Fantastic location, so enjoyed seeing variety of small birds in trees from house then, red kites & buzzards souring around each morning as we stepped out of the cottage. The cottage was probably the best ‘doggy cottage’ we have stayed in over the last 10 yrs. Was very comfortable, clean & fulfilled all our needs. It had true character wished we’d been able to stay longer.

Marwhin Cottage is at the end of a long poorly surfaced single-track lane, but the house itself is great. Comfortable, warm and homely, although the lounge chairs could be better. Everything we needed was supplied and in good order. We had a problem with the central heating boiler, but it was sorted quickly with a phone call to the helpful key-holder.The cottage is well located for local attarctions - we visited the lovely Threave Gardens and Nature Reserve and Caerlaverlock Castle. Despite keeping a lookout, we didn't see any red squirrels, but we did get a view of the Northern Lights one night.

Superb cottage, must be the fourth time we have been, highly recommended, lot of local wildlife seen from the picture windows, Red Kites, Red Squirrels, Pheasants, Partridge, Roe Deer and various other birds / mammals etc.
Always clean and tidy, plenty of fire wood for the chilly evenings.

We were looking for peace and quiet and a couple of days away from it all and that's certainly what we got, we had a lovely few days at Marwhin Cottage. We were lucky with the weather when we were there, so were able to enjoy the garden seating area and the wonderful grounds.
The only thing we had to watch (aside from the escaped Highland cow on the drive one day!) was that the estate is shooting estate, there were lots of young pheasant wandering around, so just needed to be careful with our dog.
Not too much within walking distance but Dumfries and Castle Douglas an easy drive for supermarkets etc. and there are small shops/newsagents in nearby villages, but it was perfect for what we wanted for the long weekend we were there.

A beautifully appointed cottage, ideal for a break away from everything. Would have no problem in recommending this rental and will consider it in the future or even the next door house for a bigger family gathering

The Cottage was really lovely the location was fantastic.
The Cottage was really lovely the location was fantastic. Cannot fault the Cottage with regards to comfort or location.
However, it was not as clean as other properties we have rented, there were stains on the cushions and crumbs in the kitchen cupboards. The kitchen could do with the addition of a few more basics, a set of scales, more mugs etc.

Lovely, comfortable cottage in an absolutely beautiful setting! The cottage had everything you could possibly need and was very comfortable. It is slightly islolated (which is exactly what we wanted) and the surrounding area is beautiful. Lots of days out to surrounding places and a day spent by the fire, reading and relaxing.
Someone else stayed in the cottage next door... but we didn’t see them and it was private.
Would definitely recommend ( pictures don’t do it justice).

Great cottage, roomy with very comfortable beds.
Great cottage, roomy with very comfortable beds. Really beautiful location and the owner/caretaker was lovely. Only negative is that there could have been a few more mugs and coat hangers would have been useful. That is being picky though.
