The house is very private and sits on 14 acres. The owner Dan was great and answered his phone every time I contacted him. The west entrance to Yosemite was a short drive from the house. We are thinking of going back out in a couple of years and would definitely stay there again if we do.
Very private and quiet. Comfortable and clean. We enjoyed our stay and loved the proximity to the valley and Hetch Hetchy. The loft was perfect for our teens. Could very much use some new pots and pans.

Hard to get into cabin
Views are nice and location private. Close to Big flat oak entrance. However difficult to find and challenging instructions to get the keys for property and gate. Carpet needs replacing. No air conditioning so very hot during our trip.

awsome location, but space to improve
first things first, we really enjoyed our stay at this cabin. it was super close to yosemite national park and the cabin had everything we needed.
but, there were some things we did not like and some we would have liked to know in advance. for example did the host send us an extra contract we needed to sign one day before we got to the cabin. why did we not get this the day we booked it? now we did not have the possibility to not sign it.
the place is advertised with wifi, but we were told not to stream anything. that is absolutely fine, but a nice to know when you book a place.
it was also advertised with one and a half bathrooms, but there was only one.
the "laundry room" was so dirty, that a dropped shirt needed to be washed again.
the garbage for plastics in front of the house was so full, that we hardly could add anything, the fireplace was not cleaned and the burned wood made the cabin smell very smokey, ...
and two incedents happend that were unfortunate, but added to the experience.
the first night at 3 am the battery low alarm of a smoke detector started to beep and there were no exchange batteries to be found and the water pressure was so low that we could not take a shower after we used the washing machine. later we timed it better and used the dishwasher or washingmachine in the morning and showered in the evenings.
the host let us now that he would like to send someone to fix the problem when we were already on a hike and could not let anyone in.
when we left the cabin for good the owner told us he came and fixed the pressure problem.
i think it would be a good idea to update the description on vbro so everyone knows what to expect.

Response from VrboOwner on 6 Sept 2023
Hi Corinna, the homeowner has asked us to share this response:
- We are glad that you enjoyed your stay overall! The peace and quiet of the location make it a perfect escape.
- We're sorry that the smoke alarm battery ran out in the middle of the night; that was very unfortunate timing. We replaced it with a five-year battery and left extras in the battery box.
- We apologize for the issue with water pressure as well. We had just replaced the entire system, so we were surprised to hear there was an issue. It was inspected right after your checkout, and it turned out the valve on the filter inlet was almost completely closed. It was an easy fix, and no recent guests have had any problems with water pressure.
- We also have a brand new water heater and septic system. We realize Secret Meadows Retreat is far away from “civilization” so we take maintenance seriously.
- The washer and dryer are in the basement, which has a bare concrete floor. It was dirtier than usual because of some slight flooding during the water pressure switch replacement, but I will instruct the cleaning crew to include this floor as part of their cleaning process.
- The satellite wi-fi works well, but we get charged for excessive data usage, so we ask guests to watch their movies through our DISH TV system rather than online.
Thanks for your feedback, and we are glad that you had a good time!
We loved our stay at Secret Meadows Retreat!
The grounds are beautiful and we didn’t see another soul for 4 days.
The location is perfect for exploring the park.
The property manager allowed us to check in early, but there is a fee to do that.
Highly recommend this place if you want a peaceful getaway!
I really enjoyed my stay at this peaceful cabin close to Yosemite Valley. It was spacious, clean, equipped with everything you may need and wasn’t close to other homes so you could have total privacy. The owner was very helpful with directions and instructions and I knew he was available if I needed anything. I would definitely come back one day.
The house is located in a large private property with plenty of space to walk around. If you long for privacy and care about the distance from others, it is your go-to place. We were able to visit Yosemite and Heche Hetchy in a short drive. We had pretty everything we needed to make it our temporary home with a fully furnished house. Meanwhile, the host is super friendly and responsive.
We had an amazing stay! The location is wonderful, making you feel like you are in the midst of nature, away from civilization. The house is super clean with a rustic vibe. The owner was so helpful and kind. We will definitely return!

Yosemite getaway
The house is nice and in good location. Very close to Yosemite entrance. It is comfy and has everything we need.
We loved the location of this property, 6 miles to the Yosemite park entrance, very easy access into and out of the valley at the end of the day. The house was a perfect location and had everything we needed for a great trip! I would recommend bringing groceries, only because the town is 15 minutes away and after a long day of hiking it was nice to come home and not have to go out again. The wifi connection is very easy to use for social media/ email/ Spotify connection- and the hosts do proactively communicate that the wife usage is not strong enough to download / stream movies or shows. There is cable and a DVD player. This was not a problem for us but saw other reviews that mentioned the wifi.
This was a perfect spot to explore Yosemite. It allowed us to get into the National park and exit daily befor our group started their John Muir Trail through hike southbound.
The property was located in a very quiet and private setting spanning acres of land. Furnishings were comfortable and the spacious deck was perfect for morning and afternoon relaxation. Thr owner was very responsive and accomodating. We highly recommend it for a relaxing family getaway.
