About this property
Tiny house steps away from the Tasman Sea
Welcome to the Surf Nest, a unique getaway experience steps from the Tasman Sea with the magnificent Mount Taranaki and its ranges as backdrop. This architecturally designed, award-winning guesthouse offers you an escape to unwind and recharge. Only a 10 min drive to Ōkato, 20 min to Ōakura and 35 min to New Plymouth, it is close to everything, yet feels remote. Enjoy the simplicity of waking up to the sound of birds and waves with a view on private surf breaks. It doesn't get better than this!
The space
This compact 33 m2 one-bedroom unit utilises cleverly crafted spatial devices to pack a lot of punch into a small place without compromising on the scale of the living areas. It is designed to have a small environmental footprint and sit in harmony with the natural landscape. Thoughtfully fitted out with quality modern interiors and furnished to a high standard, the space is modern and comfortable.
a) Inside there is:
• A queen bed with luxury bed linen and stunning view on surf breaks.
• A full-sized bathroom with a toilet and shower, and hot water of course.
• An open plan, well-equipped kitchenette with a mini-fridge (including a small freezer), kettle, toaster, electric frypan, electric cooktop, sink and cooking essentials (cutlery, crockery, chopping boards, etc.). Note this isn't a full kitchen, it's a kitchenette for basic cooking only. There's no oven.
• Free fast and unlimited Wi-Fi.
• A desk and lounging area on the mezzanine level, including a wall-mounted smart TV with streaming services like Netflix, etc.
• The unit is well insulated. There’s also a heating panel for chilly winter nights.
b) Outside, there is:
• An outdoor (covered) large deck with outdoor couches. We also provide a small folding table and chairs for outdoor dining and relaxing.
c) We supply:
• Coffee/tea and sugar
• Olive oil, salt and pepper
• Ecostore NZ shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand wash
• All bed linen, towels, dish cloths, and cleaning products
Guest access
The Surf Nest is located in a rural area and we advise guests to have their own vehicle. There is no direct bus or public transport to the Surf Nest.
At the end of the public road, you will find a gate giving you access to our private community. Follow the gravel road down to the Surf Nest.
The Surf Nest is located next to our family home (4 metres apart). Guests share a driveway and deck with our main family home but will have complete privacy and sole occupancy of their unit. You can probably see us every now and then going about our day.
We are happy to assist our guests. Please get in touch if you need anything.
Other things to note
Please note some areas of the property are still being landscaped and occasionally you might see us and/or gardeners out and about on the property.
If you don't want to eat out much, we suggest you bring a few food supplies with you but please don't expect to be able to cook a five-course dinner. The kitchenette offers basic cooking equipment. See section above for what we supply. There is a range of large supermarkets on route from the airport and a small supermarket 10 minutes’ drive away in Ōkato and all main supermarkets in New Plymouth. Countdown and New World offer delivery here.
Access to the mezzanine level is via an alternating staircase. It is not suitable for young children and some people with physical impairment or disability.
The beach in front of the house is not a sandy one, it has big rocks/boulders. Very fun to walk onto at low tide. Some 'pools' are even created at low tide if you fancy a dip.
