Aloha and welcome to Menehune Shores Condo 520!

Enjoy the ocean breezes in our fifth-floor, oceanfront condo. While we do not have artificial air conditioning (AC), refreshing trade winds typically flow naturally through the unit. The only approved condenser location would occupy the private lanai and release heat that would make this favorite outdoor space far less enjoyable, so we’ve chosen to preserve it for dining, relaxing, and taking in the spectacular ocean views. Whether you are staying for a few days or a month, you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable and memorable stay.

Our two-bedroom, two-bath condo features a fully equipped kitchen, in-unit washer and dryer, Smart TV, Wi-Fi, and a private lanai where you can enjoy both sunrise and sunset. Ocean views can be enjoyed from the kitchen, living room, and makai (oceanside) bedroom. You'll also have access to the rooftop deck—an ideal place to barbecue, take in 360-degree island views, and watch for Maui's famous "green flash" at sunset. The condo also includes cable television and complimentary parking for one vehicle.

Menehune Shores is a beautifully maintained, oceanfront complex with lush tropical landscaping, a heated swimming pool, and direct beach access just steps from the elevator. You'll enjoy the convenience of being right on the ocean while remaining only minutes from Kihei's restaurants, shops, and local attractions. Menehune Shores is also hotel-zoned, meaning it is exempt from Maui's pending 2030 short-term rental phase-out and will continue to offer legal vacation rentals.

Kihei is the perfect home base for exploring all that Maui has to offer—from the summit of Haleakalā ("House of the Sun") and the rolling landscapes of Kula to world-class snorkeling, surfing, and windsurfing. Visit historic Wailuku and ʻĪao Valley, drive the breathtaking Hana Highway with its 57 bridges through lush rainforest, or simply spend your days relaxing by the pool and enjoying the ocean just outside your door.

Overall a great stay! Affordable and a wonderful location. Only downfall was how hot the unit got without AC. We were expecting the windows open and ocean winds at night would cool it down a bit but even with all the fans, it still was around 80 at night (same as during the day) in the condo. Not the hosts fault because they did advertise accurately just something to know if you are used to AC! Wonderful little beach for kids and if you need an affordable place to stay and are used to warmer weather, this is a great spot.

Spent an amazing week at this awesome condo! Communication with our host was great and thorough. Tons of extras inside the condo (cooler, towels, frisbee, beach chairs) to make our stay extra comfortable. Everything was very organized!

Condo was in great shape, super clean, wonderful location and fully stocked with all the basic (and not so basic) necessities. Appreciate having beach towels, chairs and sand toys as well as laundry detergent, paper products and basic toiletries.

Property was as nearly exactly as described in the post and the perfect launching point for our Maui trip! Almost anything we needed was quick drive away but some places could be walked or biked to easily. Pool was refreshing after days at the beach. Owners were very accommodating with a late check-out b/c of a late flight departure!

The view of the ocean from the balcony was gorgeous. I loved watching the birds and listening to the waves in the morning. The condo could definitely use some updating, including air conditioning. In order to stay cool the windows and doors had to be left open, but the wind would cause doors to slam, items to fly off of counters and walls. Lack of AC seemed to contribute to the moldy smell of the washing machine which left our clothes, smelling moldy, despite keeping the door propped open as instructed and promptly putting clothes into the dryer. Some areas of the ceiling was peeling, possibly due to the humidity. There are no fans or no working fans in the bathrooms and the vents were moldy inside. The bath off the master frequently plugged up. The shower in the other bathroom floor was stained. The garbage disposal was not to be used. The appliances could definitely need some updating. The condo doesn’t really sleep six; the pullout couch in the living room was extremely uncomfortable, sagging in the middle with a mattress that was very thin. Even folded back up, the couch was still very uncomfortable to sleep on. The smoke alarms were not on the walls. On a brighter note, the pool is nice. The property manager and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Although the owner forgot to send the code to get into the condo, she did respond promptly when I reached out. The location of the property is great; just a quick drive to beaches, restaurants, and shopping.

Thank you for the pictures, they are very helpful. I suspect the smoke detectors is in a drawer somewhere. I will reach out to our on island person. Sounds like I need to have discussion with our cleaning person regarding tub and shower AND washer. We provide the washer cleaner packets and the washer has a cleaning cycle that has to be run as often as needed, again a cleaning issue. The complex is in the process of getting a new roof so sounds like we will have some ceiling repair once the roof is finished. Because the drains each serve 6 condos we sometimes get slow drainage due to problems in unit below us. Because of the shared drainage system, the association asked that you minimize garbage disposal use. It is ok to rinse the crumbs off but all larger food waste should go in the trash. We provide enough trash bags for your stay that you can dispose of trash everyday. Thank you for being such a great guest. I agree with you on hide a beds. We replaced that mattress less than 2 years ago. Vent bathroom systems are built into the walls and are also shared with 6 units. Sorry mother nature gave you too much wind. This condominium was our father's home. Now his daughters and granddaughter continue to love this condo. The surfboard on the wall is his granddaughter's first and is very special to her. She is currently working in Florida, so not spending much time in Maui. The sisters get to come spend time occasionally. We hope you enjoy our condo as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

Kihei is a great location with excellent beaches and parks as well as shopping and restaurants. It is located across the isthmus from Kahului and the airport - close enough for convenience, far enough to be away from it all.

The unit has a comfortable layout with great ocean and beach views. It is surprisingly private for being part of a small resort. There are the small conveniences of in-unit laundry, trash chutes so you don't have to haul trash to the ground floor, a book exchange on the third floor, as well as the big items - the rooftop deck set up for barbecue-side dining while enjoying 360 degree island views and the best sunset in town, lovely pool and grounds, the trade winds, and of course, being RIGHT on the water without crossing the highway.
