairs, and sofa , there is another 3 tiered deck enow with a fire-it, grill ad lounge chairs. Two docks best to use dock to the right and a gazebo to enjoy the beauty of the Landscape. There are solar panels on the roof.
The house has 2 bathroom, one full and one half, there is a hairdryer, a washer and dryer in the basement. It’s a cozy cottage, great for 4 people ,
There is excellent WiFi and 2 smart tv. In one of the bedrooms and living room.
The kitchen has stainless steel appliances, and granite counter tops.
Coffee drip, keurig, nespresso machine, milk foamer, toaster, water keddle are on the counter top.
There is an iron and board (basement)in one of the large closets and hangers and plenty of storage space for clothes.
Heating and cooling is regulated with a thermostat and there are separate heaters in each room, central air conditioning.
The land around the house is beautiful with may areas to sit, benches and daybed, about an acre right on the water. A tandem kayak, paddle board and kayak is available for water excursions and there is a row boat that accommodates 4. I have life jackets, 2 adult, 2 children. There are 2 docks the one straight down from the house is very small , it’s better to use the one that to the right behind the gazebo to put the boats in or just hanging out at the water, there is a daybed right next to the dock, just below the houses at the water.
Parking is in front of the house and there is additional parking on a lot next to the house. The magic is in the light and the restful energy of the house. We do our best to use friendly soap and cleaning supplies that are kind to the skin anti-environment, it is important to us that the house is clean energetically and dirt wise. We care about sustainability and respect of nature and do not want to harm especially children or pets, that is why we use the least amount of poison possible to control pests. please forgive the possibility of a bug or an ant. thank you.
The house is very well located between New Paltz and Kingston, there are many amazing restaurants and stores, Woodstock and Rhinbeck are only a few minutes more or you can enjoy sitting at the water and chill.
I decorated the house with my art. Fabric sculptures and paintings.
The house is perfect for 2 and may be 5. The living room is small. The kitchen table pulls out. we have a small faucet at the kitchen sink that is drinking water from reverse osmosis.
The house is a cozy, comfortable home set on beautiful land overlooking the lake. It is located directly off State Route 213 in Rifton, a very small, quiet rural community with just a small cluster of homes and no local stores.
The driveway is relatively short and leads directly from the road to the house. Because of its location, the property is not completely secluded in the traditional sense. There are no neighbors immediately to the right of the house, and there is only one neighboring home on the left when facing the lake.
What may be surprising, however, is how private and peaceful the property feels once you are on the land. The house sits within its own natural setting, and the surrounding landscape creates a wonderful sense of space and privacy.
Although State Route 213 is nearby, traffic is generally light, and most guests do not notice much road noise during their stay. From the deck, especially while relaxing and taking in the beautiful lake view, the road becomes easy to forget. The experience from the deck is primarily one of enjoying the water, nature, and peaceful surroundings.
The house itself is not large, so it is best suited to guests who appreciate a cozy home and, most of all, the opportunity to spend time outdoors enjoying the land, lake, and surrounding nature.
The Sturgeon Pool. It is a quiet, scenic section of the Rondout Creek created by a hydroelectric dam. It is popular for fishing, wildlife viewing, and paddling, but it is not a designated public swimming beach, so the water is not routinely tested for swimming as public beaches are.

There are no known ongoing pollution advisories for the pool, but because there is no official swimming area, guests who choose to enter the water do so at their own discretion. The shoreline is natural, and water conditions—including depth and currents—can vary.
Swimming in Sturgeon Pool — Know Before You Go

Sturgeon Pool is a beautiful, quiet lake — mostly used for fishing and birdwatching rather than swimming, simply because parking and access are limited. That’s part of what makes it special: it stays uncrowded and undisturbed.

A few things to know if you plan to swim:

• It’s deep, and water levels change because the lake is managed by Central Hudson for hydroelectric power.
• Avoid the dam area — visible as the straight line across the water on the far side from the Lake House. Currents can form there when the dam is opened.
• Stay closer to the shoreline near the Lake House, where conditions are calmer and more predictable.
• Public water quality testing (Riverkeeper, NY DEC) for this site hasn’t been updated recently — that’s simply a gap in monitoring, not an indication of a problem. Historical results have consistently been fine, and I’ve personally tested the water almost monthly through the summer season for several years, always with good results.
• For algae bloom conditions, you can check New York’s HABs (Harmful Algal Bloom) map at on.ny.gov/nyhabs, which shows any recently reported blooms statewide. As a simple rule of thumb: if the water looks clear, skip swimming anywhere the water looks green, scummy, or paint-like on the surface.

Before swimming, we recommend doing a quick at-home water test — simple bacteria test kits are available online and give results in as little as 15 minutes. And you can check in with me, if you would like to know, my test result.

Swimming is at your own discretion and risk. We share this information as a courtesy so you can make an informed choice, but we’re not responsible for water conditions or quality on any given day.

The best part about this property is the outside. On a lake. Nice deck, nice side lounge area. Nice firepit. All looking at the lake. House is smaller than in pictures and older than expected but worked fine. Right off a road which I did not know from the listing. Hostes was great. I would recommend this place.

Cozy house to spend day by the lake. It would’ve been better to have more light by the fire pit area. Not easy to launch kayak as loading dock is very small. Driveway is narrow, can fit 2 cars(medium suv) maximum vertically. Poison ivys present in the backyard.

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback! I’m sorry that a few things made your stay less convenient. Regarding parking, while the driveway itself is somewhat narrow and comfortably accommodates about two cars, there is also a parking lot right next to the building with plenty of additional parking available if needed. For the kayak, there are actually two docks. One is quite small, but there is also a longer dock that is much easier for launching kayaks. It’s possible you may not have noticed the second dock, and I’m sorry if we didn’t make its location clear enough. As for the fire pit, there are lights on the deck directly above the fire pit area. I’m sorry if the lighting wasn’t obvious or didn’t provide quite enough illumination for you.

This cottage was smaller than I envisioned, but incredibly well appointed and efficient. Everything we needed was available, including pasta and sauce for arrival, a jar of the owner's honey, so many tea options, and a starter coffee supply for every method of brewing: Nespresso, Keurig, drip, French press, maybe even pour over... I stopped counting!)The outdoor dining and seating options nearly double the living space, and the views of Sturgeon Pool are extremely pleasant. I took advantage of the provided kayaks and spent several hours watching eagles,* osprey, herons, * cormorants,* turtles and beavers.* From the deck we also saw and heard a wonderful collection of birds. We planned this trip to visit the Hyde Park sites, but also spent a good bit of time in Kingston. We highly recommend Blue Duck Brewing and Ship to Shore.*see photos

Gisela's home was lovely! The view is unmatched, and for a small home, there's a ton of outdoor seating. My mom and I had a wonderful visit. We took a day trip to Mohonk Mountain house for lunch and day passes, and that was divine too. This is a beautiful area and the house was perfect for us. Thank you!

i am an artist and healer, i love creating in small and big ways. My magical house at the lake was a great pleasure to renovate and decorate. It is very important to me that is feels good, that the vibe is right and to honor the land and the elements. I travel a lot, but when i am home i live not far from this house.

Why they chose this property

This spot is amazing, the light at sunset, the lake, the edge of the water, the trees and the house is just so cozy, i am in love with it!

What makes this property unique

i love laying in bed at night watching the moon over the water, the moonlight reflected in the water. i love the sofas and the feeling of the house, there is something very simple and cozy.
