Needs updating
Property ok
I feel the main bedroom needs a updating. It’s dull and old fashioned.
The bookcase Is in a sorry state and the room would benefit from having a dressing table.

This cottage has all the home comforts and more.
This cottage has all the home comforts and more. It was lovely and warm when we arrived and very cosy. There are a number of restaurants very close by as well as The Peak Shopping Village. The beds were extremely comfortable with fantastic views out of the window as in most of the windows on the cottage.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful location.
Lovely cottage in a beautiful location. Well equipped kitchen though could do with a new fridge. Heating has a mind of its own so the cottage was extremely warm, though some will like this. Very comfy bed. Only space for 1 car. Bike shed needs to be cleared if it’s to be advertised as a bike shed, it was very difficult to get 2 bikes in!

Lovely cottage very cosy and in a great location for being near Chatsworth.
Lovely cottage very cosy and in a great location for being near Chatsworth.. Great local shops for Christmas shopping and takeaway in Matlock delivered one evening.
Parking was a bit tight at the back of property for 2 vehicles.
Could have done with a supply of wood for the fire as only one burnt peice available. I understand we had to buy more if needed.

Great base to explore the area with Matlock, Buxton, Chatsworth, Bakewell and all the other hamlets within easy reach. The cottage is on a very busy road (double glazing helps with the road noise) and visibility getting out can be difficult. On the surface it is a very pretty cottage, but IMO it would benefit from a good clean and a lick of paint. The small bedroom is quite tight for access and my kids got quite frustrated with it... But we all slept well on the very comfortable beds. Owner was nice and friendly offering ideas about where to eat (Shallimar, Darley Dale fish bar 2 good options).

A cosy and comfortable cottage which is handy for many attractions.
A cosy and comfortable cottage which is handy for many attractions. There was only two of us and our dog and the cottage was the right size. There are two further beds to extra people and would perhaps be a little cramped for four people. The is an enclosed area at the back to let the dog out if you have one. The “real” fire is welcome during the cold autumn period although the house has very efficient central heating. Kitchen well equipped with a washing machine. Bathroom clean and new. Bedrooms a little dated and perhaps need a bit more TLC. The nearest supermarket for food is a few miles down the road in Darly Dale. However for an old 1800s built cottage it was comfortable.

Dove Cottage was a really lovely place to stay.
Dove Cottage was a really lovely place to stay. The cottage had plenty of room, the kitchen was well equipped, the living room was comfy and the Sky TV (incl Sports) was really good. There was free wifi (slow) but to be honest it's more about being in a good location for the Derbyshire dales and peak district. 5 mins from Chatsworth, 10 mins from Matlock with loads of National Trust and English Heritage sites.
Would definitely stay again

Dove Cottage was a perfect base for our first holiday in Derbyshire.
Dove Cottage was a perfect base for our first holiday in Derbyshire. Comfortable, supportive beds, fluffy towels, lovely living room and a well-equipped kitchen. Although I was surprised to find no fewer than six oven gloves but only one teatowel. Good to find an apron, which holiday cottages often don't offer. There was a washing machine but we couldn't find a clothes airer, so we made creative use of the stair gate! The weather was very warm so we didn't need to use the open fire, which was a shame as it was tempting. More thorough hoovering of furniture is needed to remove cobwebs from bookshelves and dust from less-used chairs. But overall, it was clean. Location is wonderful, although it's a shame there isn't a grocery shop in the village offering more than the Post Office, which has limited offering and opening times. Nearest good shop is Spar and Co-op in Darley Dale. But Dove Cottage is only a stroll from the Peak Village shopping centre (Cotton Traders, Mountain Warehouse, general clothing, cashpoint), good eating at the Grouse and Claret pub, and bus stops to Chatsworth, Matlock and Bakewell. It's good to have a parking space at the back of the house. We used public transport a lot (it's frequent and relatively inexpensive) and got discounted entry at Chatsworth and Heights of Abraham (Matlock Bath) on production of a bus ticket. There is an excellent network of footpaths in all directions from the door leading to varied places such as the Nine Ladies stone ring (3 miles) and Haddon Hall (1 1/2 miles). There are footpaths to Chatsworth and Bakewell if you want to hike longer distances. We enjoyed our stay at Dove Cottage and would recommend it to others.

Lovely cottage, great village location in the Peak District, ideal base for exploring the fabulous unspoilt towns and countryside. All rooms decorated to a high standard. Only suggestion would be to take some picnic chairs with you as the garden furniture is a bit spartan.

Great location for the Peak District.
Great location for the Peak District. Appreciate we visited towards the end of the summer season, however agree with previous guests the cottage needs a deep clean along with a few maintenance issues. Was ok for our weekend break as we only used it as a base & were out every day, but has so much potential!

We were visiting from Canada for a family wedding nearby and as our UK family are somewhat scattered we were looking for a location that was central and picturesque. This cottage hit the nail on the head. The location was fantastic. The cottage was so well equipped and comfortable. We all loved it. And I especially loved the cottage garden. It is what I strive for at home but unfortunately Canadian winters can make it tricky. The owner was so helpful with the queries that we had and so responsive. Would really love to visit here again next time we are in the uk

The cottage was in a really good location to Chatsworth, Bakewell and Matlock.
The cottage was in a really good location to Chatsworth, Bakewell and Matlock. Lots of walks can be done from the cottage. The Outlet Village and local pub are just a 5 minute stroll away. The parking space at the back of the house was handy but a bit tight. The cottage was lovely and warm and we could control the heating without any restrictions. The only downfall was the cleanliness mainly in the kitchen and bedroom. Skirting boards, lampshades, back of the bed all very dusty. I’m sure after a really good deep clean this can be cured as otherwise a cosy cottage.
