Our house is furnished as a home, in a traditional English country house style.
Our house is furnished as a home, in an English country house style, rather than a minimalist, rental property, with a comfortable Harrington Spink bed. The house was built in 1830 and still retains the internal wooden panelled walls, fireplaces ( not in use)Original art work on the walls.
We have three rooms on the ground floor, as well as a separate kitchen. There are stairs up to the two bedrooms both light and airy. One faces south and overlooks the garden the other faces the road. There is a bathroom upstairs, with a 6’ bath and the downstairs bathroom has a shower. The conservatory room has fully folding doors opening onto a paved, south facing garden, which has a bistro table and chairs and bench seat. The house has a galley kitchen next to the garden room. There is an oven, a four gas hob, microwave , dishwasher and washing machine. As it is a home that we rent out I do leave the basics ready for guests ( washing powder, tea, coffee, sugar, spices, that sort of thing) The house is full of paintings it is very much a traditional, small English terraced house. We are 250m from Battersea Bridge, and Chelsea Yacht and boat club. We are two minutes walk from the Thames Path, a broad promenade that stretches for miles in either direction, a wonderful place to explore on foot, or on a bike, which you can hire from a nearby docking station. There are plenty of riverside restaurants, cafes and bars and regular piers where you can pick up a river boat taxi, to whisk you further upstream. Battersea Park, is a six minute walk away, along the river, which has a lovely lake, boats for hire, cafes, an adventure play ground, with high rise tree walks, a zoo, tennis courts and glorious garden walks. We have three river taxi stops nearby, my favourite is the one on the far side of Battersea Park, which runs every half hour. ( First stop, the Tate Gallery) you can buy a day ticket and spend a very enjoyable day visiting all the sites along the river, it’s a great thing to do on your first day in London.
The bus stop, just before the bridge, has buses that will take you to the museums, in Kensington, the shops in King's Road, High Street Kensington and Knightsbridge ( Harrods ), the theatres in Piccadilly and Covent Garden and Buckingham Palace. Getting to Gatwick airport, via Clapham Junction, a nearby hub, ( also a short bus ride away ) takes half an hour. Heathrow is forty minutes, on the underground, from South Kensington. If you prefer to walk, we are a gentle 20 minute walk from three underground stations, Sloane Square, South Kensington and Gloucester Road. Chelsea Harbour is a 15 minute walk away, notable for its design centre for anyone interested in home design. There is also a relatively, newly opened overground station called Imperial Wharf, in the Chelsea Harbour area. Re overground/National rail stations you can get to Victoria Station in 10mins on a 170 bus ( northbound) or take the same bus from a stop in Battersea Church Road and you will be in Clapham Junction in 8 mins, which is a main hub for rail travel, if you want to go to Strawberry Hill or Hampton Court, Windsor …..
Please be aware that the garden room is not heated and therefore not suitable as a dining room during the winter, instead we use a small table in the middle room to eat at.

I am so sorry that you did not contact me during your stay about the black out curtain, there is a screen, for the window, between the wardrobe and the wall. I could have fixed the problem for you if you had asked. What a shame, I am sorry.
Comfortable property close to Battersea Park and the River
The location was great. We enjoyed walks along the Thames Path and Battersea Park which are only a few minutes away. The Uber boat (15 minutes walk) is a great way to get into central London. The property was well-equipped and comfortable for a family of four older and younger adults.Denise was a communicative and helpful host.
From the moment we booked Denise was always responsive to questions in a very timely manner. Checkin was simple thanks to Denise’s directions. Lovely well appointed home- especially the kitchen. My husband especially appreciated great shower pressure! Great information available on local sights, shopping and getting around. Denise checked in with us during our visit to insure we had all that we needed. We would book this home again.
What can I say? Denise was such an incredible host. From the moment we booked in, Denise was sending us information about great local walks, places to visit and details about her home and neighborhood. She was super accommodating when we had an early flight. For 3 women traveling together, this was the perfect charming English experience. Amazingly comfortable beds, provisioned with all the basics that were appreciated (laundry detergent, tea & coffee etc), a supermarket and bus stops within a one minute walk. We absolutely loved our trip and would highly recommend Denise’s charming home.
Denisse was a generous and responsive host! Her home was charming and quirky, though be warned those who are fans of minimalism might find the decor to be suffocating or overwhelming. Also note the kitchen is functional but wouldn't suffice if you were planning to do extensive cooking. We loved the sun porch and spent most of our time there. We also loved the location - lovely coop grocery store within walking distance, close walks along the river and in Battersea Park, and major London sights all accessible with a little walking or bus/tube connections.
This is a wonderful place.
We stayed a week and really appreciated the owners attention to detail and very nice furnishings. It's just across the Battersea bridge and there are busses departing nearby for just about everywhere including the major tube stations.
Nice neighborhood with good restaurants and pubs nearby.
We had a great time in London! The townhouse had everything we needed and was nicely located near restaurants and grocery. The bus stop was just around the corner for easy access to get up tourist locations. Denise, owner, was very responsive to any communications.
We really enjoyed our stay in London, host had us very organized and checking in was very easy. Location was great and close to a beautiful park, and bus/boat taxi stations. Super easy to get around.
We found it could be a little noisy at times from the airport and street traffic, but would book again in the future.
This cozy, charming home in a quiet, convenient corner of London was the perfect perch for a family exploration of London. Having two comfortable bedrooms and two bathrooms allowed everyone the space to unwind after a busy day. Amenities such as the washer allowed us to travel lightly. Our hostess was extremely responsive and helped ensure that our trip was a success.
This two floor townhouse has a lot of charm. I loved the doors that open to the courtyard. It is located near a grocery store and several restaurants and the bus stop. The owner has notes in the house to provide direction and suggestions. She was great about staying in touch prior to and during our visit, if needed. I would highly recommend this place to a family or business traveler!

I am so pleased that our guests enjoyed their stay.
Denise’s cottage was idyllic and cozy.
The neighborhood feels safe and is active with work traffic being close to the bridge.
My 20 yr old chose this spot for its location and the budget. She did well finding this lil gem. Appreciated the comfortable beds and especially loved that the linens were cotton, thank you!
It has a great local coffee spot around the corner, gourmet grocery nearby, a coop up the street. great sunset walks along the Thames & Battrrsea Park.
We stayed for 35 days this summer and enjoyed every day being able to come back HOME to Denise’s house! The conservatory was a great place to have breakfast and read the paper in the morning! And we loved relaxing in the living room, surrounded by antiques, when we returned at night. The kitchen was amply stocked for daily cooking. Denise was above and beyond reachable and helpful. The house is walkable to a bus stop, which was a launch point to get us everywhere we needed to go! The neighborhood is super safe, close to a beautiful park, yoga studios, and two grocery stores! We would definitely return!

Location location !!
The location is great with nearby stores, parks, transportation and restaurants. But there are the little things like the broken gate, everywhere in the house are scented oils almost to cover up the smell of something else. The house is rustic with unfinished wood work everywhere. Its not quite finished. Internet and streaming is great while storage seemed a strange and interesting what you might find.

I am glad you enjoyed the fast internet and appreciated the location, stores, parks and restaurants,
Sorry the little front gate to the garden was stiff, but we will get right onto it and oil it up.
You were quite right Larry, I used my two new Jo Malone diffusers, birthday gifts,….. as we put down new cream carpets last week and I am not keen on the smell of new carpets. 😁..
The pine panelling in the hallway, is natural wood, I think more commonly described as Georgian rather than rustic and it was finished, in 1826.
We do advertise the house as a home. I do leave all of the closet space in one bedroom empty for guests and only keep one hanging area, out of the three spaces, in the second bedroom for our stuff, but I appreciate your input and shall put a note on that cupboard marking it as private.
My husband and I loved staying in this townhome. We found it to be the perfect location that was convenient for walking in Battersea Park, along the Thames, or to the bus stop. We also loved all of the beautiful artwork, antiques, and personal touches throughout. The bed, made up with beautiful linens, was very comfortable. The residential neighborhood was very quiet at night. We were out sightseeing daily, but had dinner at home every night. Great kitchen that had everything you would need to cook a meal. Denise was a delight to work with. Communication with her was excellent, she thought of everything to make us comfortable. We highly recommend staying here and we would definitely stay again.
Our family of 4 (parents and two daughters, 25 and 21) had a great week at this well-located and well-equipped house. Most of central London is within 15 to 45 minutes by walk, bus and/or Tube, and we also had an easy time using rail from the nearby Clapham Junction station for several trips farther out. Lots of good pubs and restaurants, coffee shops and markets within a few blocks. The house is well stocked with kitchen and bath basics and London guides, and emailing with Denise was easy. There are two floors, so probably not a good choice for someone who has serious issues with stairs, but assuming that's not an issue, we recommend it enthusiastically.
Great lication but property in need of repairs and maintenance. I reached out to Denise, the owner and explained how disappointed we were. She was very understanding and offered to cancel at no charge. However we had already unpacked and purchased our self catering supplies so to find an alternative at short notice and move would have been too hard. This was part of a 7 week trip to Europe so we had a lot of luggage and were tired after our all day travel the previous day so we elected to stay and Denise arranged a partial refund. The beds were comfortable and sheets clean, we mainly ate out and the location if the property was great with direct bys access literally outside the door to go to London Vic or Clapham Junction train stations, a coop at the end of the street. Just a shame it was in need of maintenance and was quite worn looking.

Yes, you are so right, the house does need a coat of paint on the front windows and I was planning to do it this autumn. I was also sorry that the front gate was wobbly, as you know I did try to get that fixed while you were there but was sadly let down by Manuel.
I am glad you appreciated the linen sheets.
I can so imagine that arriving in London, with a lot of luggage, could have been stressful, after a two week cruise around the Norwegian fiords. I really do hope that you enjoy the rest of your tour, in Europe.
Best wishes
Denise
I would stay here again. The location is in a neighborhood just across the river from Chelsea and Kensington, with a grocery store nearby, safe and well cared for area, located two blocks from the primary bus stop, although coming home immediately in front of the flat.
The home (yes, it is the host's actual home. She travels when it is rented) is comfortable and has all the conveniences. Not once did we feel uneasy about being in Denise's home. The 2-story flat was clean, dust-free, roomy, and comfortable for a family of 4 (parents + high school & college daughters).
Denise often reached out and we were in touch in advance of and during the stay. She offered accommodations we did not expect, and we were grateful for them.
Denise is a gracious host, clean & comfortable flat, and a great fit for us!
This quaint English townhome was in a great location: short walk to the local Co-op, restaurants and transportation. The Battersea park was about a mile away and was such a treat to walk through every day. The home has everything you need to make you feel at home. We love to cook, so, having everything including spices was terrific. The home is on the flight path to Heathrow, so, the airplanes are heard each morning around 6 am until around 9:00 pm, however, we got used to it quickly.
We also loved to look up through the glass ceiling in the patio to view them. The owner Denise was FANTASTIC! She was attentive to any need we had. Oh, and we had a little visitor each morning: a little fox would enter the garden in the back and peek in the French doors to say hello. :-)

I am so glad you enjoyed your stay …. We love Battersea Park, how lucky we are to have a 200 acre garden, with a lake 500M away. Looks like the wildlife, from there, came to visit!!
Sorry about the planes but with six major airports surrounding London there are a lot of flight paths. Glad they didn’t disturb you…
Gosh! We were delighted with our stay at Denise's home. My daughter (22) and I spent 9 nights there and it was wonderful. Well stocked kitchen with lovely things to prepare meals (we only made breakfasts and snacks); close to a co-op to pick up odds and ends. Bus stop around the corner that we used to easily get to central London and other various points. Excellent area for walking as well, just along the river and into Battersea Park, but I also walked into Chelsea/Sloan Square. Beds are very comfortable with lovely linens. Neighborhood felt very safe even at night, no issues. Denise is great--very communicative and helpful. This is clearly a home, so if you are looking for a sterile, boring rental property, this isn't for you. If you want a lovely charming home for your stay in a neighborhood close to the center with a fabulous host than this is it! Would not hesitate to stay again.
This was the perfect location for our 11 night stay. The house had all amenties that we needed. Denise answered all questions in a very timely manner and even dropped off a replacement hair dryer for us. My husband loved reading in the sunroom with the back sliding door open. We even saw a cute fox in the back garden. We bought groceries at the co-op a block away and made breakfast every morning before heading out to the nearby bus stop which took us to most locations in London, and connecting tube stations. There was great wifi, water pressure in the shower and a very comfortable bed with beautiful linens. Even though the weather was unusually warm, there was a very nice cross breeze in the house when we had the french doors open in the bedroom which kept us comfortably cool in the evenings. The decor was cozy and the perfect representation of a traditional English home.
For our family - parents and two daughters aged 21 and 24 - this traditional English house was perfect and had everything we needed. We stayed here for a week. A beautiful home with plenty of space. A well equipped kitchen with well stocked cabinets. Having two bathrooms was a big advantage, not to mention the free wifi. The beds were very comfortable with quality linens. Lots of beautiful paintings and photos in every room which was lovely! Having a small private garden was perfect and we even saw a fox there. The neighbourhood is nice, quiet and very safe. The location is great and it is very easy to get around (bus stops close by and riverboat piers and tube and train stations within a 30-minute walking distance). There is a Co-op grocery store down the street. Keeping in touch with Denise was very easy. She answers to your messages very quickly. She is an excellent host and she sent us many useful tips before we arrived. We highly recommend staying here. Thank you, Denise! We had a lovely holiday!
The property owner (and resident) is very nice, easy to get in touch with and was very helpful and accommodating. The beds and linens were comfortable and clean. It's very close to buses and the river. The property itself is very old and rickety and needs a good deep clean and some work. It was very hot when we arrived and even after opening all the windows and turning on the fans in the bedrooms, the house would not cool down and with all the windows open you could hear the airplanes and traffic. It was also unusual compared to every other VRBO we have rented, in that all the owners personal items were still in the residence as if they were still living there. So I would not recommend this house if the weather is hot (over 24 degrees) and if you mind the owners things all being there. The property is a bit cluttered with pictures and one piece of art in the garden room was a bit iffy. I learned I need to ask more questions before renting as I really don't like living in someone's main residence. I should have asked so that's my fault. We were all very unhappy (4 adults) for the first several hot days. Our mood changed a bit once the weather cooled down and we kinda got used to the place.

Yes, I agree, reading information about properties is vital!
The first sentence states that, " Our house is furnished as a home, rather than a rental property, in a traditional, English, country house style.
Our home is a Georgian cottage (pre 1840) . We have the original pine panelling in two of our rooms, usually much admired but to a modern day American I can understand that the patina of 180 years may might appear worn.
Our walls are hung with paintings, in an English style. As the word "iffy" is not a term usually used by art critics I can clarify that my guest meant that the picture is an original painting of a semi clothed female, exposing one breast. The rest of the paintings are original Victorian watercolours depicting classical and pastoral scenes.
I take note of your comments and I shall enlarge my description to ensure that only guests who wish to experience traditional English furnishings and pictures visit.
I am afraid that I cannot help with the fact that London is a large city surrounded by nine airports and air traffic noise, is a problem in London.
It is unfortunate that my quests experienced a heat wave, I do provide umbrellas as those are needed more often than fans!
About the host
Hosted by Denise
I am a prep school teacher, in a local Catholic boys school, where I have taught for longer than I care to admit to.......I moved around Europe, as a child, as my father's job took him to different countries, I have rusty Italian, German, Spanish and French........ My partner is lucky enough to own a rustic... Very basic.... barn, built of straw bales, where we can retreat to, leaving me able to rent out my London house, during the school holidays.
Why they chose this property
I have lived here since 1990, I find it the most perfect place. I love London, its energy and space. We are right in the centre of the action..... King's Road, Knightbridge, the 1960's hey day... Yet in the hub of all the recent river development. The riverside walk, which is 100 yards from our house gives up opportunities for long walks or cycle rides along the river, plenty of restaurants and cafes, a five minute walk to Battersea Park, with its boating lake, extensive gardens and best of all the new river boat taxi , which carries you speedily through the centre of London, from the West End to Dock Land, enabling you to jump on and jump off to galleries, theatres, historic buildings and lively markets. Or just sit on the boat, have a coffee from the on board Costa, and view the major sights from the comfort of your catamaran. The air is good as there is usually a wind coursing down the river. The area is safe. A local supermarket at the end of the road , next to the fashionable pizza, restaurant, Bunga Bunga. Our favourite restaurant a short walk over the river is The Ivy, which has a fantastic garden to eat in as well. Our house has a secluded garden, a rarity in London, and a garden room with bifold ing doors allowing lots of light and fresh air. It's a small Georgian terraced house, ( circa 1820 ) , a traditional cottage, used to be called a two up two down. The walls are hung with watercolours. ( not an ultra modern house) It is quiet, unless there is an east wind, and then we do hear some planes coming in.
What makes this property unique
Quirky, close to the river, not overlooked. For someone who wants to enjoy a traditional Engish country house style, not for the lovers of minimalist houses that are solely used as a rental property.. We have a secluded, paved garden, overhung with greenery and shaded by a palm tree.
