Friendly Cottage on Oceanside, Bailey Island is now available for your seaside vacation, no matter the season. This well-insulated cottage, heated and cooled by solar and geothermal systems, is appealing during the less - crowded brisk Maine springs, the lazy ocean-breezed days of summer, the colorful crisp days of fall, or the quiet peaceful days of winter.
Friendly cottage is on the east side of the island with an unhindered view of Casco Bay and spectacular sunrises, and sits on a secluded beach at the dead end of a quiet neighborhood.
Yet, the cottage is in walking distance of the local general store, post office, a non-denominational church, several local eateries including the famous Cook's Lobster House as well as Mackerel Cove, the hub of the fishing and boating community. Entertaining and socializing has a comfortable flow in this 3 bedroom-2 bathroom home - perfect for family get-togethers, reunions, special events or simply a nest to enjoy the Maine experience. The nearest shopping centers are in Brunswick (13 miles away and a 30 minute drive). Stopping at a grocery store before you come to Bailey Island might be more convenient, although there is a general store with limited supplies.
Friendly Cottage is an excellent example of a home built with many innovative technologies including solar hot water panels and geothermal, just to name a few. If you are considering building an energy efficient home with all or some of these technologies, come for a stay!

This was our third visit to this well designed, well built, and beautifully situated cottage. We found the kitchen to be well equipped, and the property was very clean overall. The only thing that I would ask for in a future visit would be a larger TV.

Great house, off the beaten path, but so quiet and such a great view with amazing space. The Fish Net Cafe was great as was the Lands End Gift Shop. We love the area and had an amazing stay!! Eric was a terrific host, recommend this beautiful place.

We absolutely loved our time at this property! We've been able to stay on Bailey Island for a number of years and the view from this home can't be beat. The bedrooms are very good sized--better than the pictures--and quality of the building materials, cabinetry, etc. is solid and beautiful. The house is VERY well-stocked! Great kitchen supplies, beach towels and chairs, good bath towels and a convenient washer/dryer upstairs. We loved starting our early mornings drinking coffee in the Adirondack chairs out front, just marveling at the view, then taking the short, woodsy walk to Cedar Beach. The location was very convenient--easy to walk to Mackerel Cove or the general store. Eric and Laurie were great, responsive hosts, though we really didn't need a thing. Hope we can return!

Beautiful home with great views of the ocean from inside and out. The house was comfortable and very clean. Outside spaces were beautiful, loved the Adirondack chairs where the lawn met the ocean, well landscaped with lots of flowers, and the table and chairs next to the grill also had a great view. Loved exploring the small beaches you could walk to right from the house.

The hosts were very helpful and easy to work with. The house is beautiful with a great view of the ocean and a small beach you climb down to. The house was very well maintained. The kitchen is well equipped, the bedrooms spacious, and bathrooms updated. We highly recommend this property.

This was our second year renting this cottage and we already have reserved it for 2 weeks next year. It has everything we needed for our stay, including everything needed to cook lobsters! (A lot cheaper to make your own than ordering at a restaurant). My favorite activity was sitting on the red chairs overlooking the ocean and reading a book. There were lots of other things to do that were more active, but I really liked relaxing while watching the lobster boats go by. I also loved the comfortable temperatures and listening to the ocean at night.My husband and I did venture off the island a few times to play golf and took a ride up to Rockland. We also enjoyed eating out at local restaurants, particularly the Dolphin and Cooks. Most of the time we ate breakfast in the cottage ( thank you, Eric, for the brand new coffee pot). We did go out to the Fishnet Cafe a couple of mornings ( great breakfast) and I would gladly have eaten a lemon scone from the Salt Cod Cafe right over the bridge every morning!Already missing the island and looking forward to next year’s stay.

The description and pictures of this property did not do it justice! The views from the primary bedroom and living room were stunning. All of the furniture was extremely comfortable and every room was not only spotless, but beautifully decorated. Bailey island is small but has everything you could possibly want. We spent our afternoons exploring the area which included many cute little coastal towns all within an hours drive. These communities do a fantastic job supporting local artists - so you get a very unique and friendly experience everywhere you go. 10/10 would return!!

My family and I had a wonderful, relaxing stay at this beautiful spot. The best feature was the amazing ocean view from the living room and primary bedroom. Just a short walk from the door and across the lawn takes you to the water's edge and your comfy Adirondack chairs to take it all in. The cottage was clean, spacious and tastefully decorated. The kitchen was well-equipped if you are looking to make your own meals. There were also plenty of board games and some DVDs. Be aware that the few restaurants in the immediate area are closed Monday/Tuesday, at least at the time we were there (late May). Brunswick and Bath are around 30 minutes drive for more dining options. Our friendly hosts Eric and Laurie were always available if we needed anything, but we didn't since everything was great! Wish we could have stayed longer!

If I could only vacation one place for the rest of my life it would be here. This was our first family vacation with our 2 and 4 year old and it really set the bar high. The drive to explore Portland, Freeport, Brunswick, and Boothbay Harbor were easy and worth the trip, but our favorite days were spent exploring Bailey Island. The Giants Stairs were our favorite! Everyone in the Smith family was amazing and incredibly helpful with suggestions of where to go and what to do. The house and amenities were as described and beyond. There really was everything you could possibly need and it was very family friendly. The towels for the house and the beach were great. The toys and games were all together. The house is beautiful and inviting with unbelievable views. Everyone we encountered going for walks, going out to eat, stopping at the local stores were so kind and friendly. The pride they take in their home and cottage is evident and we hope to be back!

Many years later they got married and raised their three children; Brooke, Megan and Mason on the same property that Eric grew up on and that you're staying on now!
