About this property
Luxury Rose Covered Cottage
NOTE: BEFORE SUBMITTING A BOOKING REQUEST IT IS ALWAYS BEST TO SEND US AN INQUIRY WITH ALL YOUR QUESTIONS SO YOU CAN MAKE SURE THAT THIS IS THE PERFECT PROPERTY FOR YOU BEFORE YOU BOOK IT!!
Above dunes and beach roses. Romantic and charming, totally rebuilt in the 1980s and fully updated (skylight/vaulted ceilings/recessed lights). Beautifully furnished with quality antiques, lovely bed linens. 3 minute walk to the beach, perfect for honeymooners/couples sleeps 3. Gorgeous perennial gardens. A very photogenic property...Featured in Cape Cod Life Magazine, on postcards, on the cover of the local Nantucket newspaper, and a picture of OUR cottage was one of 12 large scenes featured in a calendar for Cape Cod and the Islands. We have some of the best competitive prices for the Island and the best off season rates. Long weekends available in early and late off-season.
Also note that because our property is away from Nantucket Town proper you will need to think about transportation to our house particularly in the off-season. As a result, you should figure out transportation before booking our property. While there is shuttlebus service that stops one block from our house (check with Nantucket Regional Transit Authority for precise dates of operation and confirm the bus makes stops in Sconset for the dates and times you are interested in) renting a car, Uber, bikes, or cabs are also options and you should contact the Nantucket Chamber of Commerce to get better information on using any of these modes of transportation. Also note that bus service outside of the higher season months runs less frequently so check out the schedule if you are planning on using this mode of transportation to make sure it works out with your plans. You can also bring your car over on the Steamship out of Hyannis but you must make reservations with the Nantucket/Marthas Vineyard Steamship Authority. If you plan on using the Steamship Authority to bring your car over, make sure you have checked with them regarding availability as well as cost before booking our cottage.
Note for weeks where we require a 7 day minimum stay (Memorial Day to October) (we book Saturday to Saturday) we do not book additional days beyond the 7 day minimum unless your request is for an additional 7 days (in other words we don't accept 10 day stays for example) during this time frame.
Because we are located on an Island, travel to the Island may be impacted by weather or mechanical issues if you are traveling by boat or plane. This is something we have no control over. If this is a concern of yours, it is our understanding that VRBO offers trip insurance. Although we are not familiar with the terms of this insurance product and if it would cover travel related issues, it is something you may want to check on when thinking about booking a trip to Nantucket.
Cleaning cost ranges from $100 to $200 depending upon condition cottage is in when cleaners arrive! Please call for hints on how to reduce cleaning costs if you are interested.
The key to the cottage is kept in a lockbox. Instructions for using the lockbox will be provided to you prior to your visit.
Rates are periodically changed to reflect market conditions.

About the host
Hosted by Craig Campbell

The owners, Craig and Gretchen Campbell, reside in Marblehead, Massachusetts when not out on Nantucket. We are both environmental attorneys living in a 1652 antique home near the ocean on an historic street called Gingerbread Hill! While Gretchen is originally from Marblehead, Craig is a displaced Texan who is still pondering how he ended up with two houses near the ocean and not on 50 acres in Montana near a trout stream!
Why they chose this property
When we were first married we honeymooned on Nantucket. Of course we had to see Siasconset (Sconset) during our visit and we fell in love with the charming small rose-covered cottages Sconset is famous for. Years later while vacationing on the Island, we were walking in downtown Nantucket in the pouring rain when we stumbled into a local realtors office to dry out. One thing lead to another and the next thing we knew we were the proud owners of "Barque"! (Believe me it turned out to be a lot more complicated than it sounds!) This is our only vacation home and we treat it as such with many personal touches unlike many of the generic rental properties on the island. Unlike most of these charming small cottages in Sconset, ours was totally rebuilt in the 1980s and has modern amenities not found in many of the other cottages in this area.
What makes this property unique
There are two paths down to the beach from our cottage ensuring a three minute walk in either direction to the beach. Although our yard is small, we have lovely perennial gardens for you to enjoy when the season permits. While the house is small as well, it is beautifully decorated with original paintings, antique oriental rugs, china trade accents, custom barn board cabinets in the kitchen and faux burl hand painted cabinets and woodwork in the bathroom. The slipcover on the queen size sleeper sofa in the living area (Pottery Barn) changes periodically.
