Dove Cot is a lovely characterful cottage in a beautiful setting.

Dove Cot is a lovely characterful cottage in a beautiful setting. It and the secure garden with a larger grassed area beyond was perfect for us and our Labrador. The cottage has a comfortable king size bed and modern bathroom. It’s on the main road between Ambleside and Skelwith Bridge but isnt noisy at night. There are some minor maintenance issues eg dud and flashing spotlights, broken oven knob and loose kitchen taps but nothing to spoil our enjoyment. The microwave oven is not straightforward and there didn’t seem to be any instructions but luckily we came across them under some books in a basket in the sitting room. Unfortunately we aren’t familiar with LG tv’s and Sky being Virgin customers. A few simple instructions on how to locate the on screen Freeview guide using the handsets would have been much appreciated especially as it was two days into our holiday before we managed to work it out. That said we would happily book to stay here again.

Quirky little cottage

Had a lovely time at the cottage and owner was very friendly and helpful. I wouldn't say the cottage comes under the heading of "luxury" - it's more for couples with a dog or two that can roll in after a muddy hike without having to worry about staining the carpets, sofa etc. The sofa is (still) really uncomfortable by the way but the bed was lovely and comfy and we didn't notice the traffic from the road too much. We slept really well! There's (still) quite a few (little) things that don't work - cooker hood, light bulbs etc as is mentioned in previous reviews so the maintenance man finally needs his P45! The exit from the driveway out on to the main road will please those who are "adrenaline junkies"! And there really needs to be some sort of window covering in the bathroom, even if it is frosted glass. The WiFi was really good and fast enough which is a real plus! As it was freezing, damp weather, the cottage was unable to display it's full potential! We didn't go out the back garden but we could tell by looking out the patio doors how absolutely lovely it would be in the summer! So, on the whole, a nice stay. We'd definitely stay again but preferably after the new maintenance man has been round! Many thanks! ps we definitely wouldn't book through VRBO again, the website was absolutely dreadful, the checkout process was painful and full of errors!
