Town: Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Lovely, well appointed property that was very clean. Amazing views from the balcony. Parking would have been awkward if all the flats were occupied. A fantastic stay, all in!
Excellent stay, beautifully appointed accommodation, everything needed was provided, very clean, warm and cosy. Loved the views and the fact that in warmer weather you could have the patio doors open and sit outside on the balcony, perfect. The only downsides was parking, if the other flats are occupied, fortunately they weren’t for us, but it would have been a real squash had they been and the steps down to town - very steep for less than agile fit people, but the walk round the road was more gentle and still quite a quick way to and from town.
The flat is comfortable with wonderful west facing views. Very close to town centre. Good hikes in various directions from the flat. Lake is a 15 minute walk. Lovely holiday destination.
Parking is tight so bring a small car (my Mercedes A class was the limit - smaller would be easier).
Ambleside is a really nice place to stay in the lake District, with good road links to everywhere as it is quite central. Additionally it is a vibrant town with plenty of options for places to eat, or just to relax with a drink. Lots of nice shops too, if you're not up in the clouds all day!!
And Top Notch is in a really great location, just a very short walk (25m down some unlit steps) from the town. I will certainly be looking to come back here again.
Accommodation was absolutely fine for me and my two adult lads - they were happy enough to share a room, and there was plenty of space for everyone.
Two bedrooms: 1 x king-size, 1 x twin. Bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC. Kitchen. Living/dining room with gas fire
