About this property

Saxon Shore Cottage, Burnham Deepdale, Norfolk

Located in Burham Deepdale, Saxon Shore Cottage is a large, charming, brick and flint home just a stone's throw from the North Norfolk Coastal Path. Elegantly furnished with beautiful period pieces, this hideaway also features fascinating memorabilia.

Location, location, location - tucked down a quiet cul-de-sac between the coast path and marshes and the bustling Deepdale Market with shops, petrol station, cafe and convenience store. It is just five minutes walk from The White Horse pub/restaurant and close to wonderful beaches, bird watching, sailing and golf. It is also just round the corner from the excellent Coasthopper bus service, so you can walk for miles along the coast path in either direction and then just bus back to your comfortable home.

The peaceful property is elegantly furnished yet still very practical and has a homely lived-in feel. The owner has gone the extra mile to share a real home-from-home, providing lots of extras and personal touches. The accommodation is very flexible, spacious and well thought-out, and will equally suit multi-generational families and small groups of friends - there are four bedrooms downstairs and a gorgeous self-contained master suite upstairs, complete with Juliette balcony.

The garden is laid mostly to lawn and a safe place for children to play. You can appreciate the sounds of the birds on the salt marshes nearby as you enjoy your breakfast or sundowner on the patio. It's also a ideal location to experience the winter skeins of geese flying over the house in their hundreds. From the garden and master bedroom there is a lovely view of Burnham Deepdale Church.

Lovely house, a bit tired round the edges

We had a lovely stay. There were a few small issues, but mostly because the house is a little tired - instructions need updating etc. The kitchen wasn’t clean when we arrived and the food disposal and dishwasher were blocked leaving an odd smell in the kitchen. We sorted that easily but wasn’t ideal to arrive to, and not everyone would have been able to. The internet went in and out over the week and I had to restart the modem several times - there were no instructions for this - not too technical but if you weren’t comfortable with technology it might have been a challenge. Since there is no phone reception or landline at the house this was a bit critical. The space in the house and beds were lovely though, and the garden is well kept and has a nice aspect. The house is unbelievably well located and all in all we had a really good stay and would stay again.

Thank you for your feedback following your stay at Saxon Shore Cottage. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Norfolk. I can see by your booking that you did mention the dishwasher issue during your stay which you managed to fix yourself, which is great but we could have sent housekeeping back round for you to do this so you did not need to on your holiday, but we thank you for doing this. In regards to the kitchen not being clean when you arrived, if we were notified of this on your arrival we would have been more than happy to send housekeeping back round to rectify this for you as we do like to be given the opportunity to make things right during your stay. All of our properties are individually managed by the owner and your feedback will be passed back to them to action anything as necessary. We are very pleased that you would stay again and we do hope to welcome you back to Norfolk again very soon! Best Wishes Norfolk Hideaways

Perfect Family House

All of us (3 generations) have spent a lot of time in North Norfolk over the years, so Burnham Deepdale was the perfect place to be based to re-visit a much-loved area. Saxon Shore Cottage did everything we needed, with plenty of spaces for us to be together or have our own space, a brilliantly kitted out kitchen (BIG enough pots, pans etc etc for nine!) and a real feeling that this is someone's home. We loved the fact that there was old, characterful furniture and rugs and some quirky touches. We wonder whether Ginny and Nick would consider putting a wee porch at the front door - nine plus sets of muddy shoes and boots in the hallway was a lots of footwear! I am trying to tick 'yes' to whether we would recommend the property to others, but it's not working so am indicating it here instead - absolutely YES!

Just like being in a Home from Home

We were 6 adults and 3 children and so it was a perfect fit for us, parking for 3 cars. We love this part of Norfolk and our stay was perfect in every way. The sleeping accommodation was excellent, every bed was comfortable and warm. Found the house too warm until we realised that the hall thermostat was set to maximum 30 degrees! so soon remedied. Kitchen very well appointed with all the gadgets we have at home and could wish for. We catered for ourselves as you would expect in Covid times and had no problem preparing even our Christmas Feast, one of us is a Chef and he was completely at home. Huge comfortable lounge over looking the garden, plenty of sofas and chairs to just crash out in. Literally just by the Norfolk Coastal Path so easy to burn off our extra calories too. Fantastic winter retreat, we've decided to try it again for a summer break next. Thank you Ginny & Nick, lovely to have met you.

Fantastic weather which made the break even better.

An ideal place to stay with lovely walks and local shops. The property could have been a little cleaner but it didn’t affect our stay.

Dirty house, rude neighbours but good location

The house was dirty on arrival - required self clean. Furniture old and uncomfortable. Dust clouds from sofas and beds. The oven doesn’t get hot enough to cook food - could only use grill and hob. Neighbours were extremely rude and unreasonable. Location is good with excellent garage shop nearby.

Saxon Shore Cottage, Burnham Deepdale

A pleasant cottage, ideally located for our party, with access to the Coastal Path. An enjoyable stay for all members of our walking group, and we look forward to another visit next year. The weather was good during our stay, and we were able to make use of the lovely garden. Being in a residential area, it is hoped that temporary residents show regard to their neighbours and moderate their noise and behaviour

Saxon Shore Review

We felt that the kitchen was not as clean as could have been expected - especially the fridges. A number of the drawers/wardrobes were full of the owners possessions so could not be used.

Poor standard of cleanliness

This was our 4th year staying at Saxon Shore Cottage. Unfortunately the standard of cleanliness during this stay was quite poor. On arrival one of the downstairs toilets had not been cleaned at all. The general cleanliness of the cottage was under par with lots of dust and cobwebs. In addition the house was infested with flies. Previous visits gave us no cause for complaint but sadly this time was dissapointing.

Review of property

The cottage was in a very quiet village, ideal for us. The accommodation was again excellent for our needs and we had a very good holiday there. However some areas could have benefited from a deeper clean ie cobwebs above the showers. Luckily this didn't spoil our holiday.

Dear Janet, Thank you for taking the time to complete the UpFrontReview following your recent stay at Saxon Shore Cottage. Your feedback is invaluable whether constructive or positive as without this we, merely the booking agents, are often unaware of the issues that may arise hence customer feedback being something we look at very closely. We have forwarded your feedback to the owner of the property in order that the issues you have highlighted can be addressed, as necessary. It sounds a deep clean for the property would make all the difference. Once again many thanks for taking the time to write to us and we look forward to welcoming you back to North Norfolk sometime in the future.

Great location

The house could do with a good clean (rubbish under the beds & a lot of cobwebs) and a de-clutter, especially the kitchen. The two fridges & some pans had to be cleaned before use. There was old food left in one of the drawers. One fridge still froze food probably because the door did not shut properly - door needs adjusting. Crockery was hard to reach. There was not enough food storage for nine people - we had to empty one of the cupboards to the garage. The recycling bin needs a new instruction label. In spite of all this we enjoyed our stay in Norfolk and would recommend this property with a caution.

We love this place

This was our 3rd stay at Saxon Shore Cottage. It has such a warm and homely feel with plenty of space for our family and friends to stay. We always have a fantastic time here and have just booked for next year. Our friends liked it so much that they too have booked for next year.
