Stained glass and leadlight feature windows with polished timber floors embellish a creative and serene ambience in light filled interiors. A large rear deck overlooks the fully fenced and private yard with lush lawns that is ideal for families and bar b ques. LOCATION
This original cottage is located on Shirley Street and backs onto the quiet charm of Shirley lane. It is one of the most convenient positions in Byron Bay and is sometimes overlooked as being one of the closest streets to the beach in all Byron Bay. A 200 metre stroll through coastal forest brings you to a less popular section of our beautiful north facing beach where if you walk west towards Mt Warning you enjoy miles of serenity and tranquility. Walk east towards the cape and main beach is about 400 metres. A perfect walk for breakfast in town or walk a little further to Clarkes Beach and the Beach Cafe for Australia's ultimate breakfast location. Then just keep walking and swimming - all the way to the Cape. What more can I say - " You will love it here " " What a life! "
THE VIBE
Byron is a buzzin' . All year round. The markets, the shops, the creativity, the restaurants and pubs and the awesome live music scene. Music is everywhere. Art is everywhere. And it is all inspired by one of the most sensational landscapes in the world.

House had everything we needed and was clean and homely. Great location and only a short walk into town. Host was very communicative even though he was in Europe. Loved our stay and would book again. Great for families.
Easy walk to the beach, shops and bars (tho the street is busy and hard to cross against traffic at times).House has a lovely beach vibe with a wonderful back deck and small lawn.
Lovely comfortable cottage - fully equipped and clean and easy walking distance into shops and main beach. Having back garden was great for bbqs- Shirley street is busy fortunately traffic dies down overnight so didn’t affect sleep. Parking in lane off Shirley lane easy- hosts great communication.
We had a great stay in Byron Bay, the house was as advertised. Great location, very clean and Peter the manager was kind and accommodating. Definitely would stay here again.
The property was all that we wanted comfortable, clean and located close to town. Our host Peter communicated clearly with us providing concise and clear instructions on all relevant aspects of the property. We will certainly consider returning should we visit Byron Bay in the future.
Great long weekend in this beautiful quirky house. Beach and town centre within an easy walk. Byron was very wet and windy, but we were comfortable indoors. Loved the stained glass windows in the property.

And most welcome to come back they are!
Best guests!
The house was great, spacious enough for a family of 5 (3 grown kids), awesome location, with Byron at your fingertips.
We all loved our stay & will be back
Great property in all aspects - spotless and clean, comfy beds, and thoughtful amenities (cooking oil, decent kitchen knives, house and area info). Loved the location - 5 mins to beach, 5 mins to town. Buddy our labradoodle enjoyed the stay as much as us - especially the off leash dog beach. Peter was always helpful and communicated in a courteous and welcoming manner. The outdoor shower was used by all. We can’t wait to return. Thank you.

thanks for nice review. Well trained pets and respectful owners are welcome upon application as was the case with ‘Buddy’ who left no sign of his presence.
Loved this stay, loved everything about this property! Location, vibe, cleanliness, communication with owner. Everything we couldn’t fault it! Loved the separate areas in the house worked well for 2 couples and a child ! Plus it’s such a perfect little beach shack! Amazing! WERE DEFINITELY COMING BACK 😇❤️

We are happy with those ticks ! Thank you , you are so welcome anytime.
We love our Summer holidays in Byron and like to try different homes and locations to stay. We loved this classic ‘old school’ Byron beach house because;
1. We can take our dog ❤️
2. So close to town, beach, walk everywhere
3. The back deck and bbq area was fab👌
4. The outdoor hot/cold shower ☺️
5. Good ol’fashioned sprinkler that provided hours of entertaining for the dog & teens!
6. As the kids get older we spend more time eating out and exploring so like to spend a little less on accom. We find this place very well priced in comparison.
7. Peter was very welcoming and on hand for anything needed. Thank you Peter!

Thank you ... we love it there too and we love good pets and considerate owners.... pet stays are only approved after consultation.
This property, whilst in a very convenient location, was a huge letdown. It smelt awful. The pillow protectors were stained. The bathroom showers and vanity taps had mould and scum around them and had obviously not been cleaned. The floor was sticky because it had not been washed. The broom was full of long dog hairs. The drier filter had not been cleaned, disgustingly dirty. The kitchen sink was not clean. You could smell the stink of putrid urine throughout the house. Outside, the deck and table had not been cleaned. The key ring, my goodness, it was so filthy we had to take the keys off and then we washed the keys clean so we could use them. Entering at the front door was very unfriendly because the lounge seating was placed too close to the front door. The owner even confronted us and said he didn’t want us to stay. He told us to find somewhere else after having driven from Sydney! We did enquire but during this high season of COVID holiday rentals, it was impossible. Prior to our arrival the owner informed us that we couldn’t start our holiday on the day we had booked, after we had paid the full amount mind you, because he had over booked for that day. He did offer an extra day at no cost but we decided not to take up the offer in the end as we were so upset. Overall it was a very, very bad experience.

Please read other reviews... this was the most horrible guest personality I’ve ever experienced... I immediately offered them a full refund at start to go but they wouldn’t ... at least I didn’t hear from them again after buying a set of new pillows .... the old ones weren’t that bad.... and as for all those proclamations... well what rubbish ! It’s unfair that horrible people can write horrible things like this .... I wish them a happier more contented life for the future
Peter's beach cottage was a fantastic property for our family Christmas holiday. The house was clean and cozy, with ample space for us to settle in for a full week (with Christmas presents) and the back garden and patio were a perfect spot for breakfast or evening bbq and drinks. It's a 10 minute walk town and the main beach via Shirley Street or the Byron Street bike/footpath behind the property, with reasonably easy access in and out of town by car with off street parking lot in the laneway.
Peter was a great host, checking in to ensure we were settled in and quick to respond to messages before and during our stay. Would absolutely stay here again the next time we're in Byron.

It's OK, but question the value
At premium (well maybe COVID premium) pricing it was not of the standard you'd normally anticipated at this cost.
The manager (host) was very helpful and fixed issues very promptly etc.
But be aware that the property is quite dark, there is no 'storage' for bikes/boards/etc - the typical toys brought on holidays. Major issue is that for a property with 7 beds the dining table takes only 4. The outside table could take 8, but in winter cold wet weather forced us (5) inside.
I'd out this overall at the quite basic level of property, bringing one back to the value. Oh yes, bring a bread knife if you like to buy uncut loaves of bread.

Please read other reviews...Our rate is competitive... please do some research ..pictures show exactly how the house is .. we love it ! It is a humble well maintained clean home in the midst of town. Of course I’ll get a new bread knife - no problem . I responded to Richard’s urgent requests immediately. I knew at the time there was no way I’d please him. I couldn’t understand why the 4 seat dining was his MAJOR issue ... there are extra 3 place settings at servery breakfast bar from kitchen . Once again ... look closely at the pictures before you finalise booking so you know exactly what you’re getting and feel free to communicate any queries with me
About the host
Hosted by Peter Jackson
My wife Jen and I had the good fortune to grow up in this beautiful area. We love it! The beaches, the surf, the hills, the people, and the homes. Outdoor, active and social living is our passion.
Why they chose this property
This home is so close to the Beach. And it is a few minutes walk to town. It is on the busy Shirley Street and so is most of Byrons holiday accommodations. Not many of them have a big yard and a garden to yourself anymore. It is a ideal holiday accom where you will not have to drive... to the beach or the restaurants and cafe scene.
What makes this property unique
We relish the classic old homes and have a passion for restoring them whilst maintaining the old school charm of the era. Come inside and see for yourself. It has been evolving in our possession for 20 near years now. It is the best it has ever been. We love it!
