About this property
Ashdene Cottage with enclosed ‘sun trap’ garden
Beautiful traditional slate stone cottage located on the outskirts of the bustling little village of Staveley, nestled between Kendal and Windermere. It is just a short 5 minute walk into the heart of Staveley where the picturesque River Kent is joined by its tributary the Gowan. The footpaths along the rivers are wonderful, and in good weather there is great paddling for children! The front path leads up to an enclosed front porch which is very handy for hanging jackets and storing muddy boots. The hallway has oak flooring and leads to the living room which has a cast iron wood burner (you can buy wood at the Spar or the nearby garages) and 2 sofas which comfortably seat 5-6 adults. There is a good 32” Smart TV including Netflix and also a DVD player with an extensive choice of DVDS. The kitchen diner has fitted units with integrated dishwasher and tall fridge freezer. There is a dining table set up with 4 chairs but you will find additional chairs in the under-stairs cupboard which also stores a hoover, ironing board, high chair, baby bath etc. A utility area adjoins the kitchen through a door where we have a washing machine for your use and there is also a downstairs toilet and sink. Bedroom 1: Master bedroom with king size bed to the front of the house with solid oak furniture Bedroom 2: Double bedroom to the front of the house Bedroom 3: Twin bedroom to the rear of the house Bathroom: brand new suite including walk in shower Garden – the front garden is fully enclosed (great for dogs) and is south facing so it’s a real sun trap all day. There is outside seating to enjoy all the sunshine! At the rear of the house, there is a stable door which leads to a terraced area with plants and shrubs. All of the house apart from the cupboard on the 1st floor landing which is access to the loft. – We can be contacted by email, phone or text A short 5 minute stroll into Staveley village conservation area where you'll find the most excellent Staveley chippy, quirky cafe 'eclec', the Post Office, well stocked SPAR store and the excellent Hayton's traditional butchers. Turn into the 19th Century historic Mill Yard and you'll find many thriving craft, foodie and mountain sport orientated businesses including; Wheelbase Cycles, the Blind Chocolatier, Hawkshead Brewery, More? artisan bakery (and yes, you will want more!). Tucked away you'll also find the brand INOV-8 (hike & fitness) 'forge' flagship store. Fields, farms and fells and long views to surrounding crags and scars providing an attractive rural backdrop! Staveley village is the only access point to the Kentmere Valley and the classic ‘Horseshoe Round’ which can be done in a day! At the opposite end of this compact village you'll find Kimi's gelato (hard not to be enticed by the stunning flavours), the cosy Eagle & Child pub and the very well equipped Staveley children's playground. This ultimately residential and post-industrial village has so much to offer for families, hikers, mountain bikers, road cyclists and fell runners alike - who want to avoid the main tourist centres, yet still have everything the Lake District has to offer literally on the doorstep. Staveley has excellent transport connections (M6/A591) and is served by the 555 bus connecting Lancaster, Kendal, Windermere and Keswick! Staveley railway station is on the Windermere Branch Line connecting Oxenholme (West Coast Mainline) and Windermere. There is no fire guard for the woodburner so please be vigilant by supervising young children at all times. Also please keep children away from open windows upstairs.
