The Space:
Salvage of a Mornington Peninsula Beach Shack
MP Cottages was originally a humble beach shack that has now been tastefully restored into the charming cottage it is today. The cottages boast elements of its original features, including Tasmanian oak floorboards, combined with contemporary features that include a modern kitchen and bathroom.
A Quiet Family Holiday or Romantic Get-away
The Starfish is best suited for small families or couples. It is only a flat 250m walk to the beaches of Port Phillip Bay. Families and their pets play in the shallow water of the beaches. It is in a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood, where locals and visitors are living in the same pocket.
The Space
The home has plenty of space with an open plan living area, comprising of kitchen, living area with TV/DVD, Chromecast. There are split systems AC (heat/cool) in the living room and 2 out of the 3 bedrooms. The kitchen has a dishwasher, cook top, fridge/freezer, mixer with water filter and oven. It has a total of 3 bedrooms. Two bedrooms have a queen bed each, the third bedroom has 2 singles. They all have electric blankets and portable heaters for cold nights. The living room has a bi-folding door access to the deck and private courtyard. There is an outdoor hot/cold shower at the back of the cottage which is very handy after a day on the beach. It has a bathroom equipped with a large walk in shower, washer and dryer. We supply soap, shampoo and conditioner. We also provide detergent, a drying rack and clips for your beach clothing.
Private Courtyard Fully Fenced
There is plenty of space for your children and furry friend to run around and play while you sit and enjoy the sunshine from our large deck and courtyard. The courtyard can be viewed from the living room, through its 3 meters bifolding doors which can be fully opened up. You can also access the kitchen from the deck through its serving window. It has 2 meters high brush fence all around for your privacy. The courtyard is 150+ square meters in size with room for some father-son footy! There is a set of outdoor dining furniture for 6 and BBQ on our deck; and a fire pit for your family to gather around on a cold evening.
Family and Pet Friendly
For children we also provide high chairs, bowls, cups, toys and books. There are also DVDs, board games for the family. For your furry friends we provide a bowl, a blanket, a towel, a brush and some toys. We don’t allow pets getting onto our furnitures. We use vacuum cleaner with allergy filter to remove animal hair as much as possible.
Full Linen and Professional Operation
Full linens is provided (towels, bed linens, pillows, blankets, quilts). The place is professionally cleaned, inspected and prepared before each stay. We learn your time of arrival and switch lights, AC/fan on prior.
Vehicle and Boat Parkings
Our premise is fully fenced with onsite parking. There is a corner car park which is flat and measuring 16 meters by 16 meters. It has a 3 meters wide vehicle gate which comes with a coded padlock. It has 1.3 meters high fence along its street facing boundaries. It has space to park at least 4 vehicles, or your boat, jet ski and kayaks. Our cottages are also fully fenced from the street and car park with 2 meters high brush fence. Your privacy is our priority.

The Starfish is located in Rye, Victoria. It is just 250m from the Rye bay beach, a flat 800m walk to nearby shops, cafes, supermarket and restaurants. It is one of 2 side-by-side cottages on the premise.
Update 22/3/2018: We completed upgrades including improved sound proofing, mixer with water filter, outdoor lighting, portable heaters, iron & ironing board, plus many small enhancements, addressed our guests’ feedback.

The Neighborhood:
The Starfish is located in Rye, Victoria. It is just 250m from the Rye bay beach, a flat 800m walk to nearby shops, cafes, supermarket and restaurants.
It is in a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood, where locals and visitors are living in the same pocket. Local laws have quiet hours strictly enforced (see house rules). We're close to the Peninsula Hot Springs, golf courses and wineries.
Getting Around:
There are buses from Frankston train station but our cottages are best suited for self driving travellers. There is plenty of onsite parking fenced and off street.
Other Things to Note:
We don't rent to students group and will not allow for parties nor schoolies. We don't rent to parents who book for their children to stay, which violates the insurance which protects our guests.
** PLEASE NOTE: if guests get locked out of the apartment, we may be able to help with spare key but we will have to charge a service fee for the time and delivery (pending availability and distance). After 8 pm and on the weekend, rates may go up. If we are not able to help, it will be the guest’s responsibility to call a locksmith at their own cost. **
